Protests Held Across Colleges of DU Against Fee Hike

Recently, many colleges at DU saw protests against fee hike. Satyawati College increased the fees of all courses by around 100% citing reasons that the college intends to be self reliant in its funding.

Colleges across University of Delhi have seen protests from students regarding the recent hike in fees for the current academic session. The issue has seen protests across different colleges – including Miranda, Pannalal Girdharlal Dayanand Anglo-Vedic College (PGDAV) and more – over the last few weeks, spearheaded by student organisations such as the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP). The protest even saw violence at Satywati College.

Students in Satyawati College received notices that their fees would increase from around Rs. 7000 last year to over Rs. 14000 – an increase of over 100% from the last academic session. The college told its students that it intended to fund its expenses by itself in the future and thus, needed the increased revenue from fees.

The college has increased its fees more than any other college. Ramjas – 1000, Motilal – 800 and Satyawati at 7500! Does the college want to fund all its expenses in just one year by doubling fees for students?

Last year the fees were 7000 approximately and now it’s 145000. This is double and is a very unfair thing for students. So many students study in Satyawati College because they belong to poor and middle class families but due to these fees they are facing problems. Some other colleges have increased fees too but not doubled them. There are low facilities but high fees.
