Delhi Chief Minister, Rekha Gupta inaugurated three new academic facilities at Daulat Ram College, her alma mater, and spoke about skill-based education and women’s safety.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta inaugurated the Centenary Academic Building, Computer Centre and Skill Development Centre at Daulat Ram College, University of Delhi, on October 27, 2026.

The visit was a homecoming for Gupta, an alumna of the college who previously served as the general secretary of its Students’ Union. Reflecting on her journey from student politics to becoming Chief Minister, she credited the institution with playing an important role in her growth, describing it as a journey “from backbencher to Chief Minister”.

Gupta also spoke about the importance of skill-based education, stressing that academic qualifications must be accompanied by practical and technical skills to help students become self-reliant. The new Computer Centre, equipped with around 100 computers, and the Skill Development Centre are intended to support this focus on practical learning.

During her visit, she toured several campus facilities, including the library, seminar room, Faculty Reading Room, recycling unit and bakery unit. She also discussed the need to renovate the college auditorium and assured the institution of her support.

The programme featured the launch of the ‘Miss DRC Talent Hunt’, encouraging students to explore their interests and showcase their talents. Members of the college’s Mahila Vikas Samiti also demonstrated self-defence techniques.

Speaking about women’s safety, Gupta said that women should be able to pursue their ambitions without fear. “Every girl in Delhi should move forward fearlessly; the Delhi Government stands with her to protect her safety and support her dreams,” she said. She added that women’s safety could not be treated as women’s responsibility alone and called for a change in social attitudes towards gender.

Gupta also announced plans to install one lakh smart streetlights and 50,000 CCTV cameras across Delhi. The proposed streetlights would connect to a central monitoring system to identify faults and enable timely repairs.

Delhi University Vice-Chancellor Yogesh Singh, Daulat Ram College Principal Savita Roy, Governing Body Chairman Mukul Gupta, faculty members, and students attended the event.
