Dear Amma.. My girlfriend’s birthday is coming up, and we plan on losing our V-cards that day. I want to make it really special for both of us. I’m looking for some real good music. I like psychedelic rock and she likes rock n roll. What would be some awesome songs to make sweet love to?

A. Ooh, musical macchhis, aren’t you?! Amma LOVES music. Heaven knows how many times Amma has had the big O because of some good music rather than quite a few useless lovers.

I guess the opening song could be Birthday Sex by Jeremih or In Da Club by 50 Cent, given the occasion. I’m not a big hip-hop fan, and neither do you seem to be, but these are fun songs you could have fun with and play around.

Or if you’re more of a romantic and hip-hop just does NOT serve your business, go for some good old Sinatra. He’s gold. The Way You Look Tonight and Strangers in the Night are pretty awesome and are bound to make her swoon into your arms.

Now coming to the genres you mentioned. Pink Floyd comes to mind, more than anything. The Great Gig in the Sky is absolutely smashing; Comfortably Numb might not suit the scene, because numbness is not what we’re after. Echoes is amazing for some slow seduction, and Wish You Were Here is lovely. Another Amma’s favourites are The Doors, Love Me Two Times, Light My Fire, Hello I Love You; I’m Horny I’m Stoned, Moonlight Drive, and maybe even throw in The End and Riders on the Storm, just for the amazing lyrics and great music.

Rock n Roll,Foxy Lady by Lord Hendrix, Whole Lotta Love by Led Zep, Be My Baby by The Ronettes, Wake Up Little Susie by The Everly Brothers, You Shook My All Night Long by AC/DC, Blue Suede Shoes and Jailhouse Rock by Elvis are great too! And for the end- Come Together by The Beatles, because this song will be dirty as hell, believe or not!

Gargi College

To the disappointment of many in and around Gargi college, the famous fruit juice is no more in the campus. But the delicious double layered “Tehelka” sandwich served in the Nescafe coffee shop saves the day for all the paneer lovers.

Miranda House

Due to the college’s strict regulations, students from other colleges can seldom enter the Miranda House premises. Nevertheless, its canteen is known for its hygiene, decent facility and why not, the croissants at Nescafe.

“I have been asking questions to people in my witness box for 21 years now, but today it is your turn. Aaj main aap ki adaalat mein aaya hun”, announced Rajat Sharma when he entered pushing back the large crowd at Kirori Mal College.

The Round Table Society at Kirori Mal College organized “Youth-o-litics” which was held on 22nd September 2014. Apart from Rajat Sharma, Chairman and Editor-in-Chief at India TV, the event also witnessed Yogendra Yadav from Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) addressing the audience of about 250 students.

To highlight the topic and theme of “Youth-o-litics”, the organizing team presented a video representation of Indian political era. The clip highlighted the evolution of politics and talked about the major incidents or events in the history of this field ranging from Rajiv Gandhi assassination and 1999’ Kargil War to the appointment of Pratibha Patil as the first women President and to the present era of Narendra Modi.

The Indian journalist and news anchor, Rajat Sharma who is popularly known for his show ‘Aap ki Adaalat’ chose to rather answer questions at the KMC seminar. He also talked about the Delhi University’s youth involvement in political matters saying, “Be it in support of Anna Hazare or to protest against Delhi gang rape, the youth of Delhi majorly from the DU have shown their power. Ram Lal Anand Evening College has been renamed Aryabhatta College.

Aryabhatta College, the new addition to the long list of DU colleges, is located between Moti Lal Nehru College and Sri Venkateshwara College, adjacent to the South Campus. College is named after the Indian mathematician who invented zero and its location indeed is that of Ram Lal Anand College which is setting a path breaking example by shifting its evening slot including the RLA (E) students and staff members into a morning one.

Prof. Harish Dhawan from the Economics department says, “It is after 5 years of constant efforts that our dream of having a separate morning college is coming true. There was a lot of discussion and paperwork involved between the college and the UGC. The morning batch has to vacate the college premises early for the evening lot while the latter, especially girls, find it inconvenient to stay in the college till late. This deprives everyone of the opportunity of actively indulging in extra-curricular activities.”

Although legally in existence already, the classes in Aryabhatta College are currently taking place from 2.30pm due to non-completion of the new building’s construction. However, with its completion in the next 3 months, classes for all courses from will shift to the morning time enabling the lot of evening students to enjoy the benefits of a morning college. Although the current 1700 students on the rolls were admitted on the basis of evening college cut-offs, the cut off list for the batch of 2015-18 remains under speculation due to this change. The college is also expecting to incorporate new courses like Mathematics and Philosophy which were not offered earlier.

“Being free of the “evening” tag is extremely relieving. It has been a long, eager and super exciting wait since the announcement”, says Rajiv Dey, a student of Economics Honours, Aryabhatta College.

With Cristina Yang’s exit from the medical saga Grey’s anatomy this summer, one of the few surviving original cast members is gone.  However, as they say that ‘the show must go on’, ABC is all set to launch the Season 11 of the series on September 25th, 2014. Here’s a list of all what might happen in the long running show this season (no spoilers, only possibilities):

1. What would I even do without you?

With Cristina’s exit and Derek’s moving out from Seattle, Meredith Grey would be seen without the two people who’ve been indispensable from her life, also the ones she has had the maximum screen time with. It’d be interesting to see how Grey survives the day without her ‘twisted sister’ and ‘the love of her life’ being around.

3
“You are my person, my hero, you make me brave. I need you alive.”

2.  Ellis and Webber’s love child

Towards the end of the last season, it was revealed that Grey has another half sister no one knows about. It would be interesting to see how the show writers justify the existence of the Chief and Ellis’s child whom no one knows about all this while. It’d also be challenging for Meredith to adjust with Margaret Pierce, the new cardiothoracic surgeon replacing Yang, knowing how she is related to her.

JERRIKA HINTON, ELLEN POMPEO, KELLY MCCREARY, KEVIN MCKIDD (DIRECTOR)

3. Who gets to get on-board at the ‘Board’?

As Yang leaves her place on Board to Alex, Chief Webber suggests Bailey for the place. What might follow in the very beginning of this season maybe a tiff between the two doctors to claim Yang’s seat on the board.

bailey
Dr. Miranda Bailey (played by Chandra Wilson) has been a fighter all through the seasons. However, this time it is against her own student.

4. The life that you save might be your own!

While Meredith has lost her person and is having issues with McDreamy’s career aspirations overshadowing her life, the ideal on-screen couple might live separate in the coming season, and as Shonda Rhimes says that, ‘It is going to be a Meredith centric season, the chances of an upcoming divorce haven’t been ruled out either.

derek
“Don’t let what he wants, eclipse what you need. He is very dreamy, but he is not the Sun, you are.”

5. The sole survivors of show’s  original ‘M.A.G.I.C’ might come closer!

As Yang leaves her place to Karev, Alex considers himself to not only be a replacement on board but to play Yang’s part in Meredith’s life who is dealing with a struggling marriage. As Meredith and Alex come closer as friends, it might crop up problems for Jo and his relationship.

ELLEN POMPEO, JUSTIN CHAMBERS
As Alex develops a sense of responsibility towards Meredith, would his love interest, Jo be able to understand their relationship?

6. Is the Oscar winning actress Geena Davis’ character the end of Calzona’s surrogate mother search?

Oscar winning actress Geena Davis has been roped up for an important regular role in the show and the first pictures released show her sharing the screen with Torres and Arizona, so maybe or may not be that, Geena plays the role of the surrogate mother, the couple has been looking for.

Even if not, it’ll be interesting to see what Shonda Rhimes has in store for such a talented actress.

136633_9760
Geena Davis won the Academy award for Best supporting actress for her movie ‘The Accidental Tourist’ in 1988.

7. Jackson-April’s marriage and baby

Jackson and April, the love birds from different cultures who are expecting a baby this season might have differences over the raising of the child. It’d be interesting to see how their relationship survives those ups and downs.

japril
The love birds from the last season had a wobbly marriage in little time after the marriage. What changes will the birth of a baby bring in?

8. Will Owen Hunt go back to the darkness?

Is Owen Hunt heading towards the darkness where he came from with pangs of anger, depression and mood swings, or is there someone who is going to make him fall in love again. If yes, who could it be?

The return of Grey’s Anatomy for Season 11 is indeed a moment of celebration for all the fans like me through out the world who’ve laughed and cried, learnt and lived, given and grown with the show.

Looking forward to a beautiful ride of emotions through out the season, and yes, miss you Cristina Yang. Cheers!

Social Cops is a recent start up as a technology data company. The base of their ideology is to provide better nation-wide information by digitalising data sourced from the grassroots in order to empower decision making.
They believe that the problems being faced by humanity would be easy to solve if the right kind of information reached the right kind of people and for that they have been extensively working in the sphere of public infrastructure, public health and education linking themselves to various NGOs all over Delhi.

However, the new aim is to expand this sphere and include almost 50 million NGOs all over the country. They hope to do so by a 6 month long fellowship programme. “The basic idea is to travel across the country interacting with various NGOs and introducing them to different kinds of technology that they can use to preserve and provide more data and to bridge the digital divide that exists between rural and urban”, said Vasundhara Garg, part of the Social Cops Marketing Team.
“Him” representing Himalayas and “Sagar” representing the Sea, they wish to bring out the essence of their fellowship – to travel across the nation – through its name, Himsagar. Everybody is welcome to apply as long as they believe that they can hold conversations, travel smart, build relationships and believe in themselves. “In India, the Census happens only once in 10 years. We envision a future wherein we can leverage non-profits around the country and power data for the Census on a real-time basis. The fellows will be instrumental in building this future.” says Varun Banka, Co-Founder of Social Cops.

The application process is simple where you need to send in an e-mail to Social Cops expressing why you want to take up this responsibility in a short video with your resume which would be followed by two short assignments and an in-person interview.

Reaching beyond the realms of television and becoming a part and parcel of anybody’s cultural and social life is something that every television producer hopes from their series but often fails to achieve. To call ‘FRIENDS’  the greatest sitcom ever made hardly provokes any criticism (considering its mass following obviously) since this series has permeated into the souls of its fans beyond expectations that we can still see its fandom in varying demographics and cultures across the world even today. What was conceived as ‘six people in their 20s who hang out together’ became one of the ‘social life revolutions for the youngsters’.

As every beginning has an end, the end of the series came out in the form of Series Finale after 10 seasons on 6th May 2004. The last episode left everybody teary eyed on bidding farewell to their favourite characters on television. This year we celebrate the twentieth anniversary of the day of first airing of a ‘FRIENDS’ epidose on NBC. To commemorate the twentieth anniversary, fans were hoping to see a much awaited ‘FRIENDS Reunion’ movie, after there were incessant rumours when Lisa Kudrow (Phoebe) talked to Jennifer Aniston (Rachel) for the same but Courtney Cox (Monica) expressed the meek possibility of its happening-A bland pill for every fan of ‘FRIENDS’ who desperately wants to know how the lives of their favourite characters have progressed after 10 years.

There was a short reunion which everyone saw on ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’ recently where Courtney, Aniston and Kudrow made guest appearances and enacted a hypothetical scene in an exact replica set of Monica’s kitchen. The small appearance surely made the audience go back to memories of watching ‘FRIENDS’ and waiting anxiously for the next episodes.

To provide a unique experience to ‘FRIENDS’ fans on this special day, the production house teamed up with Eight O’Clock Coffee to make an exact replica of Central Perk in Manhattan, the place which was frequented by the show’s characters. This pop up shop will serve free coffee to the guests beginning from 17th September. The show’s Central Perk barista Gunther-James Michael Tyler will be appearing there for photo ops and the shop will feature many contests, giveaways and musical performances reminding Phoebe’s music. So any true ‘FRIENDS’ fanatics out there-you can still book your flight to New York and enjoy the festivities over there!

Yet, all the festivities and reunions leave some striking reminiscences of our lives associated with ‘FRIENDS’. Like how after we started watching the series we associated our real life friends with the characters on the show based on their characteristics, found an ‘adda’ like ‘Central Perk’ to hang out at and share the daily stories, started clicking immediately with people who watched ‘FRIENDS’ through  endless conversations about the series, the continuous stalking of actors on social media, how we hoped to find our ‘lobsters’ some day or used some sarcastic line by Chandler in our conversations! The list goes on.

Well ‘FRIENDS’ always taught us to love and laugh and celebrate life with friends and that’s something to be cherished for a lifetime. So if you want to commemorate your favourite T.V series, grab your laptops, go to the quietest corner of your house and sink in the jubilation of watching ‘FRIENDS’ all over again! (Pssst, don’t forget to join our Central Perk Quiz at 7pm tonight!)

th April, 1983 due to the mammoth efforts of Dr. Ratnakar Pandey, the then Principal of the college, who involved Mrs. Indira Gandhi and held consecutive meetings with the UGC chairperson to achieve it. By 1986 – 87 the college had 1689 students and 10 departments – 7 honours courses and 3 post- graduate courses. Finally on 9th January, 1989 the college shifted to its new building. Since then the strength of the college has risen to more than 3000 students. _DSC6965 Getting back to the celebrations, the ambient flute music which was playing in the background nicely complemented the atmosphere in the college. One could also see the NCC cadets rehearsing continuously to ensure that the Chief Guest would get the perfect ‘Guard of Honour’. The Chief Guest was Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, the Union Minister for Skill Development, Entrepreneurship, Youth Affairs and Sports. Some of the other important guests who were invited were, Padmasree Biman Das (renowned artist and sculptor), Shri Rameshwar Teli (Member of Parliament – Lok Sabha), Sat Prakash Rana (Member of Legislative Assembly – Delhi, Ex – student of the college), V.B.N. Ram (President – Alumni Association) and Professor J. P. Khurrana (Chairman, Governing Body of the College). Around 10 am, the chief guest arrived and he was welcomed by the college’s administrative staff and a set of retired professors. He was escorted by the Students’ Union President Divya Munjal and the Secretary of the Staff Council, Mr Munish Tamang to the Principal’s room, where he was introduced to the Principal, Professor B.K. Jain. _DSC6875 Ten minutes later, the Chief Guest was escorted by the Principal to unveil the bust of freedom fighter, Pandit Motilal Nehru, after whom the college has been named. The bust was sculpted by Padmasree Biman Das on a very short notice. It reflected the sheer artistry of the living legend. The function started around half past ten with a group song which was performed by the college’s cultural society ‘Vaayu’ – ‘Swagatam Shubh Swagatam’. The Chief Guest also released the ribbon containing the Commemorative issue of 2014 which was later distributed amongst everyone in the college.  There were speeches which were delivered by Professor Munish Tamang, Professor B.K. Jain and Shri J.P. Khurrana and finally a speech by the Chief Guest. “We cannot be isolated, We need to believe in global bliss and ours is a global economy”, he said. He also brought up Narendra Modi quite a few times by saying, “Modi has taught us one thing – Parivartan ke liye kathor parishram ki zarurat hai” ( For a change, we need to struggle for the better” and “Now we have a Prime Minister of specific determination, commitment and hard work – that is Narendra Modi ji”. _DSC6984   Here is an audio of his whole speech: http://goo.gl/6xMg71 After his speech, the function officially ended.  We had the opportunity to speak to Professor Jawaharlal Jogi (retired professor) whom on being asked about the function stated, “I joined this college on day one, with Dr. N. Bhattacharya. While I was the Associate Professor of Mathematics, he was the Associate Professor for Commerce. I felt that there should have been a speech on the history of the college. Other than that the function was organised pretty well.” We also spoke to Shri Sat Prakash Rana who is a Member of the legislative Assembly and an MLNC alumnus. On being asked about the function he replied, “The function was very good. I was a former student of this college and I am very proud. It has been 25 years since I have left the college.” Image credits: Kuntal Tamang and ambaphotostudio.com]]>

When in college, does a student understand how important it is to have a good resume? And to have a good resume, one must be able to mention an attractive list of experiences and references. While part-time jobs and internships are the only things manageable with college studies, it is quite important that there exists a medium which acts as a bridge between the students and the companies.

One such intermediary is FYGW (Find Your Great Work), a startup of Mr. Amit Pandey and Mr. Bhuvan Singhal that does exactly the same, bringing the talented opportunities and startups, the talent.  Having been in the startup hiring industry for two years now, it has worked with many startups, through collaborations and partnerships, and also with many colleges like SRCC, IIT-D, DTU, delivering them the best of talents and opportunities.

FYGW.in is currently hiring Campus Ambassadors who will help them to take their initiative a step further by increasing their scope of reach. The Campus Ambassador program is being launched in Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore simultaneously. The Campus Ambassadors, as representatives, will be trained in various business and career related skills, helped to establish commercial contacts, expand professional network, work on very key corporate cases, and learning to handle issues and responsibilities. Apart from that, the Campus Ambassadors will be given challenges and opportunities where they have the freedom to organize events and activities, fix meetings and publicize new opportunities and internships, thus making leaders out of young minds.

Soon, in association with MTV and NASSCOM’s 10,000 Startups, they will be launching #Selfiethon, an ‘employer branding’ and ‘winter intern hiring’ campaign that will allow the worthy to work with top hundred startups in the country as winter interns. On the basis of the credentials, 100 candidates will be chosen and will get paid internships. For the startups, on the other hand, it is a novel chance to brand themselves in the market.
