<![CDATA[The Department of Management Studies, Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College held the 6th edition of its annual management conference 'Ecclesia' on Friday, 6th February, 2015, at the Silver Oak Hall at the India Habitat Centre. The inaugural session began at 10:00 am, with students of the department along with professors and guests from various colleges in the audience. After the lighting of the lamp, Dr. S.K. Garg, the Principal of the college talked about the accomplishments of the department and highlighted milestones of DDUC in its 25 years of existence. The introductory remarks were then made by the Convenor of the department, Dr. Nisha Rana. The Chief Guest for the event was Piyush Goyal, the Hon'ble Minister of State with Independent Charge for Power, Coal and New and Renewable Energy. He began his address by talking briefly about the other panelists present. He talked about his ‘connection’ with Pandit Deen Dayal, after whom the college has been named, and how his ideology was ahead of his time. He spoke of the need for holistic development, of which economic prosperity was just one aspect. “The bane of India is when her officials, her corporate executives and her teachers do not work honestly”, he said. Following him, Inder Mohan Kapahi, member of the University Grants Commission and an academician, talked about how the country is an “ancient civilisation with a young population” and the expected progress in education till 2020. Vivek Khanna, a DU alumnus and current CEO of HT Media Ventures, spoke about the differences between student life now, and the way it was back when he was doing his under graduation and post graduation. He then talked about the most prevalent challenges today, like uncertainty and government policy and regulation. The following session focused on entrepreneurship with Ajay Chaturvedi from HarVa and Mani Dev from Smartican (both of which are start ups) talked about their experiences starting their own businesses. Post lunch, professors and students from various colleges presented their research papers on topics like risk reduction, non-performing assets, synergy during mergers and acquisitions and so on.
