After all, with sucesses like Mary Kom, Pan Singh Tomar and Bhaag Milkha Bhaag they have found new gold in biopics. Plus they are worth the viewer’s time and money and good for the box office. Here are a few biopics releasing this year that deserve your attention.
Neerja
director: Ram Madhvani

Cast: Sonam Kapoor, Shabana Azmi, Uday Chopra, Shekhar Ravjiani
Plot: The film revolves around how Neerja Bhanot, a flight attendant for a Pan Am Flight Number 73 was murdered while saving the lives of more than 300 passengers on board when the plane was hijacked in Karachi. Directed by Ram Madhvani who has worked in films like Taare Zameen Par and is an award winning director. The film looks promising, as can be said from the gripping trailer.
Dhoni: The Untold Story

Cast: Sushant Singh Rajput, Kiara Advani, John Abraham, Fawad Khan, Ram Charan
Plot: The film revolves around the life of Indian cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni who will be played by Sushant Singh Rajput. Directed by award winning director Neeraj Pandey who has titles like A Wednesday, Special 26 and Baby under his arm and since it is based on the life of Dhoni, we can definitely expect a lot from this film.
Dangal
Director: Nitesh Tiwari

Cast: Aamir Khan, Sakshi Tanwarand Raj Kumar Yadav
Plot: Dangal follows the lives of Mahavir Singh Phogat and his daughters Babita Kumari and Geeta Phogat. Mahavir taught them wrestling and they both went on to win at the 2010 Commonwealth Games. From the director of Chillar Party together with Aamir Khan an Disney India productions, this is definitely one of the most anticipated.
ALIGARH
Director: Hansal Mehta
Expected date of release: 26th February 2016
Cast: Manoj Bajpai, Raj Kumar Yadav
Plot: Aligarh is based on the story of Dr. Shrinivas Ramchandra Siras, a professor of Marathi at the Aligarh Muslim University who was suspended because of his sexual orientaion. Even though he successfully appealed his suspension he later died in mysterious circumstances.
AZHAR
Director: Anthony D’Souza
Expected Date of Release: 13th May 2016
Cast: Emraan Hashmi, Prachi Desai, Huma Qureshi
Plot: This sports biopic is based on the scandalous and glorious life of the Indian international cricketer Mohammad Azharuddin who was involved in a match fixing scandal in 2000. With films like Boss and Blue under his belt, we have yet to see a better film by D’Souza. Though, It is been speculated that Emraan has acted so well in the film, that Azharuddin himself in an interview commented, “Once Emraan does this film, people will start calling him Azhar. ”
