A Doctoral student earlier from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) was repeatedly accused of harassment and predatory behaviour by women from Delhi University (DU).
Aman Sinha, who goes by the name @allegedantinational on Instagram, is a doctoral student from JNU . He presents himself as an intellectual, a champion for women rights, and a voice of the ‘progressive revolution’. However, many women have come out on social media and shared a rather different and disturbing tale with numerous accusations of sexual harassment, stalking, manipulation, and unwanted sexual advances.

A previous report published by DU Beat on 3rd February 2019 also reported on several statements against Sinha accusing him of sexual misconduct. A statement was also released last year by the Women’s Development Cell (WDC) of Miranda House, which called him “a sexist man who unapologetically indulges in harassment of women.” Sinha was also expelled from the All India Students’ Association (AISA), a left-wing student organisation, and was asked by Pinjra Tod, a women students’ organisation committed to the struggle against patriarchy and oppression, to stay away from their protests, supposedly due to several members being uncomfortable with his presence.

Reportedly, despite being called out for his harassment and predatory behaviour, Sinha continues to prey on women. Describing a meeting with Aman, a woman who chose to remain anonymous, stated “He’d keep clicking pictures and taking my hand in the middle of a conversation and playing with them. He also kept asking me about my opinion on an open relationship. When I said that I didn’t like it that much he was still trying to persuade me into thinking otherwise”.

A student from the Indraprastha College for Women (IPCW), who chose to remain anonymous, described him, stating “the vibe he has is just very weird and unsettling. I genuinely feel, for him, sexual liberation means sexual availability,” and that “he sent me a link of ‘5 nudes beaches in India’ out of nowhere randomly. It was very creepy and disturbing. I blocked him at the very spot and told my friends to block him as well.” Another woman, Shreya, alleged that Aman approached her at a time when she was vulnerable and going through a problematic stage and made her feel understood and supported while seeming progressive and intellectual. When she felt she had feelings for him, he lied about his relationship, saying he had broken up with his girlfriend and manipulated her into feeling that not being willing to be intimate was ‘regressive’ and that she ‘owed it to him’. He later confessed that he had lied about breaking up but that his girlfriend was comfortable which was also a lie as his girlfriend allegedly was not. She says the experience was traumatic, damaging and that she was unable to take action as she felt helpless with no way of proving the manipulation and found it hard to accept he was predator as it meant her consent was ‘manufactured’.
DU Beat contacted Sinha, and here is what he said about the allegations, “The fabricated insinuations started with the WDC Miranda’s post that had no substantial claims. In spite of no investigation(as was promised) it remained in circulation on WhatsApp groups in colleges across the city even after being deleted from ig; and after the social media trial, the media trial by an RSS page called Opindia and by DU Beat etc led to a widespread assassination of my character. I want to co operate in investigations in this case either by ICC or Delhi Women’s Commission or another organization.”
