Vayam started off as the theatre society of Shivaji College, the University of Delhi in 2006, when a handful of like-minded and creative students decided to form a dramatics society in their college. The society that was formed on the ideals of Unity, Togetherness and Creativity grew bigger and better by each passing year. Gradually, Vayam started making a mark on the DU Theatre Circuit by winning many laurels and praises. Today, the organization has ventured into the era of performing arts and boasts of a strong foothold in Mumbai and Delhi with several professional performances under its credit.
With a total of 26 Proscenium and street plays based on various social issues, that have won many accolades on competitive and non-competitive platforms across India including National School of Drama, National Centre for Performing Arts, Prithvi Theatre, Jana Natya Manch, Kamani, Sirifort, India Habitat Center, Shri Ram Centre, Sahitya Kala Parishad, FICCI Auditorium, Hindi Sahitya Academy (Indore), IIT-Delhi, IIT-Bombay, IIT-Kanpur, IIM-Ahmedabad, and the like; Vayam is constantly growing. Our society comprises a group of hardworking, talented and driven individuals consisting of actors, directors, scriptwriters, technicians and working professionals.
Vayam-the Performing arts society begins with its 4th edition of ‘Taaleem’ this January. Taaleem is a platform for all theatre aspirants who want to live their passion for theatre. Trained by professionals, they make the students feel like home. Vayam is a family and that is reflected in their workshop. Taaleem‘s curriculum is specifically and scientifically designed by trained professionals and has 3 major hierarchies – beginner, middle and advance. It’s more along the lines of Modern Gurukul. They believe in skills and talent but the values are the backbone of their system and process.
Taaleem is a theatre course which is conducted with the aim to develop the overall personality of participants and inculcate a variety of theatre skills including acting, speech, visualization, expressions etc. in a fun-filled manner. Each participant spends 3 hours at the workshop every day. The scope of the course includes acting and mime, personality development, leadership and teamwork and the list goes on. At the end of the workshop, the students will be will be given certificates as well as be preparing for their maiden theatre production. With skills and talent brimming, Taaleem gave the world of theatre its major creations ‘Platform No. 8’ and ‘Malgudi Ke Gaon Se’, both banging houseful shows. The workshop starts on 7th January 2018 and this time the batches are divided into weekends and weekdays as per the comfort of the students.
Vayam has always aimed at perfection, excellence, and discipline and continues to do so. Students are under the guidance of experts who are less of a coach and more of a friend. The beauty of theatre is best enjoyed when it is shared with others who are equally comfortable in their own skin as you are and Taaleem provides a platform to just that.
