As the Hindu College Staff Association dharna continues, DTF has called for a protest demanding immediate withdrawal of show-cause notices issued against three faculty members amid concerns over admissions.
On 30 September 2026, Wednesday, the teachers under the Democratic Teachers’ Front called for a protest march from Hindu College to the Vice Chancellor’s office for the immediate withdrawal of the show-cause notices and against administrative irregularities. This comes after the Governing Body of Hindu College issued notices to three faculty members for misconduct, indiscipline and insubordination. The three faculty members are Hindu College Staff Association President Dr Ratan Lal, Secretary Shankar Kumar, and senior faculty member Dr P.K. Vijayan.
The teachers have been staging a protest on campus, raising allegations of serious irregularities in the admission process of Hindu College under the Sports and ECA category. The teachers flagged issues of algorithm failures and over-admissions while stating that the CUET and CSAS portal is prone to error and lacks transparency. The teachers accused the administration of turning autocratic as the Vice Principal continues its tenure despite the presence of eligible candidates.
One of the Associate Professors, Dr Ratan Lal, had made statements, dating back to August, condemning the principal and claiming that he had “no confidence” in the principal. He also raised serious allegations, accusing the principal of a dubious role in admissions and pressurising the college statutory bodies.
A meeting of the governing body was convened on 7 September 2026, which expressed its concerns over the statements, following which a public notice was issued to Dr Ratan Lal on 8 September 2026, in response to his public criticism of the principal and raising allegations of irregularities. The governing body accused Ratan Lal of acting in a prejudiced manner and described his conduct as unworthy of becoming a teacher.
