Sri Venkateswara College, popularly known as Venky is one of the premiere institutions in the University. It has etched a name for itself amongst the other “big names� of DU since its inception in 1961 by churning out brilliant results year after year. 

Location 

The college is located on the Benito Juarez Road. It shares its wall with South Campus. It’s very close to both the ring roads, thus allowing for easy transportation. It is very close to the Dhaula Kuan bus stop. 

How to get there 

It’s easy to reach Venky from most parts of the city, though travelers from East Delhi have a hard time. Given its prime location, the college is well-connected by several major bus routes. Both 724 and 442 end at Nehru Place and pass via Venky. Major stops include South Ex, AIIMS, RK Puram, etc. 740 too stops right next to Venky. It connects Patparganj to Dhaula Kuan. This bus passes via Mandi house and ITO, which are very close to CP.

Popular Courses

Venkateswara College is better known for its science courses like Biochemistry, Botany, Chemistry and Zoology; although courses like English and Economics have also upped their standards substantially in the recent past.

Admission Procedure 

General Category

The admission procedure is quite uncomplicated. It’s completely based on the student’s marks in his/her school final examinations. Thus, all that one is supposed to do is fill the common form and mark the college on it; or drop the specific college form into the drop box at the institution.

ECA and Sports Category

Students seeking admission through these categories have to fill in separate forms, specific to these categories. Sub categories within ECA include music, dance, photography, debating, creative writing, quizzing, dramatics, etc. The list of sports that Venky has trials for consist of Athletics, Volley Ball, Golf, Table Tennis, Yoga, Cricket, Tennis, Shooting, Basketball, Swimming, etc. The complete list is available with the forms; which must be submitted with copies of original certificates supporting achievements in these areas and other documents that may be asked for. 
 

Infrastructure 

Venkateswara College announced in the beginning of last year that it will soon have an auditorium as well as a hostel. However, due to various reasons it will take longer than expected for these to materialize. Students of the college report that the Hostel is more or less done, but a lot more needs to be done before the auditorium is completed. A new tutorial block is also in the process of being constructed. Venkateswara College is one of the few colleges in DU with a cricket field and a clay-court for tennis.  

Accommodation

Until last year there was no hostel for students of the college. Things should change this year. This hostel is to have 75 berths for both men and women. But even in its absence, students can find easy accommodation around college in the bustling albeit cluttered Satya Niketan Area. 

Add on Courses 

Two add-on courses were recently introduced: One is a Certificate Course in Mass Communication and Personality Development conducted by the School of Convergence and the other is a short term course in Bio-Informatics and Computational Biology.Â
