DU Student Fakes Own Kidnapping

Late 6th October night, a father received a purported video of his daughter on WhatsApp with her hands and legs tied with repeated cries of “mujhe chhor do”. A case was registered in the Adarsh Nagar police station.

A first-year correspondence student from Delhi University (DU) left her home in Adarsh Nagar on Sunday to attend classes at a DU college, but instead, she went to Purana Quila with her friends. She lied to her father over the phone stating she was outside her college. He demanded to show him the college building on a video call. She panicked and hung up after which she avoided her parents’ calls and spent the night ahead at her friend’s house. 

Fearing that her parents would discover her bunking college, and scold her for the same, the 18-year-old orchestrated her own kidnapping. Late Sunday night, the father received a purported video of his daughter on WhatsApp with her hands and legs tied with repeated cries of “mujhe chhor do” (leave me). A case under IPC Section 365 (kidnapping) was registered in the Adarsh Nagar police station. The girl’s phone was put under technical surveillance, while teams were formed to look for her. 

Her parents received a call from a passerby in Old Delhi’s Ballimaran area on Monday stating that their daughter was crying on the street. However, she had asked the man to call them up. 

While questioning, she alleged to the police that she was kidnapped by four-five men on Sunday evening who took her to a jungle. “She couldn’t point out the location and said that at night when the men slept off, she escaped. When she was prodded a bit more, she confessed that she had made up the story,” said DCP (North West) Vijayanta Arya to The Indian Express. The woman made a video of herself in distress with hands and legs tied with the help of a friend. 

A similar incident took place in Mumbai, March 2018 when a Class IX student faked his kidnapping and sexual assault after bunking to escape punishment from his parents and school.

DU Student  Abducted Outside College; Police Fail to Catch the Kidnapper

In a horrific incident of kidnapping, on Monday, a 21 year old Delhi University (DU) student was allegedly kidnapped outside Shyama Prasad Mukherji College.

The victim hails from Farrukhnagar, Gurugram, and according to her family, was going to appear for her semester exam. Harish Yadav, who later called the victim’s father, identified himself as the kidnapper and warned him against apprising the police. However, the girl’s father did approach the police in Farrukhnagar, but was asked to file a complaint in Delhi because that is where she was kidnapped.

A complaint was lodged in Gurugram on Wednesday only after the local residents raised a hue and cry.  

“I tried to call up my daughter but there was no response. As she didn’t come back, I called up the police control room but they didn’t pay heed to my requests,” said the girl’s father. The local police stated that since the girl had gone missing from Delhi, they were to approach the Delhi Police. “We then called our relatives for help. On Wednesday when villagers gathered and pressured them to file a complaint, the police registered an FIR.”

An FIR has been registered against Harish Yadav, who is believed to be a resident of Fazilpur village, under section 363 (kidnapping) of the IPC at Farrukhnagar police station. “We have constituted a special team to look into the kidnapping. Our team is conducting raids to nab the accused,” said inspector Babu Lal, SHO of Farrukhnagar police station.

Exemplifying the police’s incompetency, the girl remains untraced.

Commerce Student, Short on Money, Kidnaps 3-year-old

College students are always short on cash, no matter how much pocket allowance they are given. In order to make up for the difference, they adopt different tactics. Some cut down on wasteful expenditure, while others take tutions or do internships but what a first year commerce Student from Ramanujan College did to bridge the gap between revenue and expenditure, will leave you stumped.
According to media, in an attempt to acquire easy money, first year commerce student, accompanied by her brother, studying in class XII, kidnapped their landlords three-year-old son. They demanded a ransom of INR 50 Lakh to release the child.
Initially, an amount of INR 5 Crores was demanded as ransom by the duo. However, the not-so-good-at-bargaining commerce student settled for INR 50 lakh. The negotiations were carried out over WhatsApp, the internet connection for which, came through an internet hotspot. What’s interesting here, is that the duo had been planning this since August, and had rented a room in the nearby area to hold the child in. News 18 reported that, “Based on a missing complaint filed by the victim’s father on Thursday, a case was registered at the Vasant Kunj police station.”
Adding to these details, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Delhi-Southwest), mentions that the woman and her brother were arrested from their home within 24 hours of this incident. The child has been rescued and is now safe. During investigation, it was revealed that the accused demanded the ransom amount from the victim’s father through whatsapp messages, Devender Arya, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southwest) said.
This incident brings to light the decrepit condition of the student pocket allowances and the raising criminal tendency. It must be noted here, that under such circumstances, the parents must be approached for raises, rather than children be kidnapped.

St. Stephen’s Girl Kidnapped, Boyfriend Arrested for Hatching the Plan

In what comes across as a rather deplorable episode, a third-year student of Mathematics Honors from St. Stephen’s college was allegedly abducted on August 15 by her 24-year-old boyfriend who held her in custody at a hotel in Paharganj area of Central Delhi before police extricated her the following day.

Apparently, the accused, identified as Abhishek Deep, a journalism graduate from IP University, had called the girl to the Shastri Nagar Metro station, subsequent to which he took her to Hotel Ashoka in Paharganj. There he had already reserved two rooms, one of which was in the name of the victim. After forcefully locking her in one of the rooms, he made a call from her mobile to her father and demanded ransom of Rs. 1.5 crore.

However, his plans met with a disaster when the girl’s father, who is a consultant at an iron ore firm in Bangalore, informed the police and after registering a case, a rigorous interrogation kick started. It was actually through phone surveillance that the location of the number was unearthed following which the victim was rescued. At the same time, the police also collared Abhishek and arrested him on the grounds of kidnapping a girl.

During the aftermath interrogations, it was garnered that the accused, a native of Chattisgarh, was in desperate need of money and hence concocted this entire conspiracy. In fact, he was unemployed but had a longing to lead a prolific lifestyle and had earlier taken a handsome amount of money from his previous girlfriend as well. The two met at a fest in January this year and were in association since then.

Reportedly, the girl in question did a year of her graduation in United States before migrating to India three years back. She was now putting up in a flat in Kingsway camp near North Campus. According to some of her acquaintances who refused to be quoted or named, she didn’t share an emotional bond with her parents and their relationship was more or less confined to matters related to finances. She had also flunked in her second year exams, the result of which came on the day of this incident. She has now gone back to Bangalore and is perhaps planning to shift to United Stated again.
