Montage, the Film Society of Kirori Mal College, invites you to its annual film festival, Mise-en-Scène on 6th and 7th March, 2017!
Mise-en-Scène’17 will be “A Tribute to Om Puri and Abbas Kiarostami”. These two venerable and valuable contributors to world cinema have left a long-lasting legacy that Montage seeks to memorialise by screening some of their movies that have the largest imprint to modern culture.
Monday, 6th March, will see the screening of two Om Puri films, the short film ‘Sadagati’ (directed by Satyajit Ray) and the classic comedy ‘Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro’ (directed by Kundan Shah). These will be accompanied by a lecture by prominent speaker Dr. Smita Banerjee, Ph.D in Indian Cinema on the topic, “Om Puri in New Wave Indian Cinema”, and Jai Arjun Singh, author of the bestselling novel on the latter film, ‘Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro: Seriously Funny Since 1983′.
Tuesday, 7th March, shall start off with Cinebuzz: The Film Quiz, and the Cartoon Making Competition in the morning, for witty minds and nimble hands of artists to exhibit their talents. The second day shall showcase the wealth of Iranian cinema. ‘Taste of Cherry’, the much celebrated work of director Abbas Kiarostami is a masterclass of minimalist film making. It shall be followed by the recently adjudged “Best Foreign Language Film” at the Academy Awards, ‘The Salesman’, directed by Asghar Farhadi.
So come join us in this retrospective about two passed greats of world cinema as we celebrate their work. We shall see you over two fun filled days for cinephiles and casual moviegoers alike!”
