Asmat NGO stemmed out of a very simple desire — one to make a difference at the grassroot level. Majority of India lives in its villages and the people living there are grappling with multitudes of issues. That was the starting point of their tryst with Soda, a small village in Rajasthan, famous for electing the first female Sarpanch in India with a MBA degree, Chhavi Rajawat.
The NGO was started by students of Lady Shri Ram College and is now being run by students from Delhi University, all with a common passion which is to be the change they wish to see in the world. They conducted their first volunteer program in the summer of 2013 and after three successful programs, they are gearing up for their winter volunteer program, to be held in the month of December.
Over the course of their engagement with the residents of Soda, they have focused on Gender sensitization, Governance sessions with a special focus on the Right to Information Act, Sessions with the women on menstrual hygiene, Pension surveys, Non- academic teaching with the children, Women’s Self Help Groups (SHG’s) and Farmers Surveys To attempt implementing a successful model of Organic Farming. They also work upon street plays and similar initiatives.
