Sahityam: A Rendezvous of Words

Hosted by the JGU Book Club, Sahityam is O.P. Jindal Global University’s first Literary Fest. It will be a three-day long festival from 1st September 2017 to 3rd September 2017, with students from institutions all over Delhi and NCR participating in it. With numerous literary competitions, author’s talks (we’ll tell you which ones), band performances, stand-up comedy (by The Canvas Club) and much more, this is a festival you absolutely cannot miss! With cash prizes up to one lakh, gift hampers and fun-filled, challenging events; we await your participation in this literary extravaganza.

The events being held are the following-

 

DAY 1

 

  1. IMPROMPTU POETRY CONTEST:

The participant will be given an assorted choice of topics out of which he/she has to choose one and write a piece of poetry on the same. It is one of those unique platforms where you don’t just get to pour your feelings on a piece of paper, but also a chance to express it verbally. Participants will be provided a time of one to two minutes, post which they need to go and stage their piece of poetry.

  1. SHIP WRECK:

The ship is sinking, and the Captain has only one Life-Jacket left. You are on the ship with other famous celebrities/ fictional characters/ hypothetical characters. Sink into the given character and try to escape from the sinking ship by using your impressive, convincing skills and prove that you deserve the only Life-jacket. Make yourself appear prominent and better than any other person on board to win the Life jacket and eventually win the event.

  1. MONOLOGUE:

Why need a group when you can utilise a whole piece of stage for yourself? In theatre, a monologue is a dialogue drama presented by a single character, most often to express their mental thoughts aloud, though sometimes also to directly address another character or the audience.

  1. TABOO:

One of the most enjoying game by people of all ages, taboo is dumb charades with a twist. Speak all you want to explain your word, but beware of those restricted words that might score you negative points.

 

  1. TURN COAT DEBATE:

Always had the problem of judging the light and dark sides of something? Always dealt with the issue of debating within your mind? Then this is just your game! Turncoat is a form of debate where the speaker literally debates against oneself. Participants start by taking a stance on the topic and switch sides after a specific duration of time.

DAY 2

 

  1. POETRY WRITING:

Poetry is emotion put into measure. The emotion must come by nature, but the measure can be acquired by art. If you are a poet then here is your chance to show off those skills.

  1. CREATIVE WRITING:

The classic art of writing is where creativity practically started off. The creative writing competition is going to consign the opportunity to go outside the bounds of mainstream academic writing and dive into the world of your dreams.

  1. MIME:

A wordless form of entertainment in which movements and gestures are used to communicate. The participant will be given the stage for a specified amount time mime out an enactment on women empowerment or the environment.

 

  1. COMIC STRIP:

Any creative mind gets bored of drawing the plain old scenery and landscapes. Creating a comic strip is the art of creating a sequence of drawings in order to tell an amusing story, typically like the ones in newspapers and magazines. It is time to bring out the artist in you.

DAY 3

 

  1. DECLAMATION:

An orator dominates those who hear him, convinces their reason, controls their judgment, compels their action. For the time being, he is master. For this event orchestrate your very own speech, masterfully compelling your audience to hang onto every word you say.

  1. NUKKAD NATIKA:

Brought to you right from the streets, Nukkad Natika is a form of theatrical performance and presentation in outdoor public spaces without any specific paid audience. The participants are supposed to form groups of five to eight people and present an act to spread awareness about contemporary social issues.

  1. BOOKS TRIVIA QUIZ:

If reading is your hobby and quizzing your passion, this is for you. Participate in

the book trivia quiz and show off your skills.

 

  1. DEBATE:

The modernized conventional debating is what is enjoyed by people throughout the world. It’s better to debate and settle the issue instead of settling the issue and debating it. Hence debating!

  1. HAM:

This is like an extempore with a twist. Speak your heart out on a given topic but don’t forget to abide by the twelve conditions (we’ll tell you what they are), and violating them will score you negative points.
