Six months after the Internet saw the auctioning of photographs of Muslim Women on GitHub, it appears that the exponents of the ‘Sulli Deals’ app are back with another version of this derogatory app which runs along the same lines as its predecessor. TW: Islamophobia, Misogyny, Doxxing

The All India Students’ Association (AISA) demanded the ‘immediate arrest of the perpetrators’ behind the creation and operation of the site named ‘Bulli Bai’, an Islamophobic and misogynistic web page on GitHub that victimises and objectifies Muslim women by ‘auctioning off’ unauthorized images from their Twitter profiles. Muslim women journalists, students, social workers and famous personalities with strong social media presence have been the victims of this abominable app that allegedly displays and sells arbitrarily generated pictures of these women calling them ‘deals of the day’.

The news of the ‘Bulli Bai’ app that seems to be a clone of the ‘Sulli Deals’ app, sparked nationwide outrage and drew flak for its blatant violation of the rights of women and marginalized communities. This incident comes just six months after its twin app ‘Sulli Deals’ was taken down from GitHub’s database and slammed for disrupting safe spaces for women from all communities on social media.

In a widely circulated message, AISA condemned the owners of this app and held the Delhi Police and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) accountable for endorsing this operation. They called out the Delhi Police for their ‘inaction’ and failure in taking proper action the first time around, thus prompting the conception of a similar app in less than six months. Long known for being a steadfast proponent of the BJP’s aggressive Hindutva policies, the RSS, which is known for its hardline right-wing approach ideologies, came in their line of fire for allegedly sanctioning the app.

The Sangh has always maintained a clear stance on how they see Muslim women, from the RSS ideologue Savarkar’s justification of the rape of Muslim women in the journey towards establishing a ‘Hindu Rashtra’ to the current idea that ‘Muslim women’ must be killed because they are ‘wombs for terrorists’ and it is an extension of this ideology and hate that we see today,” read the message communicated by AISA.

The report further went on to delineate the backlash received by Muslim women for actively denouncing the passing of the Citizenship Amendment Act and the role of the RSS in purportedly quelling their voice in lieu of their anti-muslim campaign and out of “terror”.

Vehemently deploring the objectionable app, AISA DU President Abhigyan said in a conversation with DU Beat, “This is an outright communal and misogynist attack on Muslim women. BJP has given full impunity to hatemongers, even the perpetrators of the ‘Sulli Deals’ app have not been arrested. AISA stands by the women targeted in this horror show of bigotry”.

The Delhi Police came under attack for their “inefficiency and unwillingness to arrest perpetrators of anti-Muslim hate”. AISA was quick to note the ineptitude of said force for not investigating and taking quick action against the people behind the ‘Bulli Bai’ app which ostensibly is a spawn form of the now blocked ‘Sulli Deals’ app.
