Kalindi College inaugurates multi media studio for Journalism department

Prof. Dinesh Singh, Vice Chancellor, University of Delhi inaugurated the Media Laboratory at Kalindi College on the 31st of July.

The media laboratory for the journalism department incorporates a TV Studio, Audio Studio and a PCR. Also the lab is equipped with professional accessories and equipments including 3 Handheld HDV Camcorders, a Canon DSLR, various mikes, flood lights and an Editing System. The studio also broadcasted, in the campus, its first live interview (of 10 minute duration) with the guests.

Along with the media lab, the college also inaugurated a Chemistry laboratory and a Special Cyber Café for teachers. At the event, VC Dinesh Singh also exchanged views on the proposal and contemplation of the Four Years Undergraduate Program.

Prof. Dinesh announced, “We are in conversation with the Ministry of Small and Medium Enterprises to help aid the students in the ambitious entrepreneurship projects which they aim to take up after graduation”, while introducing the idea of the Incubation centre to the students. Mr. Ved Prakash Sharma, the Chairman of the Governing Body of Kalindi College and Prof. B.P. Sahu were also a part of the the inaugural ceremony.

“Students of the University will be entitled to a special lease in attendance and bonus marks in academics for a year round dedicated performance in NCC”, informed Prof. Dinesh Singh. A grant of Rs. 5, 00,000 has been given to the college by the University for the augmentation of infrastructural facilities. “The newly admitted students of first year will all be provided a laptop each by September”, he added. This initiative has been taken to make the system more technology sound.

Inspiring the students to participate in the Gyanodyaya Express Programme, Vice Chancellor notified that 100 students from Great Britain will be joining the programme this September in Punjab.

Arunita Tiwari, Student of Kalindi College said “We had an interactive session with Sir Dinesh Singh, he threw light on the Gyanodaya Programme and the Incubation Centre. Predominantly, the programme was a success.”

Certificate course on Gender and Society by Delhi University

Women’s Studies and Development Centre, University of Delhi is offering a PG level certificate course in “Gender and Society”. This course has a three month duration starting from August 2013 to October 2013.

The Eligibility criteria set up by them is having at least 50% marks in B.A., B.Sc. or B.Com but the admission will be taken on the basis of Interviews of candidates registering for the course.

The registration fee is an amount of Rs.1500. While the last date for submitting of applications is 9^th August, 2013, the tentative date decided for interviewing the candidates is 13^th August, 2013. The candidates will have a last chance to get admission in the course by 16^th August, 2013.

The Course consists of broadly 5 units. The first unit is named “Theoretical Challenges” and consists of challenges faced in the Indian Society in a theoretical manner. The second unit is named “Women in Indian Society” and as the name suggest, it consists of a detailed explanation of the condition of women in the Indian Society. The third unit is “Women in Cultural and Literary Paradigms” and this unit deals with Models of women who have been known in Cultural and Literary aspects of the Society. The fourth unit is “Gender and Social Change” and talks about the various changes in various aspects of the society as well as the changes in respect to gender. The fifth and last unit consists of Project work.

All interested candidates are required to fill in the application form, but only in the hard copy along with duly attested Mark Sheets of graduation and other testimonials. The application forms are available at the Delhi University website as well as the Women’s Studies and Development Centre, Academic Research Centre, Opposite Khalsa College. DU Students cycle from Kanyakumari to Islamabad in quest for peace

A group of Delhi University students under the name “Delhi University Students For Peace” are cycling from Kanyakumari to Islamabad in a bid to appeal for peaceful relations between India and Pakistan.

They approached the mission with the thought that – “In the absence of mutual trust and friendly relations, India and Pakistan spend huge amounts for defence purposes which could otherwise be used in the fight against poverty and hunger. If all or even a portion of that amount was spent on social welfare, would not the cause of development be served better? We could not after all substitute weapons for food or medicines or education.”

To give direction to their agenda 12 of them embarked their cycling journey from Kanyakumari. Their journey was formally inaugurated by VS Achuthanadam, former CM of Kerela. They have gathered support from many eminent and revered personalities as Gujarat CM Narendra Modi, Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah, Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot, Haryana CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda, former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda, former Supreme Court Justice and Karnataka Lokayukta Santosh Hegde, various MPs and MLAs on their Facebook page.

The march is expected to take 90 days from Kanyakumari to reach Islamabad i.e. on 31^st august 2013. You can even trace their progress on Google maps. The collected signatures will be submitted to the Governments of India and Pakistan. They have already held interactions and mass signature campaigns at various universities, colleges and schools along the way, and collected the signatures of all concerned citizens who have expressed their support for our cause. The route of their journey can also be traced via Google Maps.

After leaving Delhi recently, the group is proceeding via Baghpat to Chandigarh and from there to Amritsar and the Wagah border before crossing into Lahore on the way to Islamabad. They expect to reach Wagah border on the 14th of August to jointly celebrate the Independence day of India and Pakistan.

The group believes that friendly relations between India and Pakistan are just the first step for a lasting solution to the problems of our subcontinent. After this cycle march to Islamabad they also propose to go to Dhaka via Kathmandu during the winter with the same purpose.
