Bright clothes are no longer cringe-worthy or scary to wear. We guide you on how to ace the brightest hues with uber chic-ness.

There are times when colours haunt you, and what’s more, we all have that one piece of clothing in our wardrobe which was our guilty buy during binge shopping sessions, which has been locked away in the closets, without getting worn, or something which doesn’t make you feel like a confidence machine all throughout.

Here are some tips and tricks to ace your ‘brighties’.

  • Polo T-shirts

Polo t-shirts are a great way to incorporate the daring and rather bright colours which you may have been ever more scared to add in your wardrobes. Also, nothing can go wrong in a polo t-shirt. It is something which looks good on every skin and body type, so don’t shy away in investing in your polos right away.

  • Bright + bright = disaster

If you need to witness a fashion faux pas, it is the delirious combination of a bright top and a silhouette. The best way to go about styling bright colored clothes is to be mellow or have calmer or understated accessories or clothes. A pair of white jeans with a yellow top or a pair of white sneakers with an orange sundress can never go wrong. Be wise to choose the right colour! No one wants to witness a walking highlighter in case you plan on going all bright on.

  • Steer away from neons

While the trend of neons keeps making impromptu comebacks in the fashion scene, stay away from endorsing a yellow or orange neon. Not only is it a killjoy for spending your precious money on it, but it will attract extra attention to your body, and not in the right way.

  • Be ultra-careful in orange decisions

Orange can be the new black yes! While it may not be a complete rockstar for your upper body wear, however, a pair of orange flared trousers can be a perfect new addition to your wardrobe. You can pair it up with tank tops to give a more casual look or to seem more formal, tuck a formal button down and some heels to complete the look. A carrot coloured knee length pleat skirt is also a good option as it gives the perfect vintage vibes. Pair it up with clouts and a braid and walk around the town like a retro bohemian queen. Orange is a dicey colour when it comes to wearing it in the form of tank tops or sleeved tops. One can always look out for graphic tees in this color, as it would have a good combination of colours and help you a great deal to pick out the right trouser or bottom wear for it.

  • Make your winters bright with trench coats

It is a good investment, a warm trench coat and a pair of chic boots. Who said that trench coats are only reserved for the typical winter colours of your blacks and greys or even burgundies. Try out an orange trench coat! Weird! Yes! But something which will look amazing and make you feel like a teen vogue cover girl. A yellow blazer is also an interesting touch-down and equally amusing. It will cheer up your spirits on a gloomy ‘dilli ki thand’ day.

  • Ethnic empire of brightness

One place where you can experiment with bright colours to your heart’s desire is the ethnic wear. Be it a canary yellow kurta or a sunset orange kurti top, it is the one wardrobe essential which not only looks great but is also a must-have. It makes up for something you can wear on a normal college day and also on an auspicious day with sheer andaaz.

So are you ready to be more daring and give your bright friends- yellows and oranges a good chance to up your fashion game?

August and September happen to be the most unpredictable of months in terms of weather. On some days it rains heavily, on others it can be ridiculously hot and humid. How to manage the heat, humidity, rain, and still look good?

  • Choose the right fabric – The best way to look good during unpredictable weather is dressing for comfort. Dressing for comfort, however, does not translate into looking drab. Wear breathable fabrics like cotton and linen, and skip the polyester blends that cling to your skin because of the humidity.
  • Opt for ponytails and buns over open hair – Frizzy and damp are not exactly the best hair looks to go for. Skip the open hair during the month of August, and instead opt for a low bun, the way Meghan Markle does, or make a cheerleader ponytail for a clean look.

  • Prefer midi skirts over minis – this may sound like an unconventional choice, especially since mini-skirts are the seemingly obvious choice during the hotter months. However, the rainy weather means that the outdoor seating in your college and Nescafe huts can be damp at times, which can make mini-skirts the wrong choice. Add to that, midis are back in style, are roomy, comfortable, and allow you to channel your inner Audrey Hepburn!

  • Wear pastel colours – Pastels colours do the job of brightening up your look on the gloomy days and soothing your eyes on the sunny ones. With fall just around the corner, the gentle and earthy tones of peach, orange, and blue reflect the seasonal mood accurately while giving you just the right rush of colour, without making you look like a box of crayons.
  • Skip the loud jewellery – chokers, which might irritate the sensitive skin around your neck, along with chunky bracelets and earrings, should be avoided at all costs. If you are a jewellery enthusiast, minimalistic jewellery in metallic tones should be your choice.
  • Forgo jeans, embrace sundresses and wrap dresses – Jeans are a recipe for discomfort. Pair a gingham dress with comfortable espadrilles and transition from morning to evening hassle free. Wrap dresses are also a cute and comfortable August choice.

The current weather can be unforgiving at times but that should not dampen your sense of style. Wear minimal makeup, keep your hair tied and secure, wear roomy and adorable choices like midis and sundresses, and move around college in comfort and style. The weather should never be an excuse to dress shabbily!

It’s that time of the year again, when it’s too hot for sweaters in the day and too cold for shorts at night. As the mercury makes its trek up and down, the very thought of your winter wardrobe — the starched button-ups, cardigan sweaters, and woolen dresses — makes you start to sweat. But the alternatives — sundresses, shorts, and tank tops don’t seem too appropriate either for the changing weather.

Here is a list of ideas on what to wear in these unpredictable changing weather conditions:

Sunny

Skirts in this weather are tricky, in that you need to pair it with something heavy in terms of rest of your outfit. A colorful, lightweight jacket would bring a little quirk to the skirt. You can wear them with bold accessories and comfortable sneakers.

Arid

When it’s hot but not humid, you won’t be sweating as much as you would have in humid weather, so a thick weight dress can definitely work.

Rainy

Showers in the changing weather are one of the hardest things to dress for, but it’s not totally impossible to be on-trend and waterproof. You can try cropped pants and loose blouses. Coupling both with a printed umbrella will give the dull day a dose of sunshine, while some sneakers will keep your feet dry.

Overcast

When it’s warm (but not quite sweltering), you can wear a mid-length printed dress with a denim jacket in the morning, then swap it for a tailored blazer in the evening, and finally finish off the day in a leather jacket.

Windy

When you notice that your sleeveless shift dress just doesn’t seem befitting for the windy and slightly cool weather, a casual crewneck sweatshirt plays down the debonair combination of a short-hemmed skirt and heels elegantly.

This year’s fest season has started with a bang, and LSR’s Tarang, JMC’s Montage, and Miranda House’s Tempest have already raised the bar high for other fests to follow.

The coming fests are expected to be greater than ever, but can we say that about our fashion sense? If not, here’s a guide to help you bring the house down, wherever you go.

  1. Lush Life: This look is for the easy-going girls who are part-chic and part-hep. Pair black pants with a crossed blouse and block sandals and you’re ready to go. To add an extra flair of chic, wear pastel earrings, and a bold lip colour. If your outfit seems bland, by any chance, adding a pop of colour with a bag will surely be the icing on your cake. LushLife
  2. Back to Black: If this year’s Golden Globes taught us anything, it is that there’s nothing called too much black. If black is your aesthetic, consider this look tailor-made for you. In this look, we matched a Bardot top with ripped denim and ankle boots. Throw on an oblong scarf to take your look to the next level. Black is the new black, now and forever.Back to Black
  3. La Vie En Rose: This next outfit is a combination of numerous trends. Beginning with the trend of ‘slogan tees’, make a political statement at this year’s fest. Reclaim the chokers and pair them with white sneakers. It’s no denying that chokers and white sneakers were the biggest trends in 2017; almost every girl has them! An outfit like this is the perfect combination of sexy and comfort. LaVieEnRose
  4. Blue Jeans: The staple of any person’s wardrobe is blue jeans. Sometimes, it seems unbelievable how soviets spent their savings on getting a simple pair of denim jeans! Pairing your favourite denim with a crushed velvet top will make you look expensive. Don’t forget to accessorise with complementary coloured earrings.BlueJeans
  5. Mother Earth:  If you’re not a fan of bright colours, then earthy colours are your best bet. You can be in your comfort zone without stripping yourself of any colour. Overalls are a great option for fests. Pair them with your converse shoes, a maroon lip colour, your college bag and you are all set to go. Mother Earth

Pro-Tip: The key to dressing well for a fest is to take your everyday college look and to turn it around. Avoid wearing particularly uncomfortable pieces of clothing and just walk like you own the world!

In a world where every piece of plastic ever produced still lies somewhere in the garbage dumps, the stomachs of unaware animals, or in our oceans, where it  chokes aquatic life, fabrics like polyester and nylon only add to the degradation of the environment. Polyester and nylon, which constitute 60% of the textile fabrics produced, are called micro plastic and add to the non-biodegradable waste. India has taken a step ahead and roads are now being constructed by using plastic waste. So let us do our bit and take a step forward by changing our standards of fashion. Here are the best 5 eco-friendly fabrics to switch to:

Organic Cotton

Unlike normal cotton, organic cotton uses less water and no pesticides during its harvest. Also, since the farmers have to incur less cost due to minimal inputs, it does not cost as much as popular notions would have you believe. It feels the same as normal cotton and also helps us do our bit in contributing to sustainable living. You can find t-shirts, kurtis, dresses, and comfortable airy pants of various brands, both online and offline. Linen Produced from the fibres of flax plant, linen allows your skin to perspire during those warm days and keeps you cool. The clothes last long because the fibre is strong and the fabric is biodegradable. Linen shirts, pants and dresses give you the chic-casual look and gives you the breezy vibe. Just the perfect clothing you need on a long day of work/college.

Hemp

It is one of most environment-friendly fabrics available, which is also resistant to pesticides or chemical fertilisers. It requires very little water for its growth. Save water, save earth; remember? It is also very durable, only demanding a bit more of your time and attention in terms of maintenance. However, it makes up for it with the variety of outfits which you can choose from: those breezy dresses, pants, scarves socks and much more.

Bamboo

Clothes made from bamboo fibre are grown without any pesticides and the bamboo plant takes merely 9 months to grow requiring an all natural environment. Thus, the fibre turns out to be soft and the clothes smooth on your skin. Yoga pants for women, shirts, socks and much more are made from bamboo yarn.

These clothes may be more expensive than your normal jeans and tees, but changing  habits is for the good for the environment and our animals.

All of these fabrics last longer than the cheap clothes which you wear only 4-5 times before throwing them out. Instead, the next time you come across clothes that you no longer require, donate them to the neighbourhood’s underprivileged children, or your maid. You can even donate to your respective colleges’ NSS wings or Enactus as they are constantly in touch with various NGOs. Let us change the way in which we deal with our waste or purchase and save our Earth.

There is something that makes one stand apart by using the art of minimalism in everyday fashion. Auburn decodes the mystery behind staying minimal and yet not looking boring.

Usually, in an attempt to look different, people make the fashion faux pas of doing too much – wearing too many prints, donning too many colours, or mixing too many styles. The art of minimalism in fashion is easy and effortless (especially once you get the hang of it) and has the aesthetics of what is called ‘impersonal austerity’. Here are some tips to remember while curating a minimalistic wardrobe:

  • Colour: People generally think that whites, blacks, and greys make a minimalistic outfit, but don’t be afraid to experiment with colours. The trick is to use colours from the same palette and/or with the same undertones.
  • Print: Minimalistic fashion usually has subtle print patterns, also called ‘non-emotive design’, which have geometric elements in the design, such as lines and linear shapes. One can never go wrong with stripes, plaid, and even floral. These designs can easily be paired with the other items in your closet.
  • Fit: This is the most important aspect of putting together a minimalistic outfit. Unlike other forms of style, this does not have extra elements to distract from a lousy fit. A simple piece, such as a white t-shirt, can look a hundred times better with the right fitting. So, spend some extra time in the dressing room figuring out which is the best fit for you.
  • Accessories: A simple wardrobe doesn’t only mean simple clothes; accessories add an elegant and delicate touch to the overall look. Also, having the right bling can do wonders. Look for dainty necklaces, bracelets, rings, and sunglasses in a neat finish for that extra oomph factor.
  • Buy: To curate a minimalistic wardrobe, one needs to know where to curate from. The Basics section in Forever 21 and H&M are staples; their leggings, tees, blouses, and camisoles are a must have in one’s everyday wardrobe.

Incorporating minimalistic elements in everyday fashion makes one look effortless and casual, and draws attention in the best possible way. There is, however, a fine line between simplicity and not trying. The skill of using the art of minimalistic fashion is said to be achieved when it is possible to balance both sides. As they say, “Less is more.”

Freshers’ Edition

Now that the Freshers have settled into their classes and gotten accustomed to the routine of college life, they are met with another crisis. But this is strictly a fashion emergency that Auburn is here to solve. The big question, What do I wear for the Freshers’ Party? will be answered here!

You can visibly see first-years running around, trying to find their perfect Freshers’ Party attire. There is the pressure to dress according to the theme, the fear of looking over-dressed and the stress of your Freshers’ being perfect. Well, here’s Auburn with a few tips and tricks that you can follow to make the day a stylish and memorable one!

  • Do it differently: In a room full of dresses, wear a pantsuit to give your outfit a unique touch. Doing it differently doesn’t mean doing something you’re uncomfortable in; just don’t follow the herd to be on the safe side.
  • DIY:You will always stand apart if you wear something that is handmade. Whether it is accessories, or clothes, DIY and show off your creativity. It will give a personal touch to our outfit and when people ask, “Where did you get this from?” – you can smile and tell them!
  • Experiment:College means pushing boundaries and stepping out of your comfort zone, so take that risk! It will be worth it. Experiment with a hair colour, a piece of clothing you’ve always wanted to try, or just do something out of the box!
  • Stick to the theme: It is extremely disrespectful when people don’t follow the theme, so make sure you start prepping your outfit in advance. You can go all out with the theme and dress from head to toe, or be a little subtle with it, but definitely stick to the theme.
  • Take inspiration: Don’t copy entire outfits; create your own by taking inspiration but make it yours. At the end of the day, you’re the one who is going to carry it so make sure to mould it according to your personality and style.
  • Don’t be scared: College is a new ground for everyone, so even if you look over-dressed/ under-dressed amongst everyone, don’t fret over it. Everyone here is figuring out life, this is just a Freshers’ Party outfit!
  • Click pictures: Do not forget to click pictures, with your friends, teachers and in every possible angle of your outfit; you’ll thank your past self for that when you look back at them. Also, save them for inspiration that you can give to your juniors next year!

All in all, make sure that after the Freshers’ Party, you’re a more confident individual; that is all that matters!

From its campus patrols, the DUB Fashion Police identify what you ought to pick and ditch from the fashion racks!

There is a very fine line between following a trend i.e. endorsing something which is in vogue and overdoing fashion i.e. wearing old couture to death. While the common chica very rarely distinguishes between the two, fashion critics are extremely firm about the distinction in their look books: choose to do the former, and you’re a fashionista; whereas the latter would make you a wannabe.

Delhi University is a hotbed for the latest fashion. Yet, most of us end up blindly following trends. To help you stay at the top of your game and not commit any fashion faux pass, we tell you what’s HOT and what’s NOT, this semester!

HOT: Grab it ASAP!

Available (right, left and centre!) in different colours, textures, prints and forms; these can be effortlessly paired with denim shorts, jeans and skirts, palazzos and track pants. 2. The Brogues

Although these now androgynous shoes were all the rage last year, this year too, they are very much in fashion. Not only do they offer comfort, but a surprising quirk to any boring outfit! The authentic ones that come in leather are a must have, since they can be worn in the approaching fall-winter season too!

NOT: Ouch! Our eyes hurt, so please, trash that murdered fashion!

1. The Plaid Shirt

Plaid Shirt

Trendy in the times of yore (and until last year), clothes in the plaid print were so popular that this year, they just seem so passé! If you don’t want to end up looking like the next girl, then ditch the plaid and try stripes instead. A visit to any H&M store will prove how stripes are catching on these days!

2. The Black Choker

Choker

Ariana Grande wore the choker so well that it became a part of every girl’s wardrobe. But this one is like those fashion trends that create a riot so fast, that the charm doesn’t last for long. Also because these are so easily available, try something unique instead.

3. The Wreath

Who doesn’t like looking like a princess? But seriously girls, I wore a flower tiara/ wreath to my Official Freshers’. And I’m in my third year right now. Yes, that is how old this accessory is!
