Prospective students start an online petition against DU JAT, CLAT, and IIM Indore conducting their entrances on the same day.
CLAT, DU’s Joint Admission Test for management courses and IIM Indore’s entrance, are all scheduled to be conducted on the 7th of September, across more than 24 cities in India.
This announcement comes as a horrifying shock to students who aspire to take more than one of these entrances. Several students have started an online petition demanding the rescheduling of these entrances, such that they do not clash.
I want to give every entrance to be on the safe side. What will happen if I give only one entrance and I do not make the cut? I do not want to go to a local college.says Vijal, an IIM Indore aspirant from Nashik.
However, DU officials have stated that rescheduling of the examinations is unlikely as it would affect the schedule of all undergraduate, postgraduate, and PhD/M.Phil. papers.
The scheduling of these exams in this manner jeopardises a student’s college and career prospects and deprives them of a fair opportunity that previous batched have enjoyed. It is also detrimental to the wellbeing of students, who are already coping with the stress of writing exams during a pandemic.
I’m already scared to write an entrance during times like these. We all know how exam halls are, post the paper, there is a huge, uncontrollable rush, everyone is panicking and pushing.Kian, a DU aspirant expresses his concern
These examinations being held on the same day implies that students have to make a choice between the three entrances. It also implies that if a student opts for a single entrance, and gets affected by COVID 19 prior to the exam, they could be left without a preferred back up.
UPDATE (as of 28/08/2020, 4 PM)
The CLAT 2020 examination date has been postponed to September 28, 2020, after it drew flak from several organisations, students, and educational bodies. The Consortium of National Law Universities, released a notification on August 28, 2020, to reschedule the CLAT 2020 examination. The document reads, “The CLAT 2020 examination for both UG and PG candidates scheduled for 7th September 2020 has been postponed to Monday, the 28th September 2020 from 2 to 4 PM.”
