1. Resume Madness Everyone gets in the race of updating their resume/CV from day one. The resume madness gets to you so much that each little thing makes you think “Will this benefit my resume?” 2. On the run of doing an internship We’re always eyeing placement cell mails and internship websites to see if there are any internships there for us. In fact, most of us forget the joy of sitting back and relaxing during the summer and winter breaks, instead we tire ourselves by doing internships. It is one of the most talked about topic in college as well. 3. When is the next BMS entrance? People are always asking this question from us even though we have no idea when it happens and how it happens, considering the fact that DU guidelines on BMS/BBS admissions change almost every year! 4. Which specialization to take? This question troubles us from semester 1, although we select our specialization – Marketing, HR or Finance in the Fifth semester. We keep asking our seniors about it, who themselves don’t have an idea 5. Placement? MBA? This question is always on our mind from semester 1 as well, although most of us stay confused till the end. The opinion of the majority however lies towards the placement, and MBA or any other postgraduate degree is either considered an alternative or something we’d want to pursue in the future.   Kartikeya Bhatotia [email protected]]]>

Ever wondered why Economics students always end up commenting about the economy in majority of the conversations you have with them? Why these conversations often lead to your Eco friend giving solutions to these problems as if she believed her suggestions would actually be taken into consideration by the Government? This deliberation and arguing has proved to be the genesis of a masters course in Public Policy. A masters in Public Policy is said to provide the student with extremely basic yet vital tools to tackle complex socio – economic policy decisions in the economy. Therefore it would not be wrong to say that a masters in Public Policy is an extensively specialised course which delves more into the theory and practice of making effective and efficient policy decisions. It is a course which consists of various essential elements cropped from subjects like economics, political science, finance, public health, sociology, infrastructure science and social work.

Now let’s talk about the issues and challenges that this infant course will help you understand and find solutions for –

1) The importance of the federal structure in a democratic constitutional economy like USA and India

2) The challenges in Public Health issues.

3) The importance of Public- Private Partnerships and how they can be utilized for better services to the economy.

4) Unorthodox Bill introductions and ways to gain support for the same.

5) The role of press in policy decisions.

6) The implications of indecisions.

7) The oath of service for the greater interest of the economy.

8) The role of politics in policy decisions, among others.

Now that we have understood the issues and challenges that this course will aid in addressing, let’s talk about the future prospects in the same.
People from a public policy would hardly intend to join a corporate sector. That is naturally understood. Hence, in case you wish to work for international bodies, civil society or need to get your concepts clear before you join an administrative position in the Government then this is the perfect course for you. Let’s look at this feed extensively –

1) International Bodies – International Bodies that hire graduate students in Public Policy are WHO, World Bank, IMF, UNESCO, UNDP and many more. This is because these organisations were formed to cater to the needs of economically deprived developing countries. Hence they require specialists in the field of Public Policy who can provide improved economic advice in projects conducted by these organisations. Positions available for fresh graduate students are generally of Project managers, Economic Advisors.

2) Civil Societies – NGO’s and NPO’s are often engrossed in siding with or debunking policies made by the Government. When presented to a parliamentarian, there is scope for improved deliberations over a bill. Sometimes new bills are proposed by these organisations to the Government to ensure better services to the people. These organisations often conduct programmes and need to ascertain the economic feasibility of the same. Hence graduate students in Public Policy are hired for providing the organisation with improved analytical expertise.

3) Administrative Positions – while centralised exams or elections have to be experienced by the candidate for an administrative position. It is often better for someone like that to know the issues faced by the economy and skills to tackle socio economic decisions while making administrative decisions.

Public Policy is growing in popularity and definitely for those who want their say in government decisions. It is a highly recommended course if you wish to be heard in economic decisions.

Games have turned out to be the most profitable form of business in the software technology field over the years. The specifications have improved over the years and the plot of the game simulates a pinch closer to real life day by day. In this summer heat, it turns out that staying at home is the better option. Hence to utilize your time in the most fun possible way, you should play a tonne of video games. Here are a few games, each of a different type, just so you don’t have to feel bad about not owning a certain console:

  • Dangerous Dave –

    dave

I remember playing this when I was in my 3rd grade. This game surely surpasses the fun you can ever get from games like Temple Run or Subway Surfer. Dangerous Dave demands the player to control the movements of Dave, the protagonist whose main aim is to collect as many jewels as possible. However what makes his expeditions dangerous are the traps laid down everywhere. The traps range from fire, to dragons to all sort of hurdles. This is a must play. System requirements are extremely low. Runs on MS 2002 to MS 7 operating systems. However you might have to mod it on Windows 7 to allow full screen gameplay.

  • Road Rash –

    road-rash-ss1

Road Rash has always been a life saver for kids who wanted to spend less on configuring their PC’s but wanted a similar gaming experience like an arcade console. The aim of the game is to win races. However it was seen for the first time that players could win races build up money, change their bikes and go up against ‘boss’ racers. It is till date one of the highest selling games in the world. The dearth in graphics is made up by the fantastic gameplay, this piece of art has to offer. A pre – Playstation adaptation of the Twisted Metal Series, with access to melee weapons to bring down your opponent shows how much this game was ahead of its time. System Requirements are low for this game too. It works on OS like – MS 2002 to MS 7.

  • Heavy Rain –

    heavy_rain_

One of the most successful games of 2014, Heavy Rain is a choice based thriller game, with an intense story line. You have to play as three characters, all from different walks of life trying to find a serial killer named the Origami killer. Your choices in the game determine different outcomes. The game has exceptional graphics, the plot is extreme and the gameplay is smooth. Fulfilling its expectations, heavy Rain is one of the most high selling scenario based game ever to be made. Heavy rain is available on Play station 4 and Xbox.

  • Beyond Two Souls –

    beeyond two souls

Watch Ellen Page play the protagonist in this Sci-Fi game which will surely make your video gaming experience escalate. The whole game is story based, and you have to control Jodie (Ellen Page) or a spiritual presence connected to her called Aiden. The game also features William Defoe as a scientist who looks after Jodie since her childhood. It has a tremendous storyline and will surely give you a wonderful gaming experience.  The game is available on PS3.

  • Witcher 3 –

Q. My girlfriend is a very strong and independent person. But she changes when we are intimate, she becomes inanimate and non participative. It makes me feel very odd and leaves me to do all the work. I don’t understand what happens to her. Please advice, Amma.

A. My sweet uppam, the thing about us humans is that we are all very complicated beings, we might appear to be hard and strong on the outside, but when faced with intimacy, we might turn out to be tender and sweet.

My little idli, maybe your strong girlfriend has a sweeter, more private side to herself. Most people regard being intimate as a deep emotional journey they undertake and it makes you feel even closer. But that often also means giving them time to come out of their shells and developing a comfort zone with you. The next time you decide to be warm and cozy, sit her down and talk to her heart to heart, about things she is comfortable doing and the things you both would like to do. Build a bond where you know just what works for your partner and what does not through communication.

Finally, just be honest with her and encourage her to do the same. Talk to each other, lay down some mutual rules and just have fun my idlies. Don’t think too much and let your feelings guide you, the mind will follow.
