As we all know, Delhi University is one of the most renowned universities of India. All the colleges under this university have various societies that relate to different spectrum of our living. But, the society of Human Resource Development has been an unexplored arena and only 2 colleges had it registered until 2015. However, in 2016, Hansraj College came up with the 3rd HRD cell of Delhi University i.e. NEENV.

“HARD WORK PAYS OFF” is a cliché, yet a very true statement.

After numerous sleepless nights and endless efforts of the Neenv Team, IMPERIUM 2K16, the 1st Flagship event of NEENV, has been successfully organised.

The event accorded of 3 business competitions: House of bids (HR Bidding), Collectivo (Corp Talk) and Case N Curious (Case Study). The event received hopped up responses of more than 100 participants.

Mr. Rohit Kharbanda (Director, Intercontinental Hotel Groups) and Ms. Kawaljeetin Khurrana (Director, Kapp Edge Solutions) were invited as our Chief Guests to grace the occasion. All the three competitions were very well organised. The feedback of the students was also quite good as they were very satisfied by the management of the events.

Even though NEENV has just started its journey, the event is just the tip of the iceberg and there is a lot more to go. Thus, the society has earned itself a wonderful beginning, which it can be truly proud of. The continuous hard work will help it to achieve a remarkable position among DU’s other societies.

The phase one Donation Drive of the campaign ‘Let’s Spread Love’ was organised on October 25, 2016 from 3 pm to 8 pm.

The activities of the campaign led by Naman jain were carried out by a total number of 15 volunteers. The clothes were sponsored by ‘Clothes box Foundation’ as their support to the noble cause. The clothes were distributed among thousands of people including all age groups on various trigger points in east Delhi including Seemapuri Slum, Sai mandir and Balaji mandir.

A major support by ‘ You Can Foundation’ was also appreciable. People thronged the area, caused difficulties due to which chocolates were not distributed, but were soon donated to the children in an orphanage by You Can Foundation as a token of love. Various people blessed the volunteers for the noble and kind act and also wished them Happy DIWALI.

Thereafter, a lot of clothes were distributed by the group of volunteers on the pathways of Sai Mandir near Savita Vihar and Balaji Mandir in Vivek Vihar and the people were extremely supportive.

On being asked, Naman said, “Nothing could be a better experience than the smile that I saw on those innocent faces which was my real reward. I urged people to come forward and donate on their individual level. We aimed to donate around 500 clothes but with the help of various people, we were able to donate around 1000 clothes. All the volunteers seemed satisfied and the happiness on their faces described everything. We faced a lot of problems in the beginning but at the end we were able to manage everything.“

untitled

The main aim of the event was to bring smiles on the innocent faces of those needy and helpless people who were deprived of clothes, food etc, to spring Diwali merriment in the lives of the impoverished sections of the society and to cherish those smiles when our little efforts made such a big difference.

The team and volunteers consisted of: Naman Jain, Sourabh Singhal, Karan Jain, Yogita Malhotra, Aditya Nama, Taranjeet Saini, Riya Garg, Shreya Goyal, Nidhi, Tanushree Singh, Abhishek Jain, Prateek Kumar, Kangan Vohra and Anas Shamsi

Dear Fuchchas,

Another ending and I am yet to get over it. Game of Thrones (GOT) and its never ending surprises have become just another part of every GOT fan’s life. As I sit in my present, which is your future, I think every Game of Thrones fan out there deserves to know what happened in these last episodes so that the exclusive right to throw surprises doesn’t remain with the makers of GOT alone.

I won’t divulge the whole details but the major happenings will be disclosed in the coming lines. So this is a warning if you are someone who has a weak heart for spoilers then consult your doctor before reading ahead. So here are some instances of GOT, which will happen in your future and my past.

The war has seen an end. Let me inform you that two major wars have been fought. One between Cersei and an alliance of Daenerys Targaryen and the King in the North. But this is not something you should look forward to. The real battle that will race your veins is the one which is fought between the living and the dead. The iron throne does not exist anymore. After winning the Battle of Seven kingdoms and imprisoning Cersei, John and the Mother of Dragons realise that their bigger enemy are the White Walkers. On the advice of Sir Jorah, who has already found his cure the iron throne is melted as it is made of pure Valyrian steel and the swords made out of it are used to fight the white walkers. In this battle of survival, the key advisor is the new three eyed raven who turns the tables with his skills.

I hope enough has been said, I should take leave and leave the rest of the story to be told by David Benioff and D. B. Weiss.

With some Dragon fire,

A GOT fan, from the future

Students of SRCC are evaluating the factors that influence the acceptability of Smart Bus Transport System under DU’s Innovation Project.

A group of students from Shri Ram College Of Commerce are working on an evaluation of acceptability of Internet Of Things (IoT) in traffic management in Delhi. The concept of Internet Of Things primarily revolves around inter-connecting things with internet to make a self-sustaining system. It is a concept well explored in other countries, but the widespread use of IoT in handling day-to-day problems is still in its nascent stage in India.

To help you understand better, there exists a technology where closets are fitted with sensors, which detect the time certain clothes remain unused, and alert the owner of the same. Some variations in this technology also directly contact NGOs that collect these unused clothes from the owner and put them to better use. This is just an example of the innumerable IoT applications that exist around the world.

img-20161022-wa0057

This project primarily focuses on IoT technology applied to traffic management in Delhi, and thus, evaluates the Smart Bus Transport system on its acceptability, based on a Technology Acceptance Model (TAM). The Smart Bus Transport system was designed for improving the public-transit system in Singapore, and connects buses with the internet and commuters’ mobile devices, so that real-time alerts of bus locations, timings and remaining capacity can be transmitted to make travel by public transport more efficient and convenient.

Therefore, a preliminary survey was conducted to identify a traffic problem which the residents and commuters in Delhi would like to be addressed first by an application of IoT. The final survey will be carried out on the lines of TAM. The data generated will then, be subjected to vigorous statistical analysis.

Resident of Delhi? Be a part of the survey. Click on https://innovationproject.typeform.com/to/Pb0TMt and tell them your take on the Internet of Things.

After Zaeden and Sound Avtar brought the night to an end on Day 3, Day 4 at Oasis, BITS Pilani, started off with the stage play finals. The dramatics society of Shaheed Bhagat Singh College (M), Natuve, bagged the first prize, followed by St. Xavier’s College.

DUs new diktat making the Hindi Test compulsory to obtain a degree under CBCS doesnt consider the fact that a lot of its students are from non-Hindi speaking regions. Does education really need a language after all? Read along to find out.

Delhi University has always been a melting pot of students from all over our country, (sometimes even outside of India) and it has always been a place that is a close second to the homes of people who aren’t from the capital. However, in recent times, the policies of our beloved University are changing and it is not for the better. A few weeks ago, DU issued a diktat stating that students who haven’t studied Hindi after 8th class in school have to give a Compulsory Test Hindi (CTH) under CBCS.

The rule that has been in place

Hindi was not compulsory in the Choice-Based Credit System (CBCS), implemented in the university a while back. The council made changes to the CBCS syllabus to make sure everyone graduating from DU knows basic Hindi.

The Hindi test is already triggering a controversy as hundreds of students in DU colleges come from states where the language is not compulsory in the school curriculum. Students from the Northeast threatened to launch a stir if the Hindi exam is introduced.

In 2013, when the university introduced compulsory Hindi and modern Indian languages, students from the northeastern states had protested.

The current situation

Deccan Herald reported that Dr. Ramananda Singh Mayanglambam, professor and nodal officer of the NE Cell in Kirori Mal College, said that he opposed the motion to make the Hindi test compulsory. His argument was supported by many others in the academic council meeting but was, however, left out of the notes. He also said that no executive meeting was held after that and the decision was made final and had already been set in motion.

This comes as another brutality that outstation students have to face. How are they going to learn a language – and pass an exam on it – when they don’t speak that language and when they haven’t practiced it in years? While on one hand, colleges in DU try to promote secularity and diversity in culture, the University Board on the other seems to weighing down students with the burden of nationality and using language as a means.

This isn’t 1947 anymore when a free Indian government strived to make Hindi compulsory across India just because it is spoken/used in majority – this is 2016, an era that is almost 70 years past that. This is the era where we expect Indians to have moved past boundary, language and culture based differences and to have realised the rightful concern for the minorities. But instead of accepting a diverse country, it is being made into a place where even students from different quarters are made to feel like outsiders.

The students take

“Most of the students from my state have studied Hindi till 8th as their third language. Only a few would continue with Hindi after that. Asking them to take a test and qualify in a language very much alien to them just because it is supposedly our “official” language is absurd. Why is this being imposed? This is supposed to be a Central University and therefore, a secular space which would accommodate the diversity of its students, and not a space to impose hegemonic agendas,” says a Miranda House student who is from Kerela.

Another student from the same college, Sampriti Dastidar from Assam, says, “I do not think this is relevant since most of the students from the North East have either not studied the language at all, or they have only studied it till the 8th grade. I think it is unfair to make the students take a compulsory test when they don’t even have enough knowledge about the subject.”

To most people, this would seem like another rule thrown in by the University Board. But it is more than that – it is about one’s right to feel like they belong in their own country, in their own capital. It is about accepting diversity and spreading secularism and tolerance, especially in times like these, when the whole country’s integrity is threatened. That is why it is important for prestigious institutions like Delhi University to take a stand against this idea of a ‘forced national identity’ instead of propagating it. For those who don’t know already, India does not have any ‘national’ language per say, but ‘Hindi’ and ‘English’ are the official languages accepted for administrative reasons, but what indeed gives Hindi as a language the precedence or the pedestal position to be put as a criterion for one’s graduation is not just absurd but also something worth pondering upon.

Razzmatazz was a highlight event, with many Delhi University colleges also participating. Unlike most other dance fests, Razzmatazz conducted three rounds in its finals. The first was the prepared performance of the teams. The participants had an extremely short amount of time to prepare for the second and third rounds. In the second round, the teams were given a mix of songs on which they had to create a cohesive performance. This was to test their synchronisation with each other and with the beat. The most entertaining round was the third, in which each team was given a different prop which they were required to use throughout the performance. An engaging event, it elicited immense applause and cheers from the audience. The results of all the competitions conducted today will be declared tomorrow.

The night is to conclude with a Hindi prof show by Bollywood star Amit Trivedi, known for his soulful performances at Coke Studio.
