With the newly introduced centralised trials system in place, the varsity will begin sports category trials from 24 June 2016. The decision was taken at a meeting of the varsity administration on Monday. Amidst foul cry by authorities, St Stephen’s college rejected the call to join the process and went on to begin its trials on Monday under the observation of a DU official.

This year, on the directions of the High Court, a centralised system has been put in place to do away with multiple rounds of trials and avoid malpractices. Trials of different sports will happen at designated colleges and certificates thus issued will be accepted by all the colleges.

In order to be eligible for the main trials, candidates need to have cleared fitness tests prescribed by the Delhi University Sports Council (DUSC). The main trials carry a weightage of 50 percent in the overall assessment process which has others criterions like accolades at district, state, national and international events and performance in the last three years.

This year, the university has received 9,780 applications for admissions under the sports category. With less than three days to go, the time crunch is sure to put many outstation aspirants in a fix.

Sports Trial schedule that has been released by the varsity is as following:

  1. Basketball (Venue: IPCW), Cricket (Women; Lakshmibai College), Aquatics (LSR), Tennis (Women; LSR), Squash (Sri Venkateswara College), Cricket (Men,University Ground) will happen on 24th June;
  2. Boxing (Dyal Singh College), Shooting (Hansraj College), Archery (Hansraj College), Hockey (Men; Shyam Lal College), Football (Men; Moti Lal Nehru College), Volleyball (M; PGDAV College) on 25th June;
  3. Tennis (Men; University Pologround), Football (Women; Kamla Nehru College), Hockey (Women; Shyama Prasad Mukherji College) and Basketball (Men, University Pologround) on 27th June;
  4. Athletics (University Pologround) on 28th June;
  5. Wrestling (Chhatrasal Stadium) on 29th June;
  6. Kho-Kho (Women; Satyawati College) on 30th June;
  7. Kho-Kho (Men, Satyawati College) on 1st July;
  8. Softball (Men, Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar College) on 2nd July

For the complete schedule, visit the notification on DU’s website.

Candidates are to report 30 minutes prior to the scheduled time of fitness tests and sports trials.

St. Stephen’s College has been known to be the recipient of the crème de la crème of applications. However, this year there are lesser people fighting for those 410 seats. This year St. Stephens received 23,500 applications as opposed to the 29,672 applications it received last year.

The main perpetrator, according to the teachers has been the confusion caused by Stephens’ differentiated admissions procedure and schedule. Almost all disciplines witnessed a downfall in applications. Economics saw a 29% decrease, Mathematics 31%, English 20%, Chemistry 39%, Physics 34%, and BSc programme with chemistry 28%. For a few disciplines, the number of applications increased, like for, B.A Programme (12%), philosophy (17%), Sanskrit (39%) and BSc Programme (Computer Science 28%).

The Admissions Committee has been in quite an unpleasant position regarding St. Stephens’ admission procedure. “The Committee is of a unanimous opinion that St. Stephens and even Jesus and Mary College must follow the centralised procedure as notified by the varsity. The whole purpose of the High Court directive was to help the students skip the hassle of multiple trials. If the directive is not adhered to, then the university holds the right to withhold enrolment numbers of any student taking admission in these colleges. We have notified St. Stephens College about the same and are awaiting their response” said the Admissions Committee as told to DU Beat.

Despite the numbers, the public information officer of the college, A.D Mathur seems untroubled. “The numbers dropping by a few thousand doesn’t mean anything because 23,500 is still a huge number considering the very few seats available” said A.D Mathur as told to Times of India.

The communication from the St. Stephens has thrown people as this time it has not mentioned as it is every year that the admission process and applications are different. The dates for admissions are normally synched with those of the other DU colleges but that was not done this year either, making way for disconcerted feelings.

One of the teachers at Stephens told Times of India that a fee hike maybe a reason, also that it is important to see if it is just this college or if the number of applications have declined across the University.

On the Sports and ECA front, Delhi University has asked St. Stephens and other minority institutions to join the common admission procedure for these quotas and failing to comply will lead to their admissions being cancelled. Meanwhile, Jesus and Mary College has announced its ECA criteria.

Delhi University is going to continue with 5% course-wise reservation of the seats in all colleges for wards of Kashmiri migrants. Kashmiri students from outside Delhi and Jammu will also be eligible to apply under the quota.

The 5% quota for children of Kashmiri migrants is supernumerary, implying that this percentage of seats will be over and above the existing seat matrix.

The University has released certain guidelines for students applying under this category:

  1. Wards of Kashmiri migrants who wish to be considered for admission under this category must register online, as per the schedule released by the university.
  2. Candidates must upload a certificate of registration as Kashmiri migrant issued by the Divisional Commissioner/ Relief Commissioner, along with proof of property in Kashmir, and proof of current residence along with their applications, apart from the other regular documents.
  3. A maximum concession of 10% in the last cut-off mark fixed for the General Category will be extended to wards of Kashmiri migrants. This reservation is not applicable for courses requiring an entrance test.
  4. Admission of wards of Kashmiri migrants will be based on cut-offs announced by the colleges.

In the coming fortnight, nearly 40,000 students will prepare for one entrance exam that will change their lives forever- the Joint Admission Test. And surely, guidance offered from first-hand experience is what all students need right now.

Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies is extremely proud to launch the Admission Campaign 2016 for the Joint Admission Test.

In the coming days, a group of students from the college will be helping the aspirants prepare for the most important day of their life through the following initiatives:

1. Question of the Day

One question from each of the four sections will be posted daily to help the students get a sense of the JAT beforehand:
1. Quantitative Ability
2. Reasoning and Analytical Ability
3. General English
4. Business and General Awareness

2. AskCBSites

Having gone through the admission process themselves, the CBSites know a trick or two when it comes to finishing in the top percentile. Therefore, 4 CBSites will be taking up doubts and queries to help streamline the aspirants’ preparations and giving them wisdom gained from first-hand experience.

3. GD/PI Mentor

The subsequent GD/PI rounds after the JAT matter a lot because of their weightage. And since preparation for this is not entirely possible through a mock round, a bunch of students will be giving expert tips and suggestions to help aspirants ace this round.

You can watch the campaign outline here.

So, all aspirants are requested to stay tuned to the SSCBS page for updates and material: https://m.facebook.com/SSCBS.DU/

Delhi University had launched online admissions for six undergraduate entrance-based courses on May 13, and started online applications for merit-based courses on June 1. The response to both applications has been overwhelming.

More than 30,900 applicants had successfully registered through DU’s online portal within the first six hours of the launch of the portal on June 1 for merit-based admissions. Of the 30,900 registered, 5600 had completed the entire registration process along with the online payment of the registration fees. This year, the admission fee for colleges will also be paid online, making the admissions process entirely digital for the first time.

Registration for entrance-based undergraduation courses ended on May 31 with a total of more than 54,000 applicants. The female applicants outweighed the applicants of other categories, with more than 30,000 of them, as compared to around 24,000 male applicants and 4 of the ‘Other’ gender. Among the offered courses, B.A (H) Business Economics and BBA emerged as the top choice with nearly 23,000 applications. The second rank course, B.El.Ed, received around 10,800 applications.

B. Online registration fee for admission to UG Courses (2016-17)

The registration fee for the UG form is to be paid online. It is significant to note that a candidate’s application submission process shall be completed only after payment of the online registration fee. The fee structure for online registration for different categories are as given below:

The varsity has made it clear that if any false attestation / falsified records are detected, the student will be debarred from attending any course in the University / or its Colleges for next five years and in addition, a criminal case under relevant sections of IPC will be instituted against him/her.

III. Eligibility criteria for various courses:

The most important question that arises while taking admission in DU is the confusion and ambiguity of whether a student is actually eligible for the course of his/her choice. The university thus, like each year, has come up with a comprehensive list of eligibility criteria for various courses across the three streams of Arts, Commerce and Science.

You can take a look at the UG Bulletin of Information for more insight about the eligibility criteria here.

III. The Admission Process after release of first cut-off

An aspiring DU student must keep a regular check on the university website and the website(s) of the college(s) of the candidate’s choice. As per the varsity, the First Cut-Off list will be released on 27th June, 2016, therefore, a candidate must keep a tab on the DU website around the same date.

It must be kept in mind that the announcement of cut-off lists for all courses/categories (UR/OBC/SC/ST/PwD/KM) will be made through University website. Once the cut-off list is released, the candidates who meet the requisite cut-off will have to login to the UG admission portal and select the college/course where the candidate wishes to take admission and check whether he or she meets the desired cut-off criterion.

Once the candidate meets the cut-off and the rest of the criteria for the specific course he/she wants to pursue, the aspirant will have to take the print out of the admission form and together with the list of documents (as mentioned above) proceed to the respective college for verification of mark sheet, calculation of cut-off percentage depending on the course and verification of other documents. The schedule for verification of documents in the colleges is as given below:
