Maybe it’s just us, but there is a sense of romanticism in spending a quiet afternoon alone sipping on a beverage or sampling a dessert, accompanied by a riveting book. LBB finds for you the top ten spots to lose yourself in the words.

Another Fine Day | You can expect retro accessories, exposed white brick walls and a collection of reading materials and board games. Sakley’s the Mountain Café | Nestled in the middle of a hip market, the insides feature fashionably-faded upholstery, use of real barks of tree trunks and a collection of old books; the kind that make you want to take a big whiff. When you look out the window, all you can see are treetops, transporting you to another time and space.

Ivy & Bean | Grab a quiet corner with your book of the week, order a coffee or one of their many snacks, and enjoy the quaint ambience that Ivy & Bean has to offer. They have quirky interiors and wi-fi, so you can send out a quick work e-mail or two as well. An LBB favourite, this one!

Kunzum Travel Café | Tucked away in the lanes of chaotic Hauz Khas village, this café serves as a haunt for anyone amidst travels or simply looking to de-stress. They feature a range of travel and photography books. You can make use of their wi-fi, read, and order a refreshing cuppa. Pay as much as you like; there are no fixed prices.

Barista Lavazza | Even though many see Barista as just another big coffee chain, their partnership with Penguin Books since 2012 gives them an spot on this list. With locations across the city, it’s easy to drop in for coffee and either bring your own book, or choose from a selection of quality Penguin published books.

T’Pot Café | Right around the corner from Sri Aurobindo College in Shivalik is the lovely T’Pot Cafe. From students to families, anyone can come in and enjoy the atmosphere in this casual cafe. Not only are there books and newspapers available, the T’Pot also has board games to offer. As the name suggests, they offer a wide range of teas from some classic masala chai, to a special Avangrove tea.

Café Wanderlust | This café offers the intrepid traveller a place of rest and relaxation. Famous for their hammocks and breakfast platters, Café Wanderlust offers a quiet space in Gurgaon to look through a travel book, flip through a magazine, or finish up your novel. We suggest you try their filling and worldly breakfast platters.

Cha Bar | Cha Bar is one of the quintessential book cafes because, well… it’s connected to the Oxford Bookstore. Providing a retreat from the chaos of CP, Cha Bar gives you a relaxed space to browse a variety of books and peacefully sip a tea or coffee. And if you need anymore inspiration to start a new book, Cha Bar and Oxford Bookstore host a variety of author and literature events.

Café Turtle | Cafe Turtle was created to compliment the Full Circle Bookstore. Aside from the usual coffees and teas, Cafe Turtle offers up a full fledged menu with some delectable vegetarian dishes and desserts for you to enjoy along with your book. The Full Circle Bookstore also hosts a their own publishing service, as well as a massive selection of books for you to browse to your heart’s content.

May Day Cafe and Bookstore | A little off the beaten track, May Day is a charming little cafe come bookstore. Less emphasis is placed on the food and drink, and more on the bookstore. This is a perfect place to not only read, but also discuss culture and politics with the friendly staff. You’ll get the idea when you see the picture of Karl Marx and a sickle and hammer on the wall.
