Delhi University’s Hindi department withdrew its notification of interviews of PhD admissions scheduled for October 28, 2026, as ABVP and DUSU protested over short notice and lack of transparency in admissions.
The Hindi Department has withdrawn the interview schedule from October 28 to November 2, 2026, until further orders, after releasing it earlier on October 27, 2026. This comes as the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and the Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) staged a protest outside the Hindi department against the short notice given to candidates and the alleged denial of proper opportunities to several candidates to appear for the interview. As a result of this, the department was unable to conduct the interviews.
The students demanded a fair and transparent admission process, stating that the department has more than 150 PhD seats, yet adequate opportunities were not given to candidates to appear for the interview.
The interview was scheduled for October 28, and the Department of Hindi issued a notification on the evening of October 27, asking shortlisted candidates to report for interviews at 9:15am on October 28, giving candidates from other states less than a day to reach Delhi and prepare for the interview.
In addition to this, ABVP and DUSU also raised questions regarding the number of people called for PhD admission interviews, alleging that the candidates who had qualified for the National Eligibility Test and those applying under the “Only for PhD category” did not receive adequate opportunities; this was also raised by the secretary of ABVP’s DU wing, Akshay Pratap Singh. The students questioned the lack of candidates called for the interview round if the department had more than 150 seats and demanded that everyone get a fair opportunity to participate in the admission process. Additionally, Yash Dabas accused the department of favouritism and giving priority to certain candidates. Moreover, they demanded sufficient time between the release of the shortlisted candidates’ list and the interview schedule.
The department has not yet announced a revised timetable or clarified if the shortlisting of candidates will change. The students are advised to wait for further instructions from the department regarding the next step for admissions.
