Dear Auburn,
When I go out with my boyfriend on dates and such, I always end up wearing jeans or leggings. I tend to feel uncomfortable in skirts and shorts. Yet, I wish I could upgrade my oomph quotient without looking provocative. Please help!
-Plain Jane
Answer: Dear Plain Jane,
Don’t feel disheartened. Trust me, there are a plethora of options that you can explore! Firstly, you could upgrade your jeans by taking onto ripped denims. Or pair your jeans with crop tops and tank tops. The same goes for leggings.

Secondly, try out those long, fluid and flowing maxi dresses. They’re really chic and come in wonderful patterns and styles. They’ll fulfil your wish of being covered, while at the same time, they’ll make you look really pretty and girly.

Other than that, you could also think of adding things on and enhancing your present look with accessories and make up. Eg: Mascara, smokey eyes, red lips (as perfected by Taylor Swift) and diva like eye liner will give you a dramatic and impactful look; or a little junk jewellery will turn your lacklustre outfit into something nice and hip(pie)!

The key is to have fun and experiment. And most importantly, do so confidently.

Much love!
xoxo

This time, we decided to go a little off-campus. With our keen eye, we were quick to spot our fashion forward students, whom we asked “Which celebrity wardrobe would you like to own?” Here is what we found out:

1.“I would love to own the checkered jacket which Shahrukh Khan wore in Om Shanti Om. The jacket looks so retro and peppy to me, it’s like the perfect jacket for any occasion, plus it was worn by Shahrukh Khan, so it spices up things all the more for me.”

2.“A purposeful style-icon, Sonam Kapoor doesn’t dress to impress; she does so to make people remember her wardrobe and fashion-sense. She is so beautiful, I would love to have her wardrobe. Maybe I will end up looking as pretty as she does every time she steps out to face the world!”

3.“I want to just spend a day in Ranveer Singh’s closet. The guy wears just about anything and that ends up looking  so good on him! He has such striking clothes: from extremely bright coloured, neon shirts to daper formals, to the very current ‘Jodhpuri Trousers’ to something as simple as a Mickey Mouse tee, he can pull it all off with panache! I would just absolutely cherish his wardrobe!”

For all the believers of destiny, it wrote for each one of us, three years, that were purely dedicated for a phase called ‘young and reckless!’. This phase starts when we enter the college and ends when we finally grow up to face the realities of life! While, in these years, we tend to do what everyone would do, behave like we are the coolest alive but, wear what we really love to wear. How others would think about your style is something that you will never pay heat to. And, that is how the humans of Delhi University, created a trend of its kind – Campus Style, the young, wild and reckless Fashion that you will only find in DU and nowhere else. What you might not know is that the girls here have their own Fashion secrets. How about we leak out some to you?

  1. SHIRT IT UP!

For the usual lousy days at college, the girls at DU prefer to keep it light. No! They won’t specially go for a casual shopping spree, they will rather sneak into their guy friends’ cupboards and steal their shirts. Checkered or striped shirts with rolled up sleeves and denims make a perfect free day college look for them. They might as well feel like dressing up sometimes, but, for the rest, they are absolutely in love with their shirts! So, if you’re DU lover, we are sure you have aced this trick by now!

2. JIFFY JUNK!

With due respect to the late nights and late wake ups, these girls still know how to sizzle up their look in a jiffy! They won’t give much time to their look, but, their Junk jewellery will be up for a save. A clump of bangles on one hand, a worn leather band on the other and the most pretty looking jhumkis has always been the perfect route to styling for them. And, the main reason why they have an undying bend towards street shopping is the junk jewellery that they spot from anywhere and everywhere.

3. POUT OUT!

Being in college, makeup would be the last resort for any girl. What makes them look sinfully stunning is their ‘no-makeup’-makeup look. Irrespective of all the essentials in their bag, you will find the most poppy shades of lip colors in them undoubtedly. One hot pink shade on their lips, aviators, and they are pout ready! But, if you think it’s all about being jazzy, let us remind you they are also in love with the nudes! Afterall, that is how they define campus styling. The main make mantra for these gorgeous girls is – ‘Pout out and K.I.S.S’, Keep it simple silly!

4. HELLO ARM CANDIES!

What intrigues us the most about DU is how these DU Divas have a secret collection of Bags in their trunks! From fringed slings, to spongebob backpacks to rugged leather bucket bags, you name it and they have it. The catch though, is that they honestly follow the bag bible and know it right when to carry which bag to complete their looks. For the skater dress girly look, they have their cute slings out while for the ripped jeans attire, they will hop out of their houses with their backpacks on! Unaware of this trick? You definitely need to get out for some bag shopping!

5. I’M FEELING ‘EM SHOES!

And, when you hear ‘after diamonds, shoes are a girl’s best friend!’, it falls completely true for a DU girl. They do know their shoes well! Among the massive amount of women traveling in metro, if you spot ladies in their quirky slippers, it goes without a guess that they are from Delhi University. ‘Opt for the easy way out, but, don’t forget to nail it!’ – is what they believe. Thong sandals are their regular summer flings and for winters, ‘oo la la!’, the leather boots are out! And hey! Don’t forget how toms became popular in Delhi! All credits to DU girls and their fun cravings!

The style secrets are out ladies, get going with these fun tricks and do tell us when all eyes are on you in your college. Think you can add to this list? Download the Wooplr app and reveal some of your campus style secrets! ASAP!

‘There was intellectuality, there was art, and then there was an amalgamation of both – Fashion!’ – This phrase completely holds its essence when we walk down the DU lane and try to draw a map with a series of top colleges with their trophies to fame. Speaking of colleges, think “high cut-offs” and the first to strike you is SRCC, while colleges like St. Stephens and Hindu are hubs of creativity. But stereotypes aside, there are young ladies out there, digging into their heels, modelling through the monotony of their routine lecture schedules, and gaining recognition for their flawless Campus Fashion. The dilemma is when you have to pick the campuses with best fashion that creates a new trend in itself. In a solution to who tops this style quest, WOOPLR brings you 3 Fashionable Campuses of DU to watch out for :

1. LADY SHRI RAM COLLEGE

Whether a bookworm, a street play society member, or a fashion freak, what’s common among each one of them is their prodigious wardrobe. Either the girls in LSR never fall short of clothes, or they play it really smart mix-matching their outfits to create new looks everyday. Contemporary and high-street fashion is their staple and following Trend-cycles like a mantra gives them a periodical makeover. What we love most about this college is it’s summer-ready trend. Step into the campus and you will find a wide range of colors and versatility to die for. With girls in their culottes and shirts, long skirts and jackets, and unusual accessories, this campus is polka dotted with on-the-rise Trend Setters.

  1.  KAMLA NEHRU COLLEGE

Before you enter any campus, it is only natural to properly scan the crowd, be it your own college or others. And while there’s all the good and bad in every college, Kamla Nehru College comes with its unique catchphrase – ‘KNC ki Ladkiaa!’. There is no question why this phrase is used so commonly in DU, because here a girl may begin as a school pass out, but she will graduate as an upcoming show stopper! Mind you, it’s not a recent story that this college is known for its crowd; it is a shout-out earned over the years in lieu of the growing knowledge of fashion in the college. With all the cream crowd in its Fashion Society, there are some awe-inspiring fashion influencers in KNC. The highlight though, is how these girls can rock their denims so well. Not only is this offhand avatar so popular, we were astonished with the variety of prints we saw in college. From aztec to tribal, flirty florals to ‘70s suede, you are sure to get high on fashion here!

  1. IP COLLEGE FOR WOMEN

If you’re hunting for raw street fashion, you are calling out for the girls at Indraprastha. Being one of the top colleges of DU for journalism, it isn’t surprising at all that they have a fetish for the rugged look. Well, most of the time. Here, the know-how of Fashion is probably the highest and girls prefer being smart with their styling rather than just letting it go. They’re more about the vibe than the tribe, more risk-takers than followers, for they believe in creating their own brand for others to aspire to learn from. While 4 in 10 will be in their kurtas and bindis, there are some who you would want to chase for their ‘drop-dead’ gorgeousness. They are all dolled up in their tiny skater dresses purchased from places that remain the best kept secrets. The girls here seem to be in their own shells with a ‘never-say-die’ attitude, but when they are on the stage, get ready for some fireworks. Flaunting fashion may not be their cup of tea, but they’re brilliant at doing what they want and making it look good too. Being simple, yet sizzling is surely the stride of these divas!

Shri Ram College of Commerce: The Holy Grail of every commerce student in India. Known for its sky-high cut-offs, academic rigour and spectacular placements, SRCC also, it seems, has some very fashion conscious students. In fact, the students not only have staunch fashion opinions about their own attire, but also have certain very high fashion standards for their partners! Here are some of the answers The Auburn Umbrella received:

In search for new fashionistas, the DU beat fashion police patrolled the beautiful lanes of Lodhi Road and found some young people in Dyal Singh College (Morning) experimenting with their looks. So without further adieu, here are the ones who the DU Beat police caught up to chat about their distinct style:

Rupinder Singh
I am wearing formal clothes for my placement interview today. My shirt is from Tommy Hilfiger, trousers from UCB, shoes from Zara and watch from Bursberry. I like tattoos and have one myself. My tattoo is a Maori Art and its each element defines my personality and dreams. For me fashion is about wearing stuff which makes you feel comfortable and confident. – Rupinder Singh, B.A. English (Hons.), 3rd year.
I bought my kurta from Snapdeal and my footwear is from Sarojini Nagar. I love wearing ethnic clothes. I feel that they are the most comfortable and personify ‘beauty in simplicity’. In my opinion style is nothing but an extension of one’s personality. - Bhavya Bisht, Maths Honors, 3rd year.

My Avengers t-shirt is from Myntra, trousers from Cantabil and shoes from Woodland. I’m a superhero fanatic and it reflects in my style. Batman for me is the most stylish superhero ever. And Christian Bale as Batman was just perfect; portraying the reckless, charming, billionaire playboy with impeccable style in day and Gotham’s dark guardian at night. - Abhinav Sharma, B.Com (Hons.), 2nd year.

My top is from Janpath and jeans from Flying Machine. My shoes are from Sketchers. I always tend to wear light, natural and breathable fabric clothes to beat this scorching summer heat. According to me the worst fashion trend is to wear layers of make-up in this hot weather. The make-up clogs the skin pores, resulting in skin problems. A generous application of sunscreen and sunglasses and I am good to go for the day. - Raavi Joshi, B.A. English (Hons.), 2nd year.

My t-shirt is from a thrift shop and my trouser is from US Polo. My footwear is from Punjab and is called ‘Jalsa Jutti’. I believe is wearing the things that look good on me rather than blindly following the trend. The worst fashion trend is of guys wearing really low waist jeans and trousers. - Manveet Singh, B.A. Pol. Science (Hons.), 2nd year.

My top is from Zara and ripped jeans from Vero Moda. For me fashion is not about being perfect, it is about experimenting and finding the best for oneself. I love the messy hair look. Even side braids, french braids, buns, look amazing. I think that wearing leggings with dresses should be banned as they ruin the perfectly lovely dresses. - Sanya Arora, B.Com (Program), 2nd year.
