Marking the beginning to this year’s season is Kamala Nehru College’s annual fest Ullas 2011-2012. The two day fest, to be held on 1st and 2nd February just promises to be the perfect start to the much awaited fest season.
Day 1 kicks off with various competitions like Nupur (Indian Dance), Crossfire (English Debate), Adagio (Choreography) amongst several others. Not a part of any society? And all these competitions bore you? Don’t worry, there is enough in store for you too! Caricature, Tattoo Making, T-shirt Making, Poster Making and Card Making might just be the right events for you to give that hidden creative side within you a chance. You cannot afford to miss Glitz- one of the most sought-after events of the fest- a contest by the fashion society.
Ask Apranta Somayaji, Proctor, KNC what one should expect from the event, she says, “One of the main attractions of Day 1 is ‘Battle of Bands’ a competition for bands among the various colleges of DU and other universities with participation from some of the very well known Delhi bands like ‘The Doppler Effect’, ‘Claustrophobic Expansion’ and ‘Jokes Apart’ “.
Adds Surabhi, Vice President, KNC Student’s Union, “Earlier we use to have DJ Night but to break the monotony we came up with this idea.” Day 2 of the fest is again packed with events and competitions ranging from Rhythm ‘n’ Blues (Western Music), Inquizzitive (Quiz), Ol’ That Jazz (Western Dance) and many more! Clearly however the biggest and the most awaited of the day and fest altogether will be the Celebrity Show by Bombay Rockers! So get ready to groove on ‘Ari Ari;, “Rock the Party” and other popular numbers. Selling of the passes for the same will begin outside the college gate from 9:30am on the days of the fest for as cheap as 100 rs.
Too affordable for a Bombay Rockers concert right? And yeah, enough stalls for accessories, food, games to make your wallets a little less heavy when you leave. The theme for the event this year is ‘Delhi Celebrating 100 Years’ and the decoration is going to be based on the same. “Our Fine Arts Society, ‘Luminiso’ has done a fabulous job by painting the college walls to encourage the spirit and the love for the city which every delhiite carries within themselves”, says Surabhi
