This winter, ensure you have a healthy skin by following these morning routines!

Who doesn’t love a healthy and glowing skin? While the cosmetic industry has tarnished the idea of a good skin by incorporating the ideals of our complexion to be white or light, a healthy skin, on the contrary means to have a well hydrated skin with an even texture, to prevent environmental damage. It is pivotal to look after our skin, especially in this day and age with the growing concerns of pollution.

Here are some of the morning rituals one should observe and try on a daily basis, to make your skin more immune and susceptible to the changing weathers.

  • The blissful union of honey, lemon and water

It is one of the most common and easily prepared things, and you should definitely start your day with it. Drinking honey and lemon mixed in hot water kick starts your metabolism and ensures all the toxins are flushed out of your system. Lemon has oil controlling qualities and hence aids in removing the excess oil from the skin’s surface. It is a good drink to improve your immunity as well.

  • Lemon Tea

A slight variant of the above concoction, this drink is divine in taste and purpose. It gives you the Vitamin C kick in the morning. Try adding honey instead of the sugar in the tea to ensure you have a healthy sweet variant in the morning.

  • Curd and Honey

It is a healthy and fulfilling snack in the morning. It is a perfect and ultra tasty combination to achieving a healthy skin. The two provide exfoliating properties that give you a glowing skin and an even texture.

  • Enjoy the season’s fruits and vegetables to the finest

Indulge in carrot and orange juices, eat them fresh or simply take them as your go to meal. The more natural intake is increased, the better the toxins will drain down the system. Besides, having juice in the morning really wakes you up and tries to put the jump into your blanket and sleep state of mind at par!

  • Goodbye to chapped lips with Mustard oil

While this sidelines more as a night time ritual, but applying mustard oil on the belly button or navel is a good way to ensure waking up to a moisturized skin. It is a great way to prevent the constant chapping of lips. The navel is the most important part of the body, being the meeting point of a lot of nerves. Massaging the belly button with mustard oil, hence is a great way to ensure you take care of the nervous system as well!

  • Saffron Tea

Winters are not complete without enjoying the luxury of saffron. This expensive spice imparts exceptional benefits for the skin owing to its anti-bacterial properties. It aids acne prone and dry skin and daily consumption of saffron tea ensures a glowing skin as well!

Another variant of this ritual is drinking hot saffron and turmeric milk before bed every night.

  • A good diet!

It is everything that happens in the internal which reflects on the external. While face packs and cosmetic products remove the exterior problem, the roots stay unaffected. The key to a good and healthy skin is a good diet. Consume a lot of fiber, in the form of fruits and vegetables, have sufficient water and eat fatty foods or junk in a controlled amount. A conscious effort towards skin care is pivotal!

  • Ensure proper exercise

Sitting in the house or simply working all day long is not an ideal lifestyle. We all need some work out activity from time to time. All of us have extremely busy lives, but even sparing a mere thirty minutes to health and fitness in a day proves sufficient. A morning session of running, jogging or even yoga is a good step to ensuring your path to fitness.

  • Identify your skin type what suits your skin best

Use moisturizing and skin care products which really suit your skin. Depending on your skin type, it’s essential to invest in skin care which really suits your skin the best.

Almond oil works as a good toner and moisturizes the skin. You can use that or almond based products, if it suits your skin.

  • Stay hydrated

Winters don’t really entice us to drink gallons of water, however, staying sufficiently hydrated is a must. Water is a key essential and helps in increasing energy, regulating complexion and flushing out toxins. It also helps in boosting the immune system.

Hence, these winters, stay protected and give your skin the best treatment ever!

Winter had been knocking at our door for a while, and is finally here. But it does not have to be synonymous to dull and boring. Winter photography could actually bless your Instagram feed.

Here are five winter essentials when it comes to photography:

1.Bonfire: There is hardly anything as comforting as a bonfire. What’s more? They serve as great pictures, both in the background, or as the star of the frame.

2.Peanuts: While a Starbucks does look good in pictures, we should not forget the snack that has been keeping us warm and occupied for the longest of times. Peanuts deserve to be featured in your pictures.

3.Sun-basking in the terrace: Sardi ki dhoop has had honorary mentions in Bollywood. It would be a shame if we let go of the tradition.

Delhi Winters fall right in the middle of a spectrum from my perspective, with just the right amount of cold for it to actually feel like winters. Comparing it with two other places I call home currently, it definitely feels like a blessing in disguise.

The month of November comes with an extra nip in the air, almost asking you to grab your light sweatshirts. It slowly gives way to a certain significant drop in temperature, which only moves on to a rather blissful three months, which constitute the best part of the year. You know winters are here when waking up in the mornings seem like a gargantuan task. The burrito of blankets might just be home for the next coming months.

The rest of the nine months in Delhi can really prove to be testing, especially during daytime when the sun is at its peak, sucking all your energy and pushing you towards exhaustion. Getting out of an air-conditioned environment might seem equivalent to entering the seventh circle of hell. Delhi winters, therefore, are a welcome respite from the heat, and one that is looked forward to by all the Delhites.

Now from a perspective of a person who hasn’t really experienced these kinds of winters all their life, it might seem like something entirely else. I, personally, juggle between three parts of the country, all having varying degrees of cold, with Delhi right at the middle of the spectrum. The Pune winters don’t seem like winters to begin with. One hardly senses a change in the weather and can easily forget that it’s December. It is pleasantly chilly during nights, but nothing that would make you run towards your bed and wrap yourself in four layers of blankets. Another extreme side of the spectrum, for me, becomes the icy cold Ladakh winters, with the frigid winds blowing in every direction, the temperature dropping well below zero. Any part of your body that remains uncovered (including your face) is bound to get numb. You really can’t feel it. If you thought the Delhi winters were a living hell, you really might want to change your opinion by this point.

I would rather not talk about what each place is symbolic for me but if I were to talk about winters, there is no place like Delhi. The soul-thawing kulhad waali chai might become your elixir in the coming months. Exploring the by-lanes of Chandni Chowk might also be a good idea right now.

There is certainly something extremely magical about Delhi Winters that never fails to charm you into loving it.

As you read this, take in a deep breath. So, what is that weird irritation in your throat? You hit the bull’s eye if you guessed smog or pollution.

Yes, it is that time of the year again. Suffocating air, watering eyes, irritated skin, and agitated temperament. “Nevertheless, he walked into a Gas Chamber”, was said for the Holocaust but the statement holds true even for an individual who relocated to Delhi. The national capital ranks amongst the Premier Polluted Cities in the world. It feels like the Air Quality Index (AQI) meter is determined to achieve higher figures, on almost a daily basis. With the entire city reeling under hideous air pollution, which is bound to translate into SMOG in the upcoming days of frosty winter, we jot down this article to fetch you STUDENT FRIENDLY ways of coping with smog.

It seems like Mother Nature had foreseen this day and we as university students cannot ignore our constant lack of funds. To beat the stuffy smog, we suggest a few naturally available eatables, that aid the fight with smog.

  1. Broccoli

I am terribly sorry to have played with your feelings right in the first suggestion. But then, it is better to be “safe” than “sorry”. Without boring you by getting into technicalities, let us get straight to the point- Broccoli is good at restricting the flow of toxins and pollutants inside the body, according to studies and researches. So, the next time you see Broccoli on a pizza, devour it gracefully.

  1. Ginger

This is one thing the consumption of which is in itself a paradox. We love it in our cup of Chai, but hate to bite into it, solely because of its bitter taste. Chai lovers are going to love me after they read what I write next. Ginger Helps In Dealing Effectively with Smog. Now that I have given you a reason to get drunk on Chai, you may enjoy a guilt-free series of chai cups. ENJOY!

  1. Citrus Fruit

Citrus is another food division which, if included adequately into your diet, can give stupendous results in terms of protection from Smog. Citrus fruit is a renowned guardian of lung health. So get ready to gorge on juicy oranges, or chug that delicious fruit juice from the citrus family of fruits.

  1. Foods rich in Magnesium

Remember the time when your parents included hoards of dry-fruits in your “food wala bag” while you were about to leave? It is high time that you finally get to eating those nuts, for it has been observed that Magnesium rich foods (essentially dry-fruits) are helpful in aiding your lungs to cope with strain caused as a result of excessive air pollution.

  1. Water

I know it may not sound like a very good idea given the fact that it is the Winter season, but drinking water is the best thing you can do to your body in this particular period. That does mean some additional trips to the washroom, but if it helps improve your lung and skin health, it is totally worth it. In this special scheme, you get the added benefit of flawless skin.  Now that’s a win-win situation right there.

However, apart from this, buying masks and adorning your faces with them is always an option. However, not only will that be heavy on your pocket, but you also get to take relatively few selfies for Instagram and Snapchat with hashtags like #SMOG #DELHI #Pollutionindelhi etc.
