Zenith MUN 2017: Miranda House, University of Delhi

March 4, 2017 - March 5, 2017

Model United Nations is an educational simulation in which participants gain insight into the workings of the United Nations and the dynamics of international relations by assuming the roles of UN representatives and members of other international bodies and national cabinets. Such an event attracts participants from both the school level and the collegiate level.

Zenith Model United Nations is the annual MUN hosted by Miranda House, University of Delhi. Zenith MUN has come a long way in a short span of time. Since its inception in 2012, it has served as a platform of debating and brainstorming. With an average participation of over 200 students from across the length and breadth of the country, ZMUN has grown in substantially different ways, and this year too, they hope to redefine how Model UN is conducted. Zenith MUN is one of the biggest celebrations of the power of expression. This annual conference offers delegates the chance to debate pressing global issues, challenge them to take on new perspectives, and build strong networks—enabling them to become the world leaders of tomorrow.

The 6th edition of the conference will be held on 4 and 5 March, 2017. The third round of applications is now open. The deadline for submission is February 7, 2017.This is also the final round of International Press applications, with forms for both Journalists and Photographers. Zenith #MUN 2017 aspires to provide a platform where the Fourth Estate functions autonomously and creatively to produce ‘The Scintillator’, the official daily newsletter of the Conference.

Information about the conference, including registration procedures, can be found on their website: www.zenithmun.net

The conference will see the simulation of 5 committees along with the International Press. These committee simulations are aimed at deliberating upon pertinent issues, and will be chaired by five extremely experienced and competent Executive Boards:

UN Commission on the Status of Women

UNCSW is the flagship committee which has been a part of ZMUN since its very inception.

Agenda: Discussing gender dysphoria with special emphasis on sex reassignment surgeries.

UN Security Council

UNSC takes lead in deliberating on matters of international security and peace. It never fails to attract young diplomats.

Agenda: Rethinking the R2P approach in the African Continent with special reference to the renewed UN-AU Partnership and the AU-ECOWAS.

Review Meet of the UN Convention on Laws of the Sea

Review Meet of UNCLOS is a fresh and thoroughly intriguing, hitherto unexplored in the Delhi MUN circuit.

Agenda: Sustainable use of marine biological diversity with special emphasis on jurisdiction.

Indo-China Bilateral Meet

This fourth committee simulated at the ZMUN’17 tells the tale of strained relations and mutual co-existence of two emerging global powers.

Agenda: Strengthening bilateral relations between India and China with special emphasis on recent developments in South China Sea and Nuclear suppliers group.

All-India Political Parties Meet

This committee is an endeavour to emulate political realities by bringing to light the various layers of policies and laws that exist in present day India.

Agenda: Deliberation on sedition laws in the country.

With their motto, “A mighty flame followeth a tiny spark,” the Secretariat of the 2017 edition hopes to make the conference the most successful one yet.
