ABVP has announced a march at DU’s North Campus on November 4, accusing student groups of promoting divisive agendas during protests.
The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) will hold a march called Arajakta Roko (Stop Anarchy, Embrace Democracy) at Delhi University’s North Campus on Wednesday, November 4. The organisation expects more than 10,000 participants to join the march along Chhatra Marg, according to Times Now. The march is expected to begin around 12/12:30 pm at the DU Rugby Stadium and end at the Campus Law Centre.
ABVP Delhi State Secretary Sarthak Sharma said that recently genuine student agitations are being used to push divisive agendas. He said slogans such as “Free Umar Khalid” and “Release Sharjeel Imam” are raised at protests on unrelated issues, including pollution and NEET. Referring to recent unrest at Jamia Millia Islamia over Student Union elections, Sharma said walls there had been painted with “Free Kashmir” slogans, which he said showed that forces seeking to break India were active.
ABVP National Secretary Aditya Katiyar accused the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) and left-affiliated activists of sympathising with anti-India forces. He named CJP members Abhijeet Dipke and Saurav Das and AISA president Neha Bora. Times Now did not include responses from the individuals named.
DUSU President Yash Dabas, who also belongs to the ABVP, responding to the allegations of electoral irregularities, stated that ABVP had won DUSU on EVMs and Punjab University on ballot papers. He added that questioning bodies such as the Supreme Court or central investigative agencies weakens public trust.
He alleged that YouTuber Dhruv Rathee had stated the army should revolt against the government and that Bora had called for Bangladesh-style mass unrest. He also alleged that pro-Maoist slogans were raised at anti-pollution demonstrations at India Gate, and called recent CJP protests a front for the Aam Aadmi Party. “Their only objective is regime change,” he said.
The march is part of a wider ABVP campaign titled Arajakta Roko, Loktantra Bachao. The organisation held a protest in Bhopal on October 27. In Patna, on October 30, protesters crossed police barricades while Dabas addressed them. The campaign follows after the CJP-led protest in Delhi on October 10, when the Supreme Court held a special Sunday sitting over metro closures and detentions.
