The DU student shot on Sunday night is in critical condition; police authorities have arrested the three perpetrators and are booking them under the offence of Attempt to Murder, with ammunition also being recovered.
On Sunday, 6th of April, the police reported a first-year DU student shot twice by a man and two of his accomplices while he was sitting with his friends near his home in outer Delhi’s Alipur. The incident took place around 10 pm on Sunday night when the father of the victim called the police and reported that his son had been allegedly shot by some men. The police in due process identified the offenders as Vikrant (a.k.a. Himanshu/Nonu), 21, Vikas, 24 and Ashish, 24.
The individual who was shot has been identified as Karan Thapa, 18, a resident of Nehru Enclave who was shot by the perpetrator and his accomplices who disapproved of the individual’s friendship with the alleged perpetrator, Vikrant’s sister. A total of three men have been arrested in the process and the police have also recovered the two pistols which were used to murder the youngster.

A police team that reached the crime spot found that the boy had been taken to Satyawadi Raja Harish Chandra Hospital in Narela, from where he was referred to Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital, where his situation is still serious.
Totalling, the police officer added, “There, police met the teen’s father, who disclosed that his son used to chat with a girl. The girl’s brother apparently objected to this and he along with his two associates attacked the boy. The father claimed the trio had approached his son on a bike and were armed with two pistols. After shooting at his son, the three men fled from the area.”
As per the police, the injured teen wasn’t in a good condition to give a statement; with the other fact that no other eyewitnesses of the incident have popped, the alleged perpetrators have been booked under section 307 of the Indian Penal Code and a case of attempt to murder has been registered against them. A crime and forensics team inspecting the crime scene detained two cartridges of 8mm, one live cartridge of 7.65mm and two misfired ones from the spot.
After the names of the suspects were given to police, several teams were created to arrest them. Information was developed regarding their hideouts and personnel deployed there in civil clothes. Eventually, after multiple raids and traps laid near the hideouts, Vikas Pandey was arrested with one automatic pistol from Alipur. Further inputs were developed and following raids, the other two were also apprehended near Valmiki Chowk.the police officer added while speaking to TOI.
According to a public statement made by Rajeev Ranjan Singh, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP-Outer North District), “During preliminary investigation, it emerged that Thapa used to chat with a girl and knows her for over a year now but her brother, Vikrant, took offence to this and he along with his associates, Vikas Pandey and Ashish, shot multiple times at the victim with a country-made pistol and an automatic pistol and thereafter fled from the spot on a bike.”
As per the authorities, during the interrogation process, Vikrant testified that he shot Thapa with an intention of taking his life.
A motorcycle with the registration number DL3SD 2098 used in the felony was also retrieved from the triad. The police on the other hand have recovered another pistol which appears to be country made from Pandey, and one live ammunition cartridge from Vikrant. Outer Delhi DCP Rajeev Ranjan said police are investigating the matter and trying to nab the accused with the help of CCTV footage, and the police are also questioning the family of the victim.
