The Delhi High Court asked Ankiv Baisoya to disclose the contact details of the person who provided him with the fake degree and mark sheets.
Former Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) President and ABVP leader, Ankiv Baisoya was asked by the Delhi High Court on Thursday, 26 September 2019, to disclose the contact details of the person who provided him with the fake documents. He is facing criminal proceedings for presenting fake graduation degree and mark sheets for taking admission in the University of Delhi (DU).
Justice Suresh Kait asked Baisoya to inform on Friday, 27 September 2019 whether he will disclose the contact details of the individual who provided him with the fake degree and mark sheets, as reported in the Times of India.
The court came up with this query while hearing his plea challenging the decision of a trial court rejecting his application for an anticipatory bail in the case. Baisoya’s appeal is also opposed by the Delhi police as they claimed that he has not cooperated in the investigation and did not furnish contact details of the person who provided him with the fake documents. Police have booked him for alleged offenses of cheating and forgery under Indian Penal Code on a complaint filed by the University of Delhi after the issue of the fake degree was revealed to them. It is necessary to get the details of the people involved in providing fake documents in order to stop such acts in future.
While acquiring admission in the M.A. program in Buddhist Studies course in DU, Baisoya claimed that he had graduated from Tamil Nadu’s Thiruvalluvar University (TU) and submitted mark sheets of the same. He was elected as the DUSU president on 13th September 2018. Soon after the election, Sunny Chillar, NSUI’s Presidential candidate, challenged Baisoya’s election by saying that his graduation degree is fake which makes his nomination void an-initio.
TU denied Baisoya’s claim of graduating from TU by saying that he was neither enrolled in the Varsity nor any of its constituents or affiliated institutions.
Subsequently, Baisoya resigned from his post on November 15, 2018, and was dismissed from ABVP till an inquiry into the allegations is completed. Shakti Singh, the Vice Presidential candidate of ABVP took upon his candidature and remained the President of DUSU for the term 2018-19.
Saimon Farooqui, National Secretary, NSUI, talking about this case said, “It is a regular practise of ABVP to distort the facts and to hide the truth from the people of this country. Ankiv Baisoya has cheated the University and the students of Delhi University and now he’s not revealing the name of those who helped him execute the crime. It is understood that the person involved belongs to BJP allegiance and the ABVP is trying to deceive the judiciary.”
On the ither hand, Monika Chaudhary, National Media Secretary, ABVP, said, “Ankiv is not abvp member now. We have already suspended him from the organisation and we are completely in favour of fair investigation and if he is found to be guilty he must get the competent punishment for whatever he has done.”
