Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) is the Mecca for those aspiring to pursue undergraduate studies in Commerce and Economics. Established in 1926 by Sir Shri Ram, the erstwhile Commercial College was renamed in 1951 as Shri Ram College of Commerce. If the college ratings of India Today are to be believed, SRCC has consistently secured the top slot in the field of Commerce education for the 11th year running; which achieves in sending out an unequivocal message about its faculty, infrastructure, atmosphere, alumni etc.
Location
Located in Maurice Nagar in the North Campus of Delhi University, SRCC is easy to reach. The Vishwavidyalaya Metro Station of the Yellow Line is a mere Rs.10 cycle-rickshaw ride away from College, while auto-rickshaws are parked near the college at most hours. Bus routes also make for a comfortable alternative to reach College. Those travelling from South Delhi generally take the much famed bus # 100 from Regal Cinema, while students coming from places like Noida or Dwarka use the services of bus numbers GL-32 and 180 respectively, in combination with #100 (“the bus�). Popular Courses
The college offers just two courses at the undergraduate level- B.Com and B.A. Economics, both being three year undergraduate honours programmes. For information sake, SRCC also offers postgraduates courses like M.Com, M.A. Economics and Global Business Operations (GBO).
Though there is no denying the fact that SRCC is more popular for its undergraduate course in Commerce, the Economics department too has proved its mettle by churning out several university rank-holders over the years.
Admission Process
General Category
Students can apply to SRCC’s undergraduate courses either by filling up the University OMR sheets or through the individual admission form of the college. There are 325 seats for B.Com and 80 seats for B.A. Economics applicants. Students whose ‘best of four’ (BFS) marks scored in the CBSE/ISC Class 12 examinations (or an equivalent score in the Pre-University examination) meet the cut-off declared by the college are granted admission to SRCC. However, the cut-off varies from student to student depending on the stream (Science/Commerce/Humanities) which he/she had pursued after Class 10.
Sports Category
SRCC does not admit students under the ECA category. However, 20 admissions are made (both boys and girls) on the basis of sports achievements at the school level and the actual performance at the field-trials of football, swimming, athletics and cricket (for inquiry about inclusion of more sports, kindly check the college website www.srcc.edu) in the college. Applicants have to submit self-attested copies of relevant certificates and newspaper clippings along with an application, apart from the regular preliminary application form. Subsequently, field-trial dates are enlisted on the college notice board.
Infrastructure
Spread over 16 acres of land, SRCC has 25 lecture rooms, tutorial blocks and an enviable parking space. The college building has been declared as a ‘Heritage Building’ and massive renovation and up gradation activities are underway in the college. The college boasts of a fully-automated library consisting of 70,000 volumes and growing. The SRCC Computer Centre with its latest software and hardware equipments is one of the best in the University, while the tutorial block is Wi-Fi enabled. A seminar room, auditorium, bank (SBI), swimming pool, cricket ground, shooting gallery, tennis and basketball courts are among some of the other components of the college’s infrastructure.
Out-of-Station Students
SRCC provides on-campus accommodation for 140 male students and 53 female students. An expansion of the girls’ hostel is in the pipeline. Along with these, there are ample accommodation options available in the nearby areas of Hudson Lines, Kamlanagar, Roopnagar, Civil Lines etc.
