Hans Raj College

Hansraj College is the largest constituent college of Delhi University with over 4000 students studying on its campus in various science, commerce and humanities courses. It was founded on July 26, 1948 by the D.A.V group of institutions in the memory of famous teacher and social reformer Mahatma Hans Raj. Initially founded as a boys-only college, it later turned co-educational.

The college is frequently ranked in the top 10 science, arts, commerce colleges in India, by the India Today-Neilson surveys.

Location- The College is located in the North Campus of Delhi University.

 Accessibility- As it is for all other North Campus colleges, the Vishvavidyala metro station on the yellow line remains the most convenient conveyance mode.

The college is especially known for its brilliant science department. It is the second best science college in Delhi. Apart from science, the college’s English department is known to have many of the most senior professors of the DU English department. It is also known for its economics placements, with students being placed in Google, Deloitte, Deutsche Bank, etc.

College facilities

The college has facilities for both outdoor and indoor games. Its students have won University, State and National level sports competitions. It’s the only college to have an electronic shooting range in the entire DU.

The college provides hostel facilities for boys only. It houses all kinds of labs for all requirements. The college auditorium is also one of its attractive features. The seminar room is a regular host to lectures, discussions, etc. The college has an ENABLING UNIT, which addresses the requirements of the differently abled.

Societies

Hansraj College actively promotes extracurricular activities. Its Choreo society “Terpsi Chorean” is said to be one of the best Choreo societies in the country. The debating society also wins laurels in the debating circuit. Apart from these, the college has active dramatics, music, social service, quiz societies.

Annual Fest

The annual fest of the college is called “Confluence”. It attracts a large footfall and several popular names like Palash Sen, R.D.B, have performed.

Hang out points

Out of all north campus colleges, Hansraj remains the closest to Kamla Nagar. With all the MODs, Costa Coffees, McDs, KFCs at a stone’s throw away, Hansraj students need to do little travelling to grab a bite. Also, several book stores selling practically all course and reference books are also in this market, making it the most convenient place for every possible purpose. “Chacha ke chhole bhature” are supposedly very famous, which is also in Kamla nagar.

Admission Procedure

General Category
Admission into Hans Raj College through the general category is based purely on the common form issued by the University, which can be filled both online and offline.

ECA/ Sports category
For admission through ECA and Sports in Hansraj, there is a separate form which needs to be filled up and submitted alongside all relevant certificates. Following this there are trials. After this a list of students selected for ECA/Sports are announced.

LP or Lover’s Point is something that the college is (in)famous for. In reality, it’s just a regular hang out place and not a lover’s paradise, contrary to popular myth.
