Day 2 of Mecca’16, the annual fest of Hindu College commenced with NDTV’s The Rising Standup Comedy Competition. The first performer was Rohan Chaudhary from IPM College. A total of 9 teams took part and the winners will be announced tomorrow. The programme will be on air soon.

Keeping the fashion quotient high, Nakshatra-The Fashion Society of Hindu College, sponsored by Forever 21, organised Panache, the Fashion show event on day 2 of Mecca. With 8 participating teams from various colleges, the event showcased a plethora of themes.

From zodiac and women empowerment to acceptance of LGBT community, colleges such as Shaheed Rajguru, Institute of Home Economics, Sri Guru Govind Singh College of Commerce presented their creations. Judged by the Management Head of Forever 21, Mr. Manav Chopra and Varoon Kapoor, GGS College emerged as the winners of the event.

Ibtida, the dramatics society of Hindu College organised Nukkad Natak Competition. The judge of the event was Sahil Yadav, a Hindu as well as JNU pass out, who also was in the dramatics society. The first prize went to Dramanomics, College of Vocational Studies and Kshitij of Gargi College won the second prize. Special mention was given to Tanya from Shivaji College.

  On being asked what he thought about the performances, Sahil Yadav commented, ‘The teams have carried on well with a new trend that was picked almost four years back, to establish the message step by step. Totally love being here.’  

Some minor events like Photography Competition, Treasure Hunt, etc also took place. The second day ended with EDM night featuring DJ Anish Sood and Dualist Inquiry.

Day 1 of Mecca’16, the Annual Cultural Fest of Hindu College started with the lamp lighting ceremony. The fest was inaugurated by Hindu College’s Principal Dr. Anju Srivastava and Parliament’s Prime Minister Ashish K Holaria. The inauguration ceremony was followed by a performance by Mizaaj, the band.

Aria, the Western Music Society of Hindu College conducted Battle of Bands and Instrumental Solo Competition. The Battle of Bands kicked off with a performance by Mufills, a collaboration of students from different colleges. The jury of both the competitions consisted of Ritesh Khokhar and Nishant Hagjer who announced Playtime from Hans Raj as the winners of Battle of Bands. The runner up were Mufills.

The Instrumental Solo competition started with KNC’s Anshuman Sharma’s  performance. When Ritesh Khokhar was asked what he thought about the performances, he said, ‘It’s a lovely process. The music is absolutely beautiful.’

The last major event to take place was Western Dance. The first performance of the event was by Aurobindo College. The judge of the event was Hemant Kumar. The winners of the competition were Misba Dance Grew from Guru Gobind Singh College. The second place was held by Verve, the Western Dance Society of Sri Venkateswara College, and the third place was held by IIT Delhi.

 

Other minor events that took place were Street Soccer, Times Vebate, and Playground Sports’ Quiz.

The audience then geared up for the closing act of the day which was a star night with The Raghu Dixit Project. The band sang its famous songs in Hindi, Kannada and Tamil. The crowd of about 5000 enjoyed to their numbers like Ambar, Masti Ki Basti and many more.

Mecca, the annual fest of Hindu college, attracted an enormous amount of students from various colleges of Delhi University. The second day of the fest saw the audience being mesmerised even in the practice sessions. The atmosphere of the college was  vibrant and cheerful. The fragrance of mouth watering gol gappe, aloo tikki, dahi bhalla, bhel puri, momos, ice creams from nirula’s, stuff from M aunty’s kitchen wooed one and all. Hoopla and gunshot games were the favourite amongst the people. The bands from various colleges delighted the audience by playing groovy numbers. The audience was struck as if by the voice of nightingales when tracks like Alicia Key’s ‘girl on fire’, Cold Play’s ‘the scientist’, Katy Perry’s ‘hot and cold’, Green Day’s  ‘american idiot’, Ishaqzaade’s ‘main pareshaan’ were being played by the bands. Face painting commenced at 2, giving way to the potential in the participants to show itself with full enthusiasm. There was no particular theme for the competition and the time allotted was an hour. The participants were supposed to bring their own colours and prizes worth Rs.1,000 were to be won. Treasure hunt started simultaneously at 2, taking place within 400 metre radius of Hindu college. Hints were given in a poetic form and the rules were clearly put across. The participants were not allowed to use any means of transport and misbehaving with the volunteers was strictly prohibited. The participants were forced to put their thinking caps on and the event was a great success. The total members in the team were 4 or less. Volley ball competition witnessed a large number of participants from various colleges with each player giving his best effort , both in playing and enjoying. Harmony, the inter-college music competition, started around 3 with Gustakh Ahmed Khan, the legendary vocalist who has given performances in countries like Australia and Pakistan, being the judge. Hans Raj college performed the first enthralling the audience with classical melodies like ‘hey gajaanan’ and ‘mora mann bhaayo re’ while SRCC performed the last. Six colleges took part in the competition. The audience was captivated and remained glued to their seats. The activities kept everyone engaged. The crowd was enjoying thoroughly and seemed in a festive mood. It was a great time to hang around in Hindu college. The first day of the Hindu College fest, Mecca 2013, began with the Street Play competition in the Ibtida Grounds at 2:30 with participation from various colleges. The winners were:

  1. Sukhdev College of Business Studies
  2. Jesus & Mary College.
It was judged by ex-Ibtidians, Ankush Sharma and Ankit Chaddha. Choreography and Western Dance Competitions were held at the auditorium and the large crowd was wowed by the dancers that won over the audience with dramatic moves and music. The winners of the Choreography Competition were:
  1. Gargi College
  2. Hindu College
  3. Kamla Nehru College
The judges were Mandeep Raikhyi and Manju Sharma. Western Dance Competition was won by:
  1. Daulat Ram College
  2. NIEC
  3. Sri Venketashwara College and Kamla Nehru College
Judged by Anish Popli. A Hindi Debate Competition was also organised and the winners were:
  1. Hindu College (Ankit Kumar and Aseem Agarwal)
  2. Kirori Mal College (Anurag and Prabhanshu)
The judges were Vimal Kant and Dr. Arvind Kumar ‘Sambal’ A Chess competition was also organised at the Sports Complex, and the winner was Dheeraj from Hindu college.
