It is not hard to think of scarves when you think about fall fashion. Not only do they help to gradually ease you into winters, but they also add personality to even the most minimalistic of looks.

Whether it’s for the commute to the office or a weekend brunch with friends, a scarf will be the perfect addition to any of your fall ensembles, especially as the temperatures really start to cool down. Throw it on for that extra warmth, and if you encounter an unseasonably warm day, throw it in your bag until the cooler evening kicks in. Although this wrapped accessory can seem like too much work, we hope that this guide will help you narrow down your options and make assembly a breeze the next time you consider wearing a scarf.

The Simple Drape
This style of wear is perfect for cool weather. It’s easy to throw on or take off if the sun comes out and warms up your early winter day. To “tie” this knot, simply lay it across the back of your neck so that each end of the scarf hangs evenly.

Get Continental with a Parisian Knot
Frequently seen on the slopes, this knot offers a buffer from the cold and can be tied in an instant. Halve your scarf so that you hold it by the loop in your right hand, with both ends dangling together loosely. Take the loose ends around your neck, bring these across your chest, and thread both ends through the loop in your right hand.

Classic Circle Scarf
In case of an infinity scarf, whether your circle scarf is large or not, you can wear it the classic way by topping it over a blouse or tee. No need to twist or wrap it around, simply let it sit on your shoulders as a regular scarf should. If you have a tube scarf (small circumference), it should resemble a neck warmer. However, if your scarf is longer, it should drape over your chest like a necklace. Tie the ends of your normal rectangular scarf to create a circular illusion.

Hooded Infinity Scarf
One exciting thing about the infinity scarf or wrap is that you can also wear it as a hood. There are several ways of going about this particular style. If the scarf is short in circumference, simply put it over your shoulders as you would for the classic style, then pull the back portion up and over your head like a hood.

Tie a Real Fake Knot.
This style has the benefit of being both warm and classy and giving the impression of an elaborate knot across the front of your neck. Leaving the right end of your scarf longer:

Take the short end of your scarf around the back of your neck.
Loop the long end so that it comes back under itself, keeping the loop loose.
Pull the long end under itself to the other side, while preserving your loop.
Gently take the long end through your loop.
Join the short end with the long by taking it through the loop.
This particular style may require a little more length on your long end than usual.
After you have taken the short end of your scarf through the loop made by the long end, you can lightly tug on each end until the knot is comfortable and both ends are roughly even.

The Over Hand
Give your scarf the Over Hand. This knot is a little fancier and may be perfect for business, a date, or a brisk night on the town. With your scarf around your neck and the right side longer than the left, take the long end across your chest and over the short end, loop the long end around and under the short end, and then pull it through so that it hangs atop the other fabric.

Skirts are everlasting pieces of clothing in your wardrobe. Read on to find ways to dress and accessorise them accordingly.
Historically, skirts are the second oldest piece of clothing. They are comfortable (looking at you, skinny jeans) as well as chic, and you can carry them with the utmost ease. While the same skirt can be styled for different occasions, a plethora of variety is available to us these days.
  • Gored Skirt
This skirt has been used for centuries and suits women of all body types. They are now available in knee-length and buttoned-in-front fashion. They
can be paired with a crisp formal shirt, depending on the occasion. A dark- coloured gored skirt can be paired with an over-sized white or light coloured t-shirt and sneakers, giving you a modern-classy look. In winters, it can be paired with close-fit sweaters and boots.
  • Denim Skirt
Whether long or short, a denim skirt is your friend for every occasion. They go well with a boyfriend-tee tucked in, off-shoulder top, spaghetti strap top, and a patterned formal shirt, and give you the trendiest look. Pairing each of the above with white sneakers and a small pendant will give the perfect 90’s vibe.
  • Wrap-Around Skirt
In South Asia, we have given the wrap- around skirts a traditional twist with Indian patterns. They are the most comfortable skirts to pair with plain
tees on days when you are running late for college. By simply adding silver earrings, the look can be made sophisticated and ethnic. They can be worn as semi-formal outfits, with shirts and even sweaters in winters.
  • Circle Skirt
Short circle skirts are the “in thing” during college fest season and other events, and go with the “you got it, so flaunt it” tag. They match perfectly with bodycon and off-shoulder tops. Pairing the outfit with big loop earrings and heels can make for the ideal date night attire.
Having different types of skirts in your wardrobe can go a long way. Skirts can make any outfit look fashion forward. Happy Skirt-ing!
Look good, have fun experimenting, and most of all, be comfortable.

Bright clothes are no longer cringe-worthy or scary to wear. We guide you on how to ace the brightest hues with uber chic-ness.

There are times when colours haunt you, and what’s more, we all have that one piece of clothing in our wardrobe which was our guilty buy during binge shopping sessions, which has been locked away in the closets, without getting worn, or something which doesn’t make you feel like a confidence machine all throughout.

Here are some tips and tricks to ace your ‘brighties’.

  • Polo T-shirts

Polo t-shirts are a great way to incorporate the daring and rather bright colours which you may have been ever more scared to add in your wardrobes. Also, nothing can go wrong in a polo t-shirt. It is something which looks good on every skin and body type, so don’t shy away in investing in your polos right away.

  • Bright + bright = disaster

If you need to witness a fashion faux pas, it is the delirious combination of a bright top and a silhouette. The best way to go about styling bright colored clothes is to be mellow or have calmer or understated accessories or clothes. A pair of white jeans with a yellow top or a pair of white sneakers with an orange sundress can never go wrong. Be wise to choose the right colour! No one wants to witness a walking highlighter in case you plan on going all bright on.

  • Steer away from neons

While the trend of neons keeps making impromptu comebacks in the fashion scene, stay away from endorsing a yellow or orange neon. Not only is it a killjoy for spending your precious money on it, but it will attract extra attention to your body, and not in the right way.

  • Be ultra-careful in orange decisions

Orange can be the new black yes! While it may not be a complete rockstar for your upper body wear, however, a pair of orange flared trousers can be a perfect new addition to your wardrobe. You can pair it up with tank tops to give a more casual look or to seem more formal, tuck a formal button down and some heels to complete the look. A carrot coloured knee length pleat skirt is also a good option as it gives the perfect vintage vibes. Pair it up with clouts and a braid and walk around the town like a retro bohemian queen. Orange is a dicey colour when it comes to wearing it in the form of tank tops or sleeved tops. One can always look out for graphic tees in this color, as it would have a good combination of colours and help you a great deal to pick out the right trouser or bottom wear for it.

  • Make your winters bright with trench coats

It is a good investment, a warm trench coat and a pair of chic boots. Who said that trench coats are only reserved for the typical winter colours of your blacks and greys or even burgundies. Try out an orange trench coat! Weird! Yes! But something which will look amazing and make you feel like a teen vogue cover girl. A yellow blazer is also an interesting touch-down and equally amusing. It will cheer up your spirits on a gloomy ‘dilli ki thand’ day.

  • Ethnic empire of brightness

One place where you can experiment with bright colours to your heart’s desire is the ethnic wear. Be it a canary yellow kurta or a sunset orange kurti top, it is the one wardrobe essential which not only looks great but is also a must-have. It makes up for something you can wear on a normal college day and also on an auspicious day with sheer andaaz.

So are you ready to be more daring and give your bright friends- yellows and oranges a good chance to up your fashion game?

When it comes to fashion, it would be safe to say that the northeasterners know how to do it right.

The people from the northeastern region of India have a distinct sense of style, which is something that the fashion- conscious students of DU can learn from. We talked to several fashionable northeastern students and they shared
with us the following tips:

1. Wear a tiny necklace with a small pendant (say, a ring) which looks cute and is practical, as opposed to big pieces. Accessorise, but don’t over-accessorise. Usually a silver necklace goes with all skin tones.
2. Dress according to your body. What looks good on a T.V. star may or may not look good on you. Take into consideration your physical aspects like height, body shape, and skin tone.
3. Take inspiration from wherever you can, but adapt it to suit yourself (in the case of the Northeastern people, South Asian dramas being the inspiration).
4. The price of an outfit doesn’t guarantee quality. You can get outfits for a few hundred rupees, provided you look in the right nooks and crannies. They suggest places like Sarojini Nagar where you can bargain to your heart’s content or H&M which conducts sales every now and then.
5. Choose comfort over everything else. A compliment lasts seconds, but you’ll be wearing what you are donning for the whole day. You won’t look good if you don’t feel good.
6. Finally, experimenting with your wardrobe is the key. Girls can switch between skinny jeans with crop tops and pleated skirts with collared shirts, while boys can switch between khakis with shirts and shorts with vests.

The people from places like Mizoram and Nagaland have access to thrift shops from where they can get a tee for as little as INR 10! That makes that an outfit in less than INR 50. Unfortunately, there is little scope for that happening in Delhi. But that doesn’t mean that you can’t let your inner northeastern fashionista come to the fore. Look good, have fun experimenting, and most of all, be comfortable.

Denim rules the fashion world and the sheer varieties make it accessible and comfortable for all body types.

Work pants made of denim were the first form of jeans, worn by miners as early as the 17th century. The earliest use of denim refers to a serge material from Nimes, France. This explains how denim got its name: serge de Nimes, which later evolved to “de Nim” as it was a tradition to name fabrics after the place of origin. Today, jeans cut out of denim materials are an essential in every wardrobe. They come in so many different varieties, and sizes that it is surprising. Here’s a basic guide to the major types of jeans that exist, and are trending in the market at present.

  • Skinny jeans

This is the most popular and most worn denim. As the name suggests, the fit and length generally need to be close to perfect. The jeans come in low, mid, and high-rise waist cuts, all of which are usually stretchable. Because of their body-hugging form, one can really play with layers and add cool, funky, and even slouchy coats, scarves, oversized boots to them, their form-fitting nature mellows down the layers creating an on-point outfit. Pair them up with a cool belt. Body-hugging tops or jeans that gather at ankles are an absolute no.

  • Boot cut

This is an extremely versatile piece of denim and can be fashioned in any way from formal occasions to late night parties, these jeans if styled properly can be your best friends. This style is tighter on top and looser on the bottom, with a slight flare. For a bohemian look, pair it with tops, v- ecks, round necks, that have a flowy material like linen, silk, cotton. To get that classic 70s look pair it with high heeled boots. Metallic chunky heels are ideal if one is going for a party look. Just ensure the top hits just below your waist to balance out the bootcut of the jeans.

  • Flared jeans

A 90s  fashion statement, these jeans are back again and are really trending. They fall somewhere in between boot cut and bell bottom style trousers. They look best on tall and curvy women, those who are pear-shaped, and round body types.  Although it is recommended not to wear them if you are short but cropped flare jeans can be a great option. Pair your flares with a fitted, crop top for the perfect retro look. However, if you want to portray yourself as more contemporary, pair them with looser and longer tops.

  • Boyfriend jeans

As the name suggests, boyfriend jeans literally look like they have been borrowed from your man. They are extremely versatile and are literally everywhere from runways to the lazy airport look because the whole model-off-duty vibe never fails to appeal. These give you a great fit near your waist and hip area and broaden a little bit as they move down. Their distressed version seems to be selling like hotcakes literally everywhere. Opt for a super relaxed look by pairing it with solids, round necks, minimum accessories and contrast it with a great pair of high heels.

  • Jeggings

Jeggings are basically leggings composed of denim. They are incredibly body-hugging and have replaced the standard buttons with an elastic band. In case you are conscious about your legs, choose darker colours as they give a slimmer appearance, and go for tops and layers that are below the hip. Pair them with cropped sweatshirts or hoodies for an effortless, sporty yet stylish look. Jeggings always draw attention to your lower half so make sure you have some awesome shoes to flatter your attire.

Fashion is dynamically subjective. Here are a few 90’s inspired outfits that will make a glamourous kick-start to your college.

The Denim Effect

One of the most iconic clothing revolutions and a must have in every closet, are denims. A nice pair of boyfriend jeans or wide trousers adds a lot of character to your outfit with little effort. Try incorporating turtle neck tops or graphic vintage t-shirts with cat-eye sunglasses to up your game along with denim skirts and jackets.

A light denim jacket ripped jeans, denim shorts, or cargo pants, maybe even accessorised with a denim wrist band for guys ensures comfort with style. The 90’s are famed for experimental fluorescents, neon, and stripes. With bold messages speaking your presence, or the classic Polos, you can never go wrong!

auburn image 2

Plaids

A pair of plaid of leggings over a solid top, or a flannel shirt over an LBD, with easy going sneakers perk up your outfit and provide the perfect comfort. A plaid shirt over a simple basic white tee is the perfect way to spice up an outfit for any guy. Or if you’re going for a monochrome outfit, be bold with your accessories and add a plaid patterned snapback.

Accessorise

If there is anything to be ever more grateful for are the exquisite style of sunglasses and boho rings from the 90’s which make your outfit perfect.

Try to incorporate oval sunnies or cat-eye frames or chunky hoops into your outfits.

To breathe chill in this heat, go for white sneakers. The other way around, go for solid combat boots.

Aviators: If Tom Cruise sets impossible missions to follow, this is not one. Add a chic pair of aviators in your outfits and ace your looks.

Slip dresses, pinafores and dungarees

Feeling a bit plain wearing simple jeans and a top? Revamp it. A black slip dress along with chunky hoops and a pair of comfortable flats, or a pinafore give the perfect boho-chic look to float through the day.

Dungarees add the carefree, effortless look on your outfits and make you look like a million bucks.

So roll that pant leg up and bridle yourself to beat this heat with comfort and glamor. Do not presume awkwardness, the best thing you have to wear is your confidence.

One of the many things that make the University of Delhi happening and enchanting is the performing arts societies and their marvelous annual productions. In the past few months, we saw cut-throat competition across several Delhi University colleges. The hours and hours of practice and hard work were put to test this fest season and from amongst the pool of massive talent, some groups emerged brighter than the others. We attempt to select the best society of the lot.

Methodology
The best college society in each category was selected by creating a tally of the top 3 positions that could be won at various events. The society that secured the 1st position was awarded 3 points, the society that secured the 2nd position was awarded 2 points, and finally, the society securing the 3rd position was awarded 1 point.
Nineteen college fests were referred to while evaluating the top societies tally this fest season. They were: SGGSCC, Maitreyi College, Hindu College, Lady Irwin College, Kamala Nehru College, Keshav Mahavidyalaya, Bhim Rao Ambedkar College, Sri Aurobindo College (Morning as well as Evening), Shyama Prasad Mukherji College, Kalindi College, Bharati College, Shivaji College, Ramanujan College, Lakshmibai College, Shaheed Rajguru College of Applied Sciences for Women, Dyal Singh College, Satyawati College, and Daulat Ram College.  Colleges that were not affiliated to DU were not included in the tally.

The Top Three

At the top position is I VOGUE, the fashion society of Sri Guru Gobind Singh College of Commerce with a total of 18 points. Poise of the Institute of Home Economics is at the second spot. Galore of Maitreyi College are at the third spot. Nakshatra of Hindu College surprisingly established itself as a strong competition and came fourth with 12 points.

Points Tally: Fashion

The Winning Society at a glance

I VOGUE has established itself as the top fashion society for a long time now. With their dark-colored structured clothes, clear messaging, and awe-inspiring props and surprise elements, they have remained the favorite of both the crowd and the critics. Speaking about this year’s annual production, Chayan Jain, the President of the winning society, said, “This year we dedicated our performance to a call for humanity. We wanted to shed light on the irrelevant differences that we as a society are a constant prey to; namely gender differences, caste discrimination, and the religious segmentation. The theme this year was named “A Walk Towards Humanity” was entirely a team effort without any outside help. Be it the choreography, designing, modeling, hairstyling, or conceptual ideas, we have all done this ourselves. We owe our success to each and every member of the society who did every task with full dedication. It warms our hearts to see all our hard work paying off it.”

“Florals? For spring? Groundbreaking. “quipped Miranda Preistly in The Devil Wears Prada. The dilemma of spring fashion continues to be complex as it was almost a decade ago when the film originally came out. To expand one’s horizons in terms of how they dress during spring is a challenge in and of itself especially since spring fashion has largely been contained to florals and pastels. Expand your horizons in terms of what Spring Fashion means for you in 2018 by trying out these eclectic style tricks

  • Wear Plaid – Plaid has made significant waves in 2018. From Blake Lively to Chiara Ferragni, everybody has been sporting the fabric this season. What makes the prospect of wearing plaid particularly exciting is how its simplicity allows one to pair it with the loudest and outrageous accessories and tops. A pair of mustard or grey plaid trousers paired with a crop top or a tied up shirt and comfortable flats would make a great outfit, ideal for a casual day out.
  • Wear a knotted up denim shirt – A denim shirt, knotted up at the bottom makes the perfect spring outfit. The denim shirt, thrown over a crop top or dress is a great way to deal with the unpredictable weather than spring can, at times offer. Since denim lends an element of casualness to an outfit, denim shirts are an even more versatile option. You can throw it over a black body-con dress during the day and take off the denim shirt during the evening; thus smoothly transitioning from day to night without having to change your outfit.
  • Wear Bright Colours- For ages Spring Fashion has been restrained to pastels. Bright colours are often relegated to a less relevant role in spring. This spring, stand out by wearing bright and electric colours that reflect your personality and make a loud statement. Be expressive with colours and do not be afraid to bring out the hot pinks and peacock blues, just make sure you tone down your accessories so that your outfit does not look excessively busy.
  • Experiment with Crochet and Lace – spring is the perfect time to play around with fabrics since it is neither unbearably cold nor excruciatingly hot. It gives one the liberty to wear the liberty to wear clothes that may not be tolerably worn, especially in the Indian summers. Play around with fabrics like crochet, which might be heavier or chunkier but are effortlessly elegant. Pair a lace dress with minimalistic jewelry and simple shoes and look graceful without seeming to try too hard.

Spring, with its element of natural re-invigoration, is the ideal time to switch up your style. Just as your natural surroundings begin to bloom and grow, your study and personal aesthetic should also be infused with new life. Experiment and take chances, religiously following only one rule, that there are no rules to follow!
