Lady Shri Ram College for Women (LSR) faces another infrastructural crisis as a fan blade in the Auditorium fell off during the closing ceremony of the Department of English’s fest.
On 7th October, during the closing ceremony of LITMUS’26, the annual conference of the Department of English, Lady Shri Ram College for Women (LSRCW), a blade from a fan in the Auditorium flew off and fell to the ground, raising concerns regarding the dilapidating infrastructure of the college.
Students from the college reported that they had repeatedly raised concerns regarding the fan in the weeks preceding the incident claiming that it had been making loud and unusual noises. However, there was no action taken.
A student present at the closing ceremony reported that during the closing remarks, a loud bang disrupted the proceedings as one of the fan blades plummeted to the floor near the stage, while the fan continued to spin at a high speed. The incident sparked alarm and panic among the students who claimed that the remaining parts of the fan appeared to be on the verge of dislodging as well.
Consequently, the caretakers were called who immediately took the necessary action and removed the fan within minutes. No injuries were reported.
This marks the second similar occurrence at Lady Shri Ram College for Women (LSR), after a ceiling fan fell in a classroom a few weeks ago. This incident is the latest addition to the growing series of infrastructural failures and negligence across Delhi University such as the partial collapse of a washroom ceiling at Mata Sundari College for Women, University of Delhi and large debris falling at Lakshmibai College, Delhi University,
