A graduate from DU has been declared the mastermind of a robbery of gold, silver and diamond jewellery worth 5.5 crore rupees in Paharganj.
According to a report by the Times of India, a University of Delhi (DU) graduate masterminded a jewellery heist in Paharganj. The 28 year old individual and two of his five associates have been arrested, while the other three are still to be caught.
The robbery happened on 31st August, Wednesday when two courier employees were intercepted by men pretending to be police checking civilians. Their accomplices threw chilli powder on the victims and ran away with their jewellery. The stolen goods, worth rupees 5.5 crores have been recovered. The police managed to track the suspects through a PayTM transaction and CCTV footage from Najafgarh. They arrested the culprits in Jaipur after tracking their vehicle.
Shweta Chauhan, Deputy Commissioner of Police (central) told TOI how her team used the PayTM transfer by one of the culprits to a cab driver to find them, “This transaction was analysed and the culprits were identified as residents of Najafgarh. Thereafter, footage from CCTVs of Najafgarh area were checked to identify their vehicle and it was revealed that they had gone to Rajasthan. A team of 20 policemen was sent to Jaipur and three of them were arrested.”
The culprits arrested include 28 year old DU graduate Nagesh Kumar and his accomplices Shivam and Manish, all of whom live in Najafgarh.
