Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, is a must-watch for any movie fanatic, Potterhead or not. Its fitting score and enveloping camerawork draws the audience in, and keeps them there on the edge of their seat with a cohesive plot. The cast is directly reflective of the characters’ personalities, a feat for which the Harry Potter movies are well-known. Eddie Redmayne plays Newt Scamander, a British wizard who wishes to educate the wizarding world about thousands of magical creatures and their properties. He has kind eyes and a concerned demeanour while he searches for his escaped beasts. His caring and selfless nature is reflective of Hagrid’s, a similarity which Potterheads cannot overlook. Characters such as Tina and Queenie Goldstein, Jacob Krakowski, and Credence, are surprisingly fleshed out, giving the audience a chance to connect to them and appreciate their humanity. On the other hand, Mr Graves provides an antagonistic character, moving the plot forward with his less-than-noble actions. Most of all, the magic is unforgettable. The movie starts off with Hedwig’s theme, bringing with it a sense of familiarity and of home. The creatures are full of personality, each having their own charm. Their brilliant colours and extraordinary size, coupled with their names and their habitats, are reminiscent of the inherent magic of Hogwarts. It is impossible to not feel at home with the protagonists, especially for Potterheads. But even if you are not an avid Harry Potter fan, you will enjoy the movie for its thrill and its characters, and perhaps be sucked into the Potter universe at last. A must-watch of the winter season, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is a stunning flashback into the wizarding world we all love, and a brilliant adaptation of a book that is essentially a manual rather than a novel. Released on 31st July 2016, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is already the UK’s fastest selling book of the decade. The book picks up right where the epilogue of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows ended: at platform 9 ¾, with Albus Severus Potter worrying about being sorted into Slytherin. The familiarity of the words is overwhelming – a theme that resonates throughout the book. It does not feel like nine years have passed since the penultimate HP book was released, and the nostalgia that comes with this realization is both enthralling and plaintive. Right off the bat, the language and dialogue are strikingly appropriate and allow the characters to stay true to themselves, which gives credibility to both the characters and the book. The Golden Trio are exactly as we remember them – brave, hilarious, and setting unattainable friendship goals since 1991. While many may describe the HP series as one of good over evil, to me it has always been a tale of friendship. In that sense, the Cursed Child continues that trend and highlights an unlikely but extraordinary friendship between the two protagonists – Albus Potter and Scorpius Malfoy. On the other hand, the actual plot promises more than it delivers, and is unfortunately a letdown. The storyline turned out to be redundant and while there was definite potential for a more wholesome story, the plot in itself was underdeveloped. The primary twist was a welcome relief and added not only purpose but also pace and intrigue to an otherwise stagnant setup. This may be simply because the Cursed Child is not a novel. It is the script of a play, and while it may read like an oversimplified text, I do believe that the play would be an entirely different and more rewarding experience. According to Bob Newhart, “The only way to survive is to have a sense of humour.” In fact, humour is your best bet, your most potent weapon, against the mortal struggle for existence called ‘Life’. A sense of humour, a little frivolity and some light-hearted levity can turn a bad day into a funny memory; or a happy day into something even more worth-while.
Though most people are of the opinion that a sense of humour cannot be cultivated, it is innate and self-evident, we all do unanimously agree, that humour is impartial in disseminating joy and happiness. One may not be able to create humour like Oscar Wilde or Mark Twain, but one certainly can enjoy it as an eager audience.
With that very thought in mind, we bring to you humour in its purest form- literature. We recommend to you 5 humourous books that will lighten up your dreary winters and have you grinning ear to ear with every word, sentence and chapter.
A. Karl AajAurKal- Cyrus Broacha
Funny man Cyrus Broacha offers you ‘tongue-in-cheek’ at its penultimate. Trust Mr. Broacha to mock a near-extinct community and get away with it. We won’t divulge many details of the plot, because honestly, the plot is a little slim. But the book is brimming with puns, irony and satire. A very mainstream read, but enthralling and funny at the same time.
CAUTION: Avoid if you’re sensitive and can’t tolerate jibes at the Parsis. Also, pick this if you’re in the mood for something light.
B.Right Ho, Jeeves- P.G Wodehouse
The master of British humour, P.G Wodehouse, brings to you humour in all its brilliance through this book from the ‘Jeeves’ collection. This particular book features the funniest Wooster-Jeeves adventure ever told. With a nice little love story at its centre, the story starts off with Wodehousian simplicity. But a few chapters into the book, and the complexity of the plot thickens, making for a gripping and entertaining read.
CAUTION: Make sure you read the book in seclusion. Otherwise, you’ll have people thinking you’ve gone cuckoo as you cackle away with every turn of the page. `Yes, it’s that hilarious!
C.The Zoya Factor- Anuja Chauhan
What’s nice about this book is that the author doesn’t try to be funny. The story, in itself, is very straight-forward. But the circumstances, characters and climax make the book amazingly hilarious. Add to that, Anuja Chauhan’s effortless style of story-telling makes the narration humourous and enjoyable. This book has the right ingredients for an Indian best-seller: charming protagonists, romance and drama. There is a theme of cricket too, that runs in the background. What more could the average Indian want?
CAUTION: Don’t mistake the book for a typical ‘chick-lit’ variety. It’s a book to be enjoyed by all. Try reading this book before Bollywood comes out with a sappy adaptation. The book will definitely have you in chucklesand tears of joy; the movie might (as per rather discouraging trends) give you tears of another kind.
D. Three Men in a Boat- Jerome K Jerome
This book is an amusing account of three friends-Jerome,Harris and George and of course, their dog Montmorency; while on a little boating expedition. The men take the trip to escape their humdrum city life and what follows is a mad adventure, dripping with the classic European style of humour, sarcasm and wit.
CAUTION: Requires patience and a dictionary, since it is a classic English literary novel. A little slow in parts, for the same reason. But it’s definitely worth the effort.
E. Mrs. Funnybones- Twinkle Khanna
Defying all myth, Twinkle Khanna is not your quintessential star wife. Her crafty penmanship reflects who she is as a person- intelligent, strong-willed, witty and wry. Not one to mince her words, Khanna’s sarcastic take on her world is like a breath of laughing gas. She has you in splits with her stories about her husband (‘the man of the house’), the prodigal son, the baby, the whacky mother and mother-in law. Fun times with Twinkle are guaranteed if you pick this one up!
CAUTION: Dive into the book without any pre-conceived notions, sans of any judgement or biases and you will be handsomely rewarded by the end of it.

What might not seem very impressive and little generic at first, will definitely surprise you once your table starts piling up with mouth-watering delights. Situated right in the heart of Satya Niketan, 2 Bandits certainly lives up to the standards set by the cafés and food joints around.
The ambience is fairly suitable for any meal of the day, the interiors of the place being carefully defined. Along with offering some exceptional specials, it is also a paradise for all hookah-lovers. Double-Apple, Mint, Orange, you name it, they have it! The food menu was very comprehensive, having indigenous Vada- Paavs and Bruschettas in the list. It also managed to have a vibrant non-vegetarian food list which certainly tasted as exotic as it sounded.
The Chicken Steak Sizzler was one of the most served and enjoyed dishes the place had to offer. The mashed filling between chicken breast was exceptionally different from the regular chicken sizzlers our taste-buds are used to. Potato wedges with the chicken proved to be a splendid side dish. A must-try for vegetarians is The Arabian Night-Veg which is a divine vegetarian paneer wrap served with Garlic Mayo. Veg and Chicken Panini were also favourites.
The café also has a very attractive shakes and mocktail menu. The Lamberjack, a chocolate brownie tasted as fancy as it sounds, served in chemistry lab beakers. The mild taste of Apple with a tinge of Mint and Lemon enabled the Apple Soaked Mojito to make a place in the special recommendations. The evergreen iced tea served in an unconventional funnel-shaped flask tasted as good as it should have.
With all the unusual appetizers the place has to offer, it also carries the basic pasta, burger and pizza menu beginning from as low as 95 rupees. One of the highlights of the café was the tree trunk standing right at the entrance with paper leaves hanging from it boughs, carrying hundreds of memories and messages. With its overall charisma and ambience (not to forget, the affordability for the young crowd out there), this place is certainly worth a visit.

After months of hide and seek, WhatsApp has finally made its voice calling facility open to all. Though available for the past two months, the feature was purposely hidden and could be unlocked only by receiving a call from an existing WhatsApp Calluser. So began a cycle of seeking and pleading from WhatsApp friends and foes to help make free calls but now, in its latest update for Android, WhatsApp has made this much-awaited feature available to all.
Though the update should reflect in the Play Store (version 2.12.19+), you may download it manually through WhatsApp’s official website. However, only the Android version officially supports voice calling as of now.
Is WhatsApp calling good enough? Let’s analyse the change:
Free calling over the internet is not special anymore. Viber, Skype and even Facebook Messenger already support this feature. Calling from WhatsApp is much efficient, simply because of the number of Indians who’ve adopted WhatsApp gradually.
The new update is visibly different as the layout has slightly changed. There are three tabs on the main screen, namely Calls, Chats and Contacts. A popup with a call button now appears when you tap on your contact’s display picture on the main screen. Also, a call button is placed on the title bar of each contact’s chat window next to their name. Once you call someone, the calling screen appears along with speaker and mute options.
Limitations:
Firstly, the current version has a few bugs, hence you may experience call drops, hang-ups or freezes. Not a big deal, as future updates would solve these issues.
Secondly, the placement of the call button in the chat window is a little annoying. It gets pressed while checking someone’s status! Though it may seem petty, it is seriously a nuisance. Even if you hang-up in a split second, the receiver will get notified.
Verdict
Though still rough around the edges,WhatsApp calling is a great step towards making the best instant messenger even better!
iOS Users
Though WhatsApp calling should soon be launched for iOS as well, the impatient ones may try this: hithttps://dev2.whatsapp.net/ios/WhatsApp/ and install WhatsApp Beta. Ask any Android user to call you on WhatsApp (talk for atleast 10 seconds). You can now enjoy WhatsApp calling on your iPhone!

A new addition to the comprehensive list of restaurants in Hudson Lane, Sparrows Cafe was opened in the mid of March 2015. Sparrows is an initiative for a natural cause and hence, the team would be putting up wooden houses for sparrows with the help of some student volunteers.
Ambiance: Decorated with cut-outs of the sparrow birds and squirrels sitting on the branches, this place provides a great ambiance to have food. Apart from colourful interiors, Sparrows also has western and Bollywood music playing in the background, for visitors to enjoy food.

Menu and Food: For vegetarians, the menu is wide enough. Achari Cottage Cheese Shastik and Grilled Cottage Cheese Burger are some of the dishes that you may try. Although the drinks might disappoint you a bit, Munchino- the cold coffee and Basil Lemonade would complement your meal well.
The non-vegetarian dishes at Sparrows have a wide variety. There are appetizers like Chicken Wasabi with Wasabi Dip and though some might find a tinge of mustard oil in the taste, the chef confirmed that it wasn’t used in the making. The Chicken Tikka Pizza might look less in quantity but it makes an overall satisfying dish. The chart toppers would be the Chicken BBQ Sandwich which is served as a heavy portion and is saucy in taste and the Chicken Pasta in white sauce which could easily suffice for two. The latter is served with garlic bread and tamarind chutney on the side which is definitely a change from the way your regular white sauce pasta is served.
Service: The staff here is polite and the order takes a very few patient moments to find its way to your table. Hygienic is also taken good care of at Sparrows by the cooking and serving staff.
Value for money: The quantity of food served is plentiful for you to return satisfied. For two people to dine in, the budget would be around Rs. 750 (including drinks).

After ‘poking’, ‘tweeting’ and ‘pinging’ – it’s time to start ‘Yupping’! With modern day conversations becoming shorter and quicker, it makes sense to send crisp messages with one click. That’s what Yup does – you can send stock or custom messages to your friends with just a tap! The stock messages are questions like ‘Miss me?’,’Love Me?’, etc most of which can be answered with the word – ‘Yup!’ (hence the name we guess)
You can create a new account or login through Facebook, though logging in through Google is missing. Once registered you can add friends, invite other people and begin to ‘Yup’. Based on the successful app ‘YO!” it features a similar the UI – an interactive tile based layout (like a Windows phone) which displays all your contacts and services in a vertical pane. However, once you start adding more & more friends it may feel a bit messy, as everything is clubbed together. Also, to add a new contact, you must know its username, in other words name or number won’t be sufficient.
But messaging is just one part of Yup, it features a host of other features. To bring everything under one roof, the app allows you to put various services in the form of tiles. You can have news, email, Facebook, weather, etc all one the main app screen You can also subscribe to a bunch of other services like movie reviews, gadget reviews, Bollywood news, jokes, and much more! You can even put tiles linking to other apps like Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, YouTube, etc. which will open from Yup itself. Another pretty useful feature is the SOS button on the top right corner, that shares your location with your friends in the times of need.

A fairly recent eating joint at the much sought after Hudson Lane in North Campus is ‘Mood Swingers’. The café can be easily located as you enter the lane from Patel Chest, situated right adjacent to the NDPL office.
The name ‘Mood Swingers’ doesn’t convey the story behind this idea but you would be surprised (or not) to find that the real reason behind the name are the chairs, which are hung up as swings. You would definitely be delighted by the décor of the place which is highlighted through bright colors, red sofas, Bollywood movie posters and film strips on the walls.
The food is not very different from that of all the other cafés that Hudson Lane offers; the menu consists of the same old burgers, pastas and pizzas as the main attraction. In a hub like Hudson Lane, where new cafés are always a charming addition, Mood Swingers does live up to the charm.

The quantity of the food is plentiful and fills you up quite well by the time you are done with your meal. The quality of the food also lives up to your expectations, most of the time. The chicken burgers, especially, the Chicken Texas Rodeo Burger have a soft patty while the slightly different additions to the menu like the Chicken Espetada and the Falafel Platter also complement their fancy names. For vegetarians, too, there isn’t less of a choice and the health freaks will find salads as a refreshing delight.
Something that might disappoint you is the beverage and drinks’ menu. The shakes are extremely mediocre and even something as simple as a Green Tea feels odd. However, Mood Swingers gets the benefit of our doubt on account of being a new setup and we recommend it for some of its deliciously cooked dishes, and for assembling these dishes in a pocket – friendly budget.

With over 700 million activated accounts, WhatsApp is undoubtedly the king of mobile social messengers. Not only is it extremely popular, but this Facebook owned application is one of the best when it comes to efficiency and ease of use. Though pretty much perfect, I bet we have all been jonesing to use it on our computers!, Iit’s quite understandable – a much bigger screen, a physical keyboard, multi-tasking abilities; it’s dreamlike. And guess what? With it’s latest update WhatsApp actually did it! With WhatsApp Web you can access all your chats, media & contacts at the comfort of your browser. What? Where? How? – we’ll tell ya!
Now the concept of using WhatsApp on a computer is not novel. There are tons of softwares, browser extensions and app-emulators which allow you to do the same. But WhatsApp Web is simply more convenient and efficient. A point to remember though – it’s NOT a WhatsApp alternative, you must have WhatsApp installed on your phone! Basically, WhatsApp Web is an extension of your existing WhatsApp messenger. It allows you to send messages (text & voice) and media (images & videos) just like the mobile app.
There’s no setup or installation. Simply open WhatsApp (latest version) on your phone, tap the menu button (top right) and select WhatsApp Web, a QR code scanner will appear, post an instructional pop-up message. Next, head to web.whatsapp.com on your computer (using Chrome browser) and scan the QR code on the left. Done! Your browser will now mirror your phone’s WhatsApp application allowing you to use all the functionality with much ease!
The feature however, comes with it’s own limitations. Firstly, it can only be used with Google Chrome, which shouldn’t pinch, considering almost everyone has it installed (right?). Secondly, though it can be used from Chrome on most operating systems – Windows, Android, Mac (OS X); it can’t be accessed on iOS. But the biggest limitation is its dependability on your phone’s WhatsApp. Since it’s a mirror interface, the messages are basically sent & received by your phone therefore, both your phone and your computer must to be connected to the internet. Also, for esential features like changing status & display picture, creating & leaving groups and blocking contacts, you will have to use the mobile application.
Despite its shortcomings, WhatsApp Web completely changes the way we use WhatsApp – trust me, typing on a full-fledged keyboard feels divine! Moreover it is an excellent way to share media with your peers. Say you want to share pictures from your camera among your friends on WhatsApp. Instead of transferring them to your computer and then on your phone, you can simply send them from the PC itself!
WhatsApp Web is a revolutionary enhancement which every WhatsApp user is sure to like. Though far from perfect, it’s definitely a great first step towards its integration with our different devices.
After watching the latest collaboration of the famous duo Raj Kumar Hirani and Aamir Khan, three words came to my mind, ‘Oh My God!’. No, I am not expressing my excitement about the movie; I am talking about the Paresh Rawal and Akshay Kumar starrer film. There was a lot common in between these two movies. Yes the story line and the presentation were very different but the concept was exactly the same: Who is god?
The story is about an alien from an identical ‘gola’ as earth whose spaceship drops him in Rajasthan for unknown reasons and there he loses a remote control which is the only mean of communication back to his planet. In a mission to find this remote, we follow the protagonist (PK: not his original name) on a journey where he tries to understand the human behavior and the rules and norms that operates in this society. Through series of events, PK raises some serious questions related to religion and faith and how we are divided and discriminated on the basis of religious conviction. Enter Jaggu (Anushka Sharma) who successfully leads PK on a journey where not only he becomes a TV celebrity but also gets his remote back from ‘not-so-legit’ baba (Saurabh Shukla).
The movie raises a very serious issue about how we put all our faith on clay made murtis and rather than solving the problems ourselves, we wait for some miracle by god. Yes it is true that in this world of suffering and hardships, putting our trust on a superhuman does give us sense of relief but is it the only solution to our all problems? We are divided by our religion and who we worship, Yes! But aren’t we all the same in the end? The film answers this question with honesty and simplicity.
The first half is brilliant with some funny gags here and there which surely brought the house down. Aamir Khan is an acting ninja and this is safely one of his best performances yet. Saurabh Shukla played the role of antagonist perfectly. Anushka Sharma made her mark in this movie with her exceptional acting skills even after sharing the screen with Aamir Khan. Raju Hirani uses Indo-Pak relations, a bomb blast and media to strengthen the story line.
I admit that I walked into the theater with a lot of expectations after reading impressive tweets and Facebook posts but all in all I wasn’t satisfied in the end because of the sterling resume of Raju Hirani and Aamir Khan. This movie definitely didn’t meet the bar.
Final Verdict: If you are walking into the theater to watch a genius movie like 3 idiots or Munna Bhai, well get ready to be disappointed because this one is not even close . But it is definitely a treat for all Aamir Khan Fans.
