Over 92,000 students are set to graduate at Delhi University’s 103rd convocation, with Amit Shah as chief guest and a historic first: degrees awarded in the year of course completion.

The University of Delhi will hold its 103rd convocation on November 20, 2026, with Union Home Minister Amit Shah attending as the Chief Guest. Vice-Chancellor Professor Yogesh Singh will preside over the ceremony, which will see thousands of students receive their degrees. This year’s convocation will also mark a change in how the university distributes degrees, with students set to receive them in the same year they complete their programmes.

According to reports by ETV Bharat and Careers360, DU will award degrees to 85,231 undergraduate and 7,235 postgraduate students, taking the total to 92,466. More than 400 PhD scholars will also receive their degrees. The move to same-year degree distribution is expected to make the transition out of university easier for students, particularly those applying to foreign universities or meeting deadlines for jobs and other opportunities where degree certificates are required.

Preparations for the convocation were reviewed at a meeting held on October 22, attended by senior university officials and committee coordinators. Those present included Registrar Dr Vikas Gupta, Controller of Examinations Professor Gurpreet Singh Tuteja, Cultural Council Chairperson and Public Relations Officer Anoop Lathar, and Dean of Academic Affairs Professor K. Ratnabali. The meeting focused on reviewing arrangements and issuing directions for the smooth conduct of the ceremony.

The convocation will also recognise students for their academic achievements. The university is set to award 163 gold medals, one silver medal and 34 prizes to students across various categories.

For graduating students, the change in degree distribution could have practical implications beyond the convocation ceremony. Receiving their degree certificates in the same year they graduate would help students applying for higher education or jobs, where these documents are often required. With more than 92,000 students set to receive their degrees, the convocation will mark not only the culmination of their university years but also the beginning of their academic and professional journeys beyond Delhi University.
