UG Admissions ’16: Admission Guidelines for NCWEB

Delhi University’s Non-Collegiate Women’s Education Board (NCWEB) is a forum through which female students in the National Capital Territory of Delhi can attain a DU degree in three-year B.A. (Programme) or B.Com. courses without attending regular classes in DU colleges. The NCWEB holds classes on college campuses on Saturdays, Sundays, and during academic breaks. There are 50 teaching days in a year, from 8am to 3:30pm. A minimum attendance of 66% is required for the student to be eligible for giving the DU exams. Admission is granted on the basis of merit through the declaration of cut-offs.

Applying to the NCWEB:

Applicants to the NCWEB must register through the common online undergraduate portal at http://ug.du.ac.in/. They must fill in their personal details and indicate the courses of their choice. Admission will be granted on the basis of marks obtained in the best four subjects (for a detailed explanation of how to calculate your best of four, read: Calculation of best of four). The NCWEB grants reservations as per the DU rules. There are a total of 284 seats in the B.A. (Programme) course and 184 seats in the B.Com. course.

The eligibility criteria for admission to the NCWEB are as follows:

  • Female student
  • Resident of NCT
  • Not pursuing any full-time course

Important Dates:

July 12 – First cut-off list (admissions on July 12, 13, 14)

July 15 – Second cut-off list (admissions on July 15, 16, 17)

July 18 – Third cut-off list (admissions on July 18, 19, 20)

July 21 – Fourth cut-off list (admissions on July 21, 22, 23)

July 25 – Fifth cut-off list (admissions on July 25, 26, 27)

Dates and guidelines for admission to NCWEB in 2015

The NCWEB is well established institution under Delhi University which seeks to provide education to women with special coaching but without attending regular classes. It was started in 1944 and due to its increasing popularity and logistical issues, it has established centers in colleges like Bharati College, Janki Devi Memorial College, Jesus & Mary College, Kalindi College, Lakshmi Bai College,Mata Sundri College, Maitreyi College, PGDAV College, Shyama Prasad Mukherjee College, Sri Guru Gobind Singh College of Commerce, Hans Raj College, Maharaja Agrasen College and Vivekananda College. It only conducts weekend classes – on the remaining days of the week, students are free to pursue an occupation or another educational course.

Like SOL, NCWEB follows the annual examination system. It teaches the following two courses:

  • BA Programme (English, Hindi, Punjabi, History, Political Science, Sanskrit, Economics, Mathematics, OMSP-Office Management & Secretarial Practice)
  • B.Com.

The Non Collegiate Women’s Education Board (NCWEB) has declared its guidelines,  important information along with dates for admissions to undergraduate courses.

  • The forms will be sold from 8th June to 24th June at 4 centres, namely Kalindi College, Maharaja Agarsen College, PGDAV College and Shyama Prasad Mukherjee College.
  • Admission to the NCWEB centers will be decided on the basis of cutoffs.
  • The percentage for B.A. Program will be decided on the basis of 10+2 board results by taking the best of four subjects which should have one language and three best subjects which can include maximum one vocational subject.
  • While for B.Com. the criteria is one language, Business Studies, Accountancy and one more best subject which could be a vocational subject as well. Students from streams other than Commerce will be considered with a deduction of 5% marks in best of four percentage.
  • The first cutoff list will be out on 8Th July and the last on 21st July.

The OMR form needs to be filled with attention. Only black/blue point ink is to be used. No photocopies are to be attached with the form. After filling the form, its photocopy must be stamped and kept as an acknowledgement. Make sure that the boxes in the form are properly filled, otherwise you stand a chance of getting your form rejected.

Admission guidelines for Cluster Innovation Centre and NCWEB

On the second Open Day conference, Dr. Anju Gupta, Director of NCWEB (Non Collegiate Women Education Board) addressed the Delhi University aspirants. The NCWEB offers BA and BCom courses to working women in Delhi. While degrees are not awarded to the students, diploma courses can be opted for. The classes are held on the weekend and no internal assessment is done.

Following that, Dr. Supriya and Dr. Shobha from the Cluster Innovation Centre (CIC) informed the DU aspirants about B. Tech Humanities and B. Tech Innovation with Mathematics and IT.

The information regarding both the courses is as follows:

  1. The CIC form needs to be filled between June 24 and July 24. The entrance test will be conducted on June 27. The admission process also includes an interview.
  2. The applicant will have to enroll himself/herself in any course and college in Delhi University to be eligible to apply for admission to these courses.
  3. For semester I, students will have to choose one core subject in the CIC center.
  4. For semester II, students will have to take two papers in any college where such courses are available.
  5. For B. Tech Innovation with Mathematics and IT, the applicant needs to have Mathematics in 12th standard.
  6. The merit list will be issued on the basis of an entrance test.
  7. The CIC form needs to be filled on June 24-July 24. The entrance test will be conducted on June 27. The admission process also includes an interview.

NCWEB celebrates annual day

th March 2014. Mrs. Leela Nandan (IAS), resident commissioner of U.P. was the chief guest for the event and Prof. J.M. Khurana served as the guest of honour. In her keynote address, Mrs. Nandan discussed the importance of institutions such as NCWEB while Prof. Khurana highlighted the academic benchmarks achieved by NCWEB. 10149355_817627291598036_1093474953_nDuring the course of the event, NCWEB also acknowledged the academic excellence of students who brought laurels to the institution. The event also included a music and dance performance followed by a street play by the students. Other standout performances included a Bharatanatyam dance by a girl who survived polio during her childhood and Poetry recital by another student who was differently abled. Both the performances got a huge cheer from the crowd. Sincere efforts by Dr. Anju Gupta, Director, NCWEB and other staff members contributed in the success of the event.]]>

University to increase NCWEB centres, increasing seats by 30%

Delhi University has recently decided to offer more Non-Collegiate Women’s Education Board centres to students from the upcoming year. The number of centres is to be increased from thirteen to sixteen, thereby increasing the number of seats by about thirty percent.

The Non-Collegiate Women’s Education Board at North Campus provides the students with the degree of correspondence but it is different from School of Open Learning in many respects. Only limited colleges offer classes for this course and only women students residing in the National capital Territory of Delhi can enroll themselves as students of the Board. On one hand where the cut off is about ninety percent in B.Com (H) in regular colleges, the students can get admission at seventy percent here.

The centres for NCWEB are the regular colleges itself, wherein classes are held during weekends and other holidays. Out of the thirteen centres at present, twelve are colleges and one is a school. Due to the lack of adequate number of centres, it was reported that the students had faced a lot of problem last year as the number of students who took admission was about ten times the total allotted seats. The authorities had to go through a tough time while organizing classes. Owing to the lack of coordination between Delhi University and the school authorities, the school could be wiped off as a centre from this tear onward with some college replacing it. Currently, B.A., B.Com and M.A. are the kind of courses offered in such an arrangement with 5,590 seats in total. Hans Raj College, Bharti College, Janki Devi Memorial College, Jesus and Mary College, Lakshmi Bai College, Maharaja Agrasen College, Maitreyi College, Mata Sundari College, PGDAV College, Shyama Prasad Mukherjee College, Sri Guru Gobind Singh College of Commerce etc. are among the centres for NCWEB. Also, the students are free to opt for jobs while studying.

Around seventy percent of the students are working at present, which is also encouraged by the Board. Non-Collegiate Centres are the best option, apart from regular colleges, where one can get quality education and other services in the regular colleges. Apart from this, sports and other extra- curricular activities are given prime importance for the overall development of students. Seminars are organized, giving a platform to the students to gain knowledge outside the classroom.
