<![CDATA[Sanitation Solutions, an initiative by Enactus Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies (SSCBS), started off in 2009. The project had a simple goal; to create awareness among women in Delhi’s urban slums about hygiene and health duration menstruation cycles. The team identified a number of women during these sessions who came across as entrepreneurial in nature. They then procured sanitary napkins from suppliers and supplied them to these entrepreneurs, who in turn sold them to women in and around their area at marginal profits. Thus a cycle was established, one that created entrepreneurs and benefitted numerous women. After having completed the Delhi phase of their project last year, the team further expanded to 5 more states including Orissa and Rajasthan. This project, straightforward in its idea and implementation touched an all new height this February, as the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India, has shown interest in and support towards Sanitation Solutions. The Ministry has allotted the project 22 districts in 19 states and 1 union territory, under which the team will provide training sessions to the staff members working under the Ministry at the district level. The first training session is scheduled to be held in March this year, in Jodhpur where a congregation of the staff members will be held. Having provided such sessions to various NGOs in the past, as part of their expansion initiatives, the training material and pattern will be largely the same. Upon the successful completion of training at the given number of districts, the Ministry will allot 22 more districts to the team, thus expanding the project even further. With this step, the project will be de linked from the society and start running and functioning on its own. This collaboration was the outcome of the team’s effort and discussion between the two parties which started around October last year. ‘This is probably the biggest achievement that Enactus SSCBS has seen so far. De linking a project on such a scale is hard to imagine! This has been possible solely due to the combined efforts of the alumni, team members and the college’, said Vatsal Khullar the President of the college’s Enactus chapter.
