In recent years, medicine has progressed at an unprecedented pace and technology has infiltrated the field of medicine as well. Improving connectivity is one of the biggest features of technology in medicine. JustDoc is one such beautiful concoction that connects customers with the doctors via a phone or video call. With a team of over 100 doctors from top hospitals of the country, the app aims at providing end to end medical consultation to everyone who has a smart phone, albeit only for Android users right now.

Mohit Saxena, the founder of Inmobi and an investor in the venture was all praise for the concept. He said, “Medical health in third world countries is a big issue and it suffers from problems like shortage of adequate doctors, differential care due to varying financial status of patients and acute accessibility to the doctors and facility, especially in the rural areas.  I have invested in JustDoc because their solution to these problems is to leverage technology and break the barriers that include reducing financial burden, providing video medical consultation in rural areas by connecting everyone from anywhere to the best possible doctors at a minimum cost.”

Started by three IITans- Jugal Anchalia, Abhishek Kumar and Vikash Singh, JustDoc is looking to make healthcare as simple and accessible as possible. Currently targeting General Medicine, Dermatology, Gynaecology and Psychology, JustDoc is planning to add Paediatrics and Sexology soon. Jugal Ancholia gives us some insight:

Motivation behind JustDoc:

Being misdiagnosed several times and wasting my time roaming from clinic to clinic got me thinking about a time-saving method of finding a good doctor. That’s how JustDoc happened. It is about using technology to make healthcare as simple as it should have been. It will make sure that quality healthcare is delivered to patients in need round the clock. We met around 150 doctors to understand how to make it work. Today, we are doing over 100 consultations a day and putting smiles on our customers’ faces.

How JustDoc plans to reach students:

Students are aware about technology and internet, but equally ignorant about their health. As a student, I just remember Googling my symptoms if I was sick. We know how lazy a student can get and that this is also very dangerous.

‘Samvaad’ is an Android based application  by Vision India Foundation, a nonprofit organization founded by alumni and faculty members of various IITs. The application is launched for Delhi; it enables communication between the citizens of different areas and their respective Councellors of Municipal Corporation of Delhi.

The app rates different areas of Delhi on various aspects like water quality, environment, sanitation, transportation, public amenities and crime. These standards are further subdivided for ease of understanding. The motive of this app is fairly simple, to make different areas of Delhi comparable and find out which chosen representative by MCD is doing better than the other.

Qwerty1

The app at first gives the map of Delhi, which has all the different areas marked, the user can search the area which he is looking for and check who is the Municipal Corporation Supervisor of that area. Along with that he can also check its rating, which is based on the ratings given by other users, the user can further give his own rating and opinion regarding any aspect which he feels like. This way the representatives of the area can keep a check on their progress and improve on areas where they are lacking. After all, public opinion matters the most.

This app will be really handy in deciding whether the same government representative should be elected again or not, it can act as a database of their work done. Moreover, by this app people will become more aware about which area is doing better off than the other and who is their Municipal Representative. This app can prove to be a little chit chat corner for the area residents as well as its representatives. The application works fine without any glitches and crashes, the user interface is fairly easy to use and understand. The best part is that the app is constantly being updated and getting a positive response over the app store.

Gone are the days when common friends, weddings, family functions and college fests were the only places to find a ‘banda’ or ‘bandi’. With everything going digital these days, ‘Boy Browsing’ and girls willing to be wooed are vouching for the desi ‘match-making apps’.

While parents might be scrounging and ransacking matrimonial sites, young Indians are liking the idea of dating apps, very cunningly worded as ‘modern-match making apps’ in some cases. Homegrown free apps such as Thrill, Woo, DesiCrush, Truly Madly, Singles Around Me, Aisle and more are available on both Android and iOS.

Most of these apps take cue from the mother of all dating apps- ‘Tinder’, which enjoys an explosive popularity in the US. However, much like our food, we Indians like more choices when it comes finding a suitable date, which sadly Tinder fails to fulfil. Recognising the issues with Tinder, Indian developers have created apps that go beyond just profile pictures and casual dating. Efforts have been increasingly put in order to weed out fake profiles and address the skewed gender ratio.

While Tinder is a location-based social discovery application where the user uses a swiping motion to choose between the photos of other users, shudh desi apps like Woo and Thrill are the more date oriented platforms.

Truly Madly, with its catchy advertisement running all over TV and social media off late, follows the motto- ‘Epic love stories need epic beginnings. Not random introductions.’ We asked a few university students about these apps and whether they would mind getting ‘unsingle’ by the online cupid, which gave us some interesting responses.

“Indian dating apps as a concept sounds good to have fun and time pass, but I think it may not be that safe a move. It might have proven to be good for some, but one needs to be cautious while taking decisions regarding their life on the basis of such apps even if it is something as common as dating.” – Aakriti Sharma, Kamala Nehru College

A student of  Jesus and Mary College shares her experience, ” I was apprehensive at first as many people use Tinder as a means for casual sex. I met my current boyfriend through Tinder and to my surprise, I found some like-minded individuals on the app who approached relationships and sex in very similar ways and if not, respected my decision. With regard to competition with Indian apps, I think the masses are finally ready to accept what was already being done in hushed tones. ‘Boy Browsing’ seems like a much less daunting prospect than casual sex, so perhaps people will gravitate towards that.”

Have you ever ended up purchasing an overpriced application from the mobile store, an application which is good for nothing? It turns out to be heavy; consumes a lot of memory; space and crashes while making your cell phone practically unusable.

Social applications are really heavy and consume a lot of battery. This is where our app of the week, Soci’asm, comes into play. This application is a life saver for those who are very active socially and always run out of battery just because of heavy usage. Also, it does not put any load over the cell phone. Soci’asm is an android based application which integrates three major social platforms – Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. This integration is really fast and reduces the pain of downloading three different applications which ultimately saves a lot of space on the cellphone. This results in making the phone much faster. Soci’asm is easy on the battery life of the cell phone. It’s really light and updates content under different tabs with a simple thumb swipe.

The user interface of the application is also really simple and friendly. The app combines different social platforms in one window under three different tabs which are easy to access. We reviewed it by using the app on a Samsung E-7 and it worked without any crashes or lags. The app had no issues while multitasking. Soci’asm is very small in size as well (under 2 megabytes).

Final Verdict: Soci’asm is light, fast, and saves battery and memory. What else does a smartphone user need? The app is available for free on the Google Play Store and an iOS version will be rolled out soon.

It has been a month since college reopened, and you’re facing the following problems: 1) You’re trying to mentally calculate how many classes to attend this semester to achieve the minimum criteria for taking the examinations; 2) There are times when you save an important file on your hard disk and the computer gets corrupted. You lose the data along with the hope of ever getting it back; 3) Bunking classes leads not only to short attendance but also to lack of notes. Copying notes is too time-consuming and pictures sent over WhatsApp are of low quality; 4) During the exams, everything distracts you, the phone being the biggest culprit of them all; 5) It’s a beautiful day, you and your friends decide to skip classes and go out but before leaving, you take a look at your wallet and it’s empty.

To tackle all these issues and make your college experience simpler and tech-friendly, QWERTY brings to you the following apps:

1.Timble and Attendance Manager

Your heart will bless the creators of these apps once you use them. At the end of the semester, you won’t have to stress your brain over recalling whether you attended classes the day your friend had her birthday. Both the apps are equally good and have a user-friendly interface. There’s a walkthrough when the app first launches, so it’ll take no time for you to learn how to use it.

Losing data of any kind is very frustrating, especially important projects and assignments. These two apps use cloud technology to not only protect your data from getting lost when your physical hard drives fail, but also to make it easier for you to share it with other people. The apps are very straight-forward and easy to use. If you want to share your files, both the apps let you generate links from which the file can be downloaded. Internet connection is mandatory for upload and download, so the downside is that if the file is large, then it might take a lot of time if your connection isn’t good.

This is one app that will help you save money on photocopies of bundles of notes for just some important pages. The app works in a very simple manner: you click the picture of the page, trim the unnecessary edges, and enhance it through the in-built editor and voila! You’ve got a picture which is as good as a scan of the page. You can also create notebooks to package notes of a particular subject. There is also an option to share the notebooks and scans through third-party apps like Dropbox and Gmail by generating a link or sending as attachments.
Platform: Android &iOS

4.Self Control

A phone to us during exams is like a moth to a flame. Even a notification for app updates makes us lose track of the topic we’ve been reading for the past two hours. This is one app that’ll help you avoid those moments of temptations and deliver you from the evil distraction of phones. The app lets you make a time table and during the time that you’ve kept for study, it turns all other apps off. There is an option to add apps as exceptions which will run even during study time. You can even set the app to prevent you from using the home page during study hours and put your phone on airplane mode. This is one app that you should definitely put to safeguard yourself from your phone during exams.
Platform: Android

Money is one thing that should be handled very carefully in college. Spend recklessly and get lectured by parents; spend too less and get called a miser. Balance is the key and this app will help you maintain that balance. The app lets you add any expenses you make at any time. You can enter the amount, set a tag for similar expenses and add a description to help you remember. You can do this every time to make an expense or set a time for the app to remind you daily to put in your expenses. You can also set a budget basis which could be monthly, weekly or daily. Your expenses get deducted from the budget and the app notifies you when you’re close to exhausting your spending limit. You can also add incomes.
Platform: Android & iOS.

As mobile applications are becoming more and more popular, tons of apps are flooding the market everyday. These apps are not only developed by billion dollar companies, but also by individuals like us. You no longer need heavy investment of money and time, neither do you need any programming skills to develop an Android app. All you require is an internet connection & some advice!

But remember, this article is NOT gonna teach you how to make the next Instagram, Flipboard or Candy Crush! Nope.  But it can help you create and distribute simple apps based on existing web content –  An app for you college’s  fest, your video channel, a website,  basic mobile games and much more without spending a buck and learning any coding language.  Ever wanted to have your own Android app? We’ll show you how!

Quite a few websites allow you to create your own applications. One the most popular & efficient one, is AppsGeyser. It is incredibly easy to use and has generated more than  5,00,000 applications! Moreover, it allows you to distribute your apps for free & provides monetization as well.

First, you must log on to the AppGeyser website and click the green ‘Create Now!” button.  A list of various app templates to choose from would be displayed.  Each template has a distinct function, and a layout to facilitate that function. You can create basic applications from websites, html code, YouTube channel, documents, etc. There are 30 different layouts available. If your app requires more than one function, don’t worry, you will later be able to add these as tabs.

Next you need to add in the source, which depends on the type of app you are creating. For example, if you are converting a website to an app you need to add the URL. Similarly, if you wanna add your own page you may attach the doc; if a photo app then images & so on.  You can see the finished product simultaneously on the “Preview” pane situated on the right side of the screen. Also, fill in other basic details like app name, version, icon, category, app background etc. Once done, click ‘Create App’.

Next, fill in your  details & create an account on AppsGeyser which would redirect you to your dashboard. Here, you can tweak your app further by clicking ‘Edit’ on the menu above. You may tune up your advanced settings such as App Permissions, Thumbnails, Loading Screen and a host of other settings.

If you want to add more content to your app, go to “Tabs’ section, click on “Add Tab” & select ‘more options’ to see the complete list of features to choose from. You can add a Homepage to your app, which would stack all your Tabs in a beautiful shelf-like layout.

Download the APK file and check it for yourself. Once you are satisfied with you application you may wanna share it with the world or use it yourself. You can share the download link for anyone to download the appe. You may also wanna browse the ‘Distribute’ section for further sharing options.

AppsGeyser also lets you earn through your apps. If your app gets downloaded 100 times (No ads will be displayed otherwise), Click on ‘Monetization’ from top menu and opt in for a Revenue Program. Half of the profits will be shared by you (50-50)!

Thats it! This whole procedure should take you less than 5 minutes & without any technical knowledge you successfully created an app, on your own! So go ahead & create apps – show off, flaunt, share, learn & earn!
