<![CDATA[Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College, which is completing its 25th year in this academic session is an off campus college in the Delhi University. It’s well known for its science courses and is one of the only three colleges in DU offering an undergraduate course in Management. The college is nestled in a relatively unusual place for an educational institute, smack in the middle of a residential area. Being an off campus college it lacks the hustle bustle that comes with having more colleges in the same area. However, connectivity is not an issue at all since it is walking distance from the nearest metro station (Moti Nagar, Blue Line) and well connected by the bus routes too. The first thing you notice about the college is the new (academic) Block which is right in front of the gate. Next to it is the lawn area (which doubles up as somewhat of a picnic ground in the winters) and front stage. Beyond that is the Old Block, canteen and the Barracks; with the statue of Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya in front. While the New Block’s infrastructure is fairly up to the mark, the Old Block and Barracks can definitely be improved. The college’s infrastructural problems will soon be addressed in its new campus, which is currently under construction in Dwarka, right next to NSIT. Being an off campus college, one might think that there’s a dearth of places for the students to hang out at after the classes are done with. Though we might not be spoiled for choice like our counterparts in the North and South campuses, there are a couple of good options around. There are multiple small shops around the college, with one particularly popular one called ‘Banta point’. You can always find students there, drinking banta, accompanied by a samosa or two, while chatting up a storm. Moments Mall is walking distance from the college and has a good variety of outlets at the Food Court - everything from Nizam’s to Subway! Coming to the faculty and administration, I’d like to mention that our Principal Dr. S K Garg is very articulate and has a balanced point of view on most matters. Also, the members of the faculty go above and beyond the usual and are very dedicated to their work. You won’t find too many cancelled classes and lectures in DDUC! This translates into better academic performance by the students, with many University rank holders from the college. Talking about the other aspects of college life, most active societies and clubs in the college are relatively recent. There’s a lot of scope to learn here since students play an active role in building them from scratch, as opposed to merely joining a society that is has all the functions and operations worked out already. Another plus point is that there isn’t cut throat competition for the clubs, and enthusiasm is given a lot of importance. Ideas from students are usually well received by the teachers, too. Lastly, there is a small but determined group of students in the college who’re working very hard to ensure that DDUC makes a mark in the University. It’s interesting to see what shape their efforts will take in the future. ]]>
