A Delhi University graduate got elected for the position of vice president at the International Association of Physics Students.
Anant Singh, a BSc Physics graduate from Rajdhani College, Delhi University, has been elected Vice President of the International Association of Physics Students (IAPS) for the 2026-2027 tenure. He is the first-ever Indian to get an executive position in IAPS’s history.
The International Association of Physics Students (IAPS) is a non-profit, global organization which represents physics students from around the world. It was founded in 1987 with the aim of fostering global collaboration, mutual understanding, and academic exchange among university students pursuing physics or related courses. IAPS is affiliated with major physical societies such as the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics (IUPAP) and the European Physical Society (EPS). The IAPS holds multiple events, such as its annual flagship multi-day conference known as the International Conference of Physics Students (ICPS), and international theoretical physics competitions for undergraduate and postgraduate students known as PLANCKS.
During Anant’s time at DU, he founded the Indian Network of Physics Students (INPS) and organized landmark events like AESCAP. He went on to earn a full Caltech SURF fellowship and is currently pursuing his Master’s at Université Paris Cité on a SMARTS-UP scholarship. He also spearheaded India’s successful bid to host the International Conference of Physics Students (ICPS) 2028 in Delhi, beating competitive bids from Italy and Spain.
As Singh takes the role of Vice President at the organization, it marks a monumental milestone for Indian representation in global student governance, as he has become the first-ever Indian student to hold such a position at IAPS. His achievement will help bring in valuable conferences to the country for STEM undergraduates and postgraduates, acting as powerful inspiration for students and amplifying opportunities across the country and Delhi University. His tenure is also set to coincide with India hosting ICPS 2028 in Delhi, bringing an international physics student conference to the country.
