As placement season strikes the university, the want for being appropriately dressed during the interview becomes a vital necessity. First impressions are indeed instant and play a major role in dictating the final outcome. Here are few styles that might solve the problems of deciding the perfect interview outfit for students.

Girls

  • Following the conventional and boring trend during dressing up for interviews is perhaps the safest one. It helps in reiterating your seriousness for the job role offered. Avoiding experiments and playing the safe game can never go wrong! The traditional business suits, consisting of solid or subtle patterned collared shirts of light colors paired with dark shaded formal pants gives a typical formal look. However, the shirt should be buttoned and it should be tucked in or fall just below the waistline. Formal Blazer or jacket adds a classic and professional edge to the outfit.

  • Closely fitted ‘versatile’ pencil skirt, paired up with a tucked in formal blouse or a buttoned down light colored collared shirt prove to be the most classic work wear.  You can always play safe by keeping a combination of white shirt and black skirt, but trying pastel or neutral shades of shirts can prove to be quite reliable for serious business as well. Kitten heels or office ballet flats of coordinating colors complete the impeccable professional look.

  • A conventional dress suit is perfect for giving a chic and sophisticated look. Opting for a formal blazer helps solve the problem of being underdressed. Avoiding sleeveless, short dresses and plunging necklines is a must while creating a good first impression for the interviewer. Mid heels or ballet flats always creates the much-required impact. Avoid flashy accessories under all circumstances.

Boys

  • For boys, opting for the traditional business attire helps in enhancing the business credentials. Matched conservative suits, consisting of white shirts, solid black, navy blue or grey colored formal jacket or vest, traditional patterned and medium width tie with a belt of coordinating color. Black laced up leather shoes and a formal watch adds an impressive touch to the attire.

  • Another way of dressing for a placement is opting for a collared shirt, preferably white, under a V-neck or crested sweater. The Sweater may be of a dark grey, navy blue, brown and black shade and should be worn with slim fit trouser of a coordinating shade. Again, formal laced up business shoes helps complete the desired look.

One of the top ranked medical institutions of the country, Maulana Azad Medical College (abbreviated and often referred to as MAMC) straddles the historic old city of Delhi and has been in its full glory since its establishment in 1959. It is named after the great patriot and the first education minister of our country Maulana Abul Kalam Azad and ranks second after AIIMS, Delhi in producing doctors, specialists and super specialists.
The campus through its ‘M’ gate has a welcoming essence to it. The first time one walks through it, an overwhelming feeling is there with all the students rushing to their classes and canteens adorned in white coats with a stethoscope around their neck. This is a college of nerds with glass-rimmed spectacles, buried in their books as if they were their muse. Unlike what most other medical colleges are reputed to be, MAMC stands different, as neither the teachers nor the seniors are hostile towards the students.
Even the professors, who are usually perceived to be strict and grumpy, are actually pretty nice and student friendly. Lectures start at 8 in the morning with no delay.  With the beginning of first year, also comes the first experience of Dissection Hall. The room has an eerie feeling associated with cadavers lying by your side and a scalpel held between your fingers. But as you go through your first year, eating and sleeping with human bones becomes a daily routine. You learn a hell a lot but only if you want to. No one forces you. After all it’s college!
Sadly for most, attendance is a big issue here. 75% is mandatory but if you are a hosteller, chances are you won’t miss lectures because the centrally airconditioned lecture theatres act as a big incentive for the nap lovers.
Ultimately, what we all come here for: the hospitals. MAMC has 5 hospitals associated with it- the major ones being Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital (LNJP or LNH), Govind Ballabh Pant Hospital (GB PANT) and Guru Nanak Eye Centre. Maulana Azad Institute of Dental Sciences (MAIDS) is the dental college with its separate hospital for the BDS and MDS aspiring students.
It is not just the merit of 250 students of a batch that puts MAMC where it is, but also the way curriculum is designed to ensure that students don’t deviate from their path. Weekly/ monthly topic finishing tests, stage exams, tutorials, semester exams, sent-ups become frustrating and rather boring. You eventually start to gulp down the fact that those school days of 90% are long gone and even fifty percent starts seeming to be a great deal. But this is all for the students to keep a steady pace with the syllabus that actually does run at the speed of light. Because at the end, when Annual Professional Examinations strike, you no longer function like a normal human.
MAMC with it’s new student constitution has different societies each for: drama Mrichkatakum for drama, Prodigy for dance, Confluence for music, Pravachya for Literature, Fine Arts and lastly Fashion or ‘Fash’. Adjacently placed is the play ground where boys are seen playing cricket and football during evening hours. Cricket lovers have MPL (Maulana Azad Premier league), where players are auctioned and sold and ultimately 8 teams of MAMC play against each other. Badminton and basketball have their own courts both in the OBH and OGH.
MAMC is neither short of stress nor stress- buster activities. The annual fest Synapse is not as great as what it used to be once upon a time. But it’s still a great experience in organizing and participating in the fest. If you are someone with the knack of doing something out of the box, you’ll have to take the initiative. Finding people here to support you is actually not that easy since most students have their heads buried in their textbooks.  After 3rd year, even majority of the seniors refrain from co-curricular activities or atleast cut their leisure time for the sake of PG entrance. Still, creativity is always welcomed.
The college has many canteens that serve decent to good food. All of them have their specialties and sucky dishes and your taste buds figure them all out eventually. There are not too many lush gardens and grounds, only a few small cozy parks that turn a bit too cozy when the darkness strikes. If you know what I mean. Maulanaians often pride themselves with the prime location of their college. Be it the book fairs or auto expos at Pragati Maidan, or the sumptuous streets of Connaught Place, or even the monument of India Gate, nothing is more than a ten minute auto ride away from the college. The gates of the college open directly into the famous Khooni Darwaza, and the dream-come-true of all the cricket fans- The Feroz Shah Kotla stadium.

Dear Mr. Modi,

I had been lounging at my master’s feet while he read the newspaper this morning when I heard him softly chuckle to himself and mention the word ‘cleanse.’ My ears shot up in anticipation and I wagged my tail at the thought of the word ‘clean.’ A dog likes clean surroundings too, you see. All that garbage I see lying on the road when I’m taken for a walk, makes me want to throw up my chicken and bones. I like to sniff the clean breeze and feel rejuvenated every once in a while, except the pollution does not permit me this simple luxury.

You can imagine my distress when my master explained to his daughter that the ‘pollution’ that you and the RSS, working together, wanted to cleanse India of, is western culture. My tail settled back down with a thump and I shut my eyes, listening to the conversation with a weariness. School curricula, art and cinema, science and technology and libraries must be cleansed of western influence. Oh, heavy heart! What if everybody begins to speak in Sanskrit, now? I’m quite the western dog, you know, English is the only language I understand. Will the little baby of the house not be able to study American and European and Russian history? It could possibly make her a little less Indian. Ban that Leonardo da Vinci’s paintings from every household and public space. Listen to his name, so un-Indian! And what about that other Leonardo? Di Caprio, was it? He’s quite a good looker that man. My tail droops at the thought of not being able to watch his movies. All this is too much for me to digest.

Somebody must knock some sense into these human beings. How will you communicate with each other and with us dogs without a common language, may I ask? And, what is that sation you keep talking about? Globalisation, yes. The world is one place. Sharper divisions along boundaries and repeated assertions of national identity can only prove harmful to integration with the larger world out there. I have learnt to coexist with that St.Bernard across the road. We even nod at each other occasionally. Why cannot humans live with other cultures apart from their own? We are a global community. As we constantly interact with each other across the globe, parts of different cultures are bound to quietly seep into our own, and this is something to be proud of. For instance, the German Shepherd in the neighbour’s house has taught me how to rid myself of ticks and flees. Quite useful, I thought. Whatever happened to other, more important words like global warming, poverty and inflation? I always assumed they were weightier words than ‘western culture.’

Besides, culture is a social construct. It isn’t something that is unnaturally imposed on society. Rather, it develops gradually, resulting from the historical and socio-economic processes that the country is subject to. You cannot forcefully straighten a dog’s tail, can you?

Sincerely,

Your neighbourhood dog.

If ten years down the line someone asked me about the things I missed from my days spent in Delhi University, one of my answers would include election season! But, before you think that I’m a super active political party supporter or contesting candidate, let me tell you that I’m just a regular college student. Except voting, I’m not involved in any kind of political activity.

Here are some of the good, bad and weird things that happen and people you meet during the DUSU elections, from the perspective of a normal college student!

The white walkers

No, I’m not talking about the Game of Thrones. But beware of them if you are running late for your lectures as once caught, they would only let you leave when you would’ve heard their whole manifesto and memorised their party’s ballot numbers with their candidates’ name echoing in your head for a very long time.

The shouting drones

Well, these can give you a headache! They are posted everywhere- inside the metro station, near escalators, stairs and the road leading to your college, college gate. In short, they flank the road till you get inside the college building. They are from different parties, so as soon as they spot a person, their shouting competition begins. You cannot avoid them but, you can avoid the headache. Just plug in headphones and walk.

The class disruptors

These are my favourites but, only during super boring or miserable lectures. They ask the professors for ‘just two minutes’ and barge in. Sometimes, the professor may start scolding them which is pretty entertaining to watch.

You can’t avoid them but you can always be entertained by them. Use this precious disruption for a quick selfie, texting, Facebook update, Snapchat or just a power nap session!

There are other things in store for every student during the DUSU elections- walking on a carpet of pamphlets, getting freebies to ‘vote and support’ candidates even as they talk about honesty in their agendas and a lot of annoying text messages and phone calls too. The election shindig is indeed an amusing, albeit annoying, time in DU!

Mumbai, India’s financial capital recently banned the slaughter and sale of meat for four days, starting this Thursday, following a demand from the strictly vegetarian Jain community. This sparked an outrage among the meat-eaters already upset by a permanent beef ban imposed this year. Ever since this news broke out, people have taken to social media websites to display their outrage.

Having moved to Mumbai just four months back from Delhi to study at Xavier Institute of Communications, this news has brought a large amount of disappointment for me and many others like me. While adjusting to the food habits of a new city was difficult enough, it has been made unbearable by this temporary meat ban taking away food joints like ‘Bademiyaan’ or ‘Delhi Darbaar’ that proved to be saviours in several homesick situations.

India is a land of diverse cultures and religions and I respect every religious community. However the question is, by what means can the government or the civic body dictate people’s eating habits? After all, it’s a particular individual’s prerogative to decide what they should or shouldn’t eat. There are approximately 39 religious communities in India and if things continue this way one can expect some sort of a ban every day of the year. Anarchy has become a part of the Indian democracy; anyone with ‘religious sentiments’ can impose his/her thoughts on the people of this country.

Being a Delhiite and Punjabi at heart I don’t go around imposing meat on anyone, so why should anyone be given the right to decide what I consume for breakfast, lunch or dinner? Important question here is are eating habits more important than issues like water crisis, traffic congestion, and rodent menace among others that Mumbaikars have to face on a daily basis?

Who says one needs a degree to teach or a non-governmental organisation (NGO) to help? The students of Delhi University’s Kirori Mal College didn’t require any labels or fanfare to fulfill their powerful vision of creating a difference in the society. With only a sincere heart and a burning desire to help, their successful initiative lead to the formation of the society, Sahyog. Staying true to its name, it involves a group of student volunteers who work together with full dedication and cooperation to empower the future of  underprivileged children in Delhi.

Sahyog was founded in 2013 by Aditya who encouraged everyone to work towards the betterment of the conditions of these children as much as they could. What started as a group of only five to six members has now emerged as a forum of a total of thirty six volunteers. Their main aim is to provide less-fortunate children with free education in all essential subjects, training in co-curricular activities such as dance, drama, art and athletics and lessons in all moral values of life.

These students regularly visit the backward areas around their college in search of disadvantaged children or the ones seen doing labour and motivate their families to send them for their classes. As of now, they have more than fifty children who come to their college from neighboring areas such as Chandrawal Gaon, Kamla Nagar and Guru Teg Bahadur Nagar.

Ritesh Yadav, one of the members of Sahyog, said, “It gives us great happiness in seeing the children enjoy themselves in our classes. These children are always enthusiastic about learning something new every day. Sometimes, they would get so excited that they would arrive hours before the scheduled time, especially for the dance and drama classes.”

The members of Sahyog teach these children for two hours daily and most of the time, hold their classes in the basketball court due to lack of available places. They source all the required materials such as books and stationeries themselves, but are also provided with necessary aid by their teachers at KMC whenever needed.

Megha Agarwal, a student of Economics from Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC), portrays the protagonist as a winner in her dark, gloomy fable. The book is written in diary entry form, which helps the reader connect better with Krisanne. Every emotion and thought that she experiences appears live before us. The story embarks with Krisanne’s expectations and aspirations as she enters into a lifelong companionship of love, faith and consideration with Paul Dore. But soon, her illusions are shattered as she discovers the devil in her husband. Even after years of harassment, Krisanne is caught in a web woven by the baseless norms and practices that our society entraps women in. ‘Death in Every Stride’ isn’t just another story with a sad ending. It’s a celebration of Krisanne’s victory. It’s about how she, fighting all odds, defends herself against the fiendishness of her own husband, Paul, her family and the society. One striking feature of the book is that each diary entry ends with Krisanne’s name prefixed with her emotions, such as being hopeful, scared, dutiful, victorious, etc. So give the book a read and mull over this: Why must the woman always pay for the mistakes of men like Paul in our society? Having at least one Apple product in hand has become the new trend in today’s times. People leave no opportunity to flaunt their latest Apple gizmo nowadays. In light of the big announcement Apple Inc is going to make tonight, let us take a brief view into the world of most trending Apple Products.

iPhones

“IF IT’S NOT AN IPHONE, IT’S NOT AN IPHONE” –Apple site was seen very rightly quoting about its product, which is the most sold product ever by Apple Inc. With almost half a billion pieces sold by the start of this year, an iPhone has revolutionized the mobile industry and the smart phone business. Presently Apple continues to sell the 4 variants namely iPhone 5c, 5s, 6 and 6+.
The 5c was a new concept model for Apple launching it in a variety of colours and a plastic body whereas with 5s, was introduced the concept of fingerprint sensors in mobile phones. Both the phones were great, considering their looks, features and size. Last year on this day Apple entered the Big Screen Mobile Market by launching the 5.44 x 2.64 inch iPhone 6 and the 6.22 x 3.06 inch iPhone 6 plus. Both the phones were perfect with their 8mp cameras, A8 processors and their light weights. iPhone 6 and 6+ also has a vastly improved battery life and is a complete package with great looks and its thin width. Although Apple iPhones have always been a worry for our wallets, but still compared to other competing brands, iPhones have a longer life and Apple provides great after sales service

What to Expect at Today’s Launch- Apple is expected to announce the 6s, the 6s+ and the 6c models as rumours say. Also a new Rose gold colour may be introduced in addition to the existing silver, gold and space grey colors. The new phones may also boast of a 4k quality recording and 12 mp camera with a 5mp front camera for all the Selfie freaks out here. With IOS 9 also awaited to be announced for general use today, iPhone lovers can surely expect much from todays launch.

iPads

Apple first entered the tablet market with its first product named the iPad. iPads have dominated the tablet market right from the beginning with Apple bringing lots of variations in their subsequent models each year. From the big, thick and fat iPad at its launch, today iPads rule the tablet market with their iPad air, iPad air 2, iPad mini 2 and iPad mini 3 models. Apple first brought in the “air” concept with their ultra-thin and feather weight iPads known as the iPad air. With its two size variants of 9.7 inch and 7.9 inch iPad has been a hot cake product in the market, used by students ,corporates etc.
With its A8x processor, both front and back cameras, Wi-Fi and cellular connectivity iPads have become a travel, study and work companion for all.

However like other tablets the size of such tabs make them less portable compared to smartphones and also they fail to compensate for the work a laptop can do.

What to expect at todays launch– Updates to the iPad usually come in October, but there’s a chance we could see a 12.9-inch iPad Pro on Wednesday. The larger tablet should also have Force Touch, as well as a stylus.
MacBooks

Next we take a look at what is inherent to Apple –the MacBook. Coming in two variants the MacBook Pro and the MacBook air, Apple has a good share in the Laptop Industry too. With coloured variants of the MacBook being launched last year Macbooks are just like any other laptops. However, the cheaper models of the MacBook series have quite a small storage space making it less feasible to shed 100 grands for a laptop which ,the range at which you can get way better features in other brands. However the speed, the battery life etc. make MacBooks outstand other brands. Also, you don’t know an Apple, until you own an Apple.

Apple Watch

Apple announced their entry into the fashion industry with the announcing of the Apple Watch. The Apple watch, yet to hit Indian Markets is expected to be the most sold product ever beating the records set by its own product, the iPhone. From the Budget Sports range to the Luxurious Gold Apple Watch, this product is turning out to be a perfect companion for your other apple products. Likely to hit the Indian Markets in the first week of October’15, Apple Watch is one Product you would surely like to spend money on.

Tune in to apple.com tonight at 10.30 pm to catch all the live action happening at the APPLE LAUNCH EVENT from your iphones, ipads, or macbooks .

P.S- Apple users ask SIRI to give you a hint 😉
